My symptoms started nearly a week ago. It started simply with just lower back pain for the first 3 or 4 days. But, now, for the past 3 nights I have awoken around 5am (around the same time every night, strangely) with the pain so extreme that it makes me vomit. Last night, it was so painful, I vomitted for an hour straight and could not fall back asleep. I started researching today to figure out some possible answers to this dilemma, and I ran across this forum. My symptoms include lower back pain and lower abdominal pain (most severe on the right side, underneath by ribs). The only diagnosis that I've found, researching the net, with similiar symptoms of mine was Appendicitis. Does anyone think that this is a possibilty for the pain?
I believe that if I awake again tonight with the severe pain and vomitting, then I will go to the emergency room and get some tests ran. I've read all the comments on this forum and I was wondering if anyone ever received a diagnosis for their symptoms? It is strange that most of us are experiencing the same symptoms. Also, I read where one lady seemed to experience the EXACT same thing I did, awakening at 5am every morning with the extreme pain. That is odd that we both experience the pain worse around that time and are awoken by it. There must be SOMETHING that is causing this. & There must be some MD out there that could help us figure out what the problem is. If something isn't done, I know there is no way in HELL I can live with such severe pain. It affects me throughout the day, both in the abdomen and back, but on a scale from 1-10 it is only around a 6 or 7 throughout the day. But, when I am awoken in the morning at 5am with the pain, it is a complete 10. I rarely vomit (& haven't in nearly three years until recently) and have never experienced vommitting due to extreme pain until now. I have never experienced this severe of pain either until these "morning episodes" started to occur a few days ago. I'm 19 years young so I hope this is nothing serious, I have a long life ahead of me and I cannot bare this pain forever. Does anyone have any answers out there?

I can relate to these symtoms as well, however, I have a ball-like texture on my lower back, that is all that has been hurting, along with abdominal cramping.
One thing you might consider is interstitial cystitis.
The symptoms are just like those of a bladder infection but show no sign on testing. The diagnosis can be confirmed with a painless, non-anaesthetised procedure by a urologist. I always have to report the condition when I give a urine sample because I persistenly have blood in the urine. There are medications you can take, but I have discovered I can treat the symptoms (which have ranged from completely incapacitating to mildly crampy with back pain) by monitoring the foods I eat. For example, chocolate, especially with a high cocoa content, sets me off terribly. Too many strawberries, alcohol and some raw cheeses, like blue, will do it too. Over the years I've learned to avoid these foods or take them in moderation (and knowing I'll pay for it later!). Sounds like a real downer but I'd much rather exchange chocolate, wine and good cheese for pain-free living without medication any day! Hope this helps - this condition is more common in women, underdiagnosed and frequently hereditary - your mother and daughters may benefit from your research too. Best of luck.

I am a 43 year old woman who has suffered from a host of complaints for most of my life. I have been diagnosed with IBS, Chlamydia, PID, Crohns Disease, Bladder problems, Adhesions, Endometriosis, Hiatus Hernia etc etc. My medical file is like War & Peace!
Most of them however have been disproved as they have all been diagnosed seperatley and not a syptoms of one particular problem. Last year I had a sub total hysterectomy & had my ovaries also removed. I had suffered very badly from adehsions & Endomitriosis.
Symptoms of the above included low constant abdomial pain, like contractions coupled with dull, throbbing pain and the feeling like I have internal bruising. I had seen the pictures of the inside of my body, with the adhesions and it had stuck most of the surrounding organs together like glue.
One of the worst symptoms is what I call my 'Jelly' back. My lower back becomes excrutialingly painful, weak and totally useless. It feels like the nerves are being pinched and it sends out jolts of pain to the tops of my legs and bum. Some days I could'nt walk and pain killers do not touch it!
Suffice to say, 1 year from having the Hysterectomy, I am sitting in work, in pain again and have been for 2 weeks. The symptoms are the same (as I know them inside out) and I am starting to get that depressed feeling again.
I am going to go to my GP, as you should do if back pain lasts more than 72 hours, but I am not hopeful!
It seems that we all suffer from very similar symptoms, but there seems to be such a lack of understanding by the Medical authorites. When is someone going to realise that our pain is real and has such a massive effect on our work, home and sex lives. The pain I feel is real and total debilitating and I have lost many days of work and many days of fun with my family due to this condition.
How many illnesses do I have to be diagnosed with before someone puts the pieces of the puzzle together & make a proper diagnosis. All we want is treatment and to be pain free, without wasting our GP's time with constant appoinments & tests.
One day i hope that we will be heard and things will change for the better!

I wish there was a doctor reading these posts. Ok, I've been experiencing the same symptoms as all of you. Five years ago, I had labroscopic surgery to remove any evident endometriosis. Two WEEKS ago, I had a hysterecomy. Guess what? Symptoms are still present. I am SO frustrated. Did I do this surgery for nothing? Feels like a bladder infection, but results are negative. Back pain is pulsating and constant. What the hell?
I've recently started getting lower back pains & cramps. I thought it might be because I'll be starting on my period soon, but I haven't... and it's been going on for almost a week now. I've also noticed that my breast have gotten more sensitive and firm... I'm going to take a pregnancy test and see if that's the case, but I have a feeling it's not that and that it's something quite serious. This sucks, cause I'd randomly wake up in the middle of the night because of this and I can't go back to sleep. -_- I've read nearly everyone's post here, and it somewhat scares me what I could possibly have.
to everyone on here i experienced pain for about four years with no diagnosis i was just diagnosed with high tone pelvic floor dysfunction i would ask alllllllll of your doctors about it bc it could be what it is bc very many doctors havent been taught about it yet! i went to a urologist and she is who found it
yoga exercice worked immediatley for this male. sitting on the floor put legs staight out in frontulock the knees(fully extended straight) with feetpointed forward then lean back exhaling at the sametime which will cause your straight legs to lift hold it dont breathe to deep and hold breath 4 a sec after each exhale it says legs 35 degree angle from floor
I had lower back pain that radiated around to my abdomen when I was in my early 20's. It even got so bad sometimes that I threw up and could barely function. After several months of this on and off, my doctor finally sent me to a urologist. After some tests, we learned my right kidney was practically non functioning, and becoming infected. They had to remove it because it was only functioning about 5%. The surgery went really well-I was up and around in a few days..and that was 20 years ago! I am doing fine with the one good kidney. You might want to ask your doctor about seeing a urologist like I did-best move I ever made!
I have been reading your posts regarding abdominal and lower back pain. I see that allot of you have this problem but no one seems to have the answer. I also see allot of conversation about ovarian cysts. I am not at all convinced that this has anything to do with the pains. I to suffer with these pains. Always in the morning and persisting until around lunch time. It can not be my ovaries as I am a male. I am going to see my DR. and will share any findings via this site.
I've had low back pain and low left-side abdomen pain for a month. CT Scan with contrast showed a little diverticulosis, and my OBGYN ultrasound showed a small cyst, but nothing substancial. I had Ablasya & Sterilization done this past August, and thought the pain might be associated (somehow) with those procedures, but the OBGYN says no. The Gastro doctor has me on Bentyl (for IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome). She doesn't know for sure if I have IBS, just making an assumption. All I know is that the pain is horrible and affecting my day-to-day life, especially work. P.S. The doc's have ruled out kidney infection or kidney stones (which I do get every few years, or so).
It started with a terrible back pain , tightness and cruitiating pain when i get up and walk and turn . I have to refocus myself which way i should turn . I went to the doctor she gave me pain killer 600mg ibuprofen and cyclobenzaprine10mg its already more then a week and nothing helps. I even use heat pads and heat rubs nothing is helping this was suppose to be my 2wks vacation and turned out to be night mare. sometimes the pain goes away for a little bit then it starts tightening again also lower left abdominal pain with the back cramps now . i cant do anything around the house and feel very dependent on my family i just hate myself right now
I have been having these kinds of pains for years,,, from my mid 20's and am 43 now. I have gone through the colonoscopy and endoscopy bit and had the doc tell me all looks good. Blood work, urine and stool tests,, all seem to be ok but one thing my doctor told me at the start of all this was to not eat anything 5 hours before going to bed.
well ihave had all of this lower abdominal pains and lower back pain accompanied with dizzenss, just as if i was having my period but its not due yet,i had ultrasounds, xrays and everythign but there was nothing, all came out negative, also had a course of antibiotics incase it was pevlic infection but nothing really worked
Hello, I am also having this pain, for the last six month's alone. It only started after having unprotected sex. My period is still regular, and I am not on any forms of birth control. My boyfriend think's I am a hypocondriact. I am constantly complaining about this pain, though, I have taken many pregnancy test's and all have come out negative. I havn't taken a blood test, but plan on to within the next two month's, when I turn eighteen.
See, I am still young, and see no reason for having any gullstone's, or overian problem's.
Am I pregnant?
All I know is that this pain is bad, and I need answer's.
