Good lord this is like reading my own medical chart. Mine started as a sharp twinge in my lower left abdomen that would get worse after bowel movements on and off over ten years ago. It got worse, and I had a colonoscopy 6 years ago, where they found a polyp that was tested precancerous, but no celiac and no diverticulitis, everything else normal. I also had constipation which was bad at times but only a few times a year. Three years later I was found to be severely constipated. They did another colonoscopy and upper GI, everything was found normal, no polyps. I was told "women just get constipated like that" and told to take Miralax every night. That helped for awhile and once I normalized I stopped it. Six months later I went to the urgent care with severe pain in both my right and left lower abdomen, radiating to my back, and even some rib pain. I was found to be extremely constipated, and was told to do enemas and then resume Miralax. Again "this is a common female problem." I take Tramadol for restless leg syndrome, and have read that even though it is not a true opioid, it can sometimes cause opioid induced constipation. Plus I've read that Miralax taken daily can cause the colon to become lazy. For the past few months the pain just gets worse, stays mostly to the left, but radiates down my left thigh and around to my lower back. Some days are worse than others, and every once in awhile I'll go for a whole day without pain (woohoo!). In the past two years I've seen two OB/GYNs thinking it was either endometriosis or ovarian cancer (history of it in my family) and everything was normal, been to 2 different GIs, scared of the possibility of colon cancer, both of whom told me it was just constipation, "normal for women" and that I'd need to take Miralax for the rest of my life, been to the ER twice for the pain, where they did CTs with and without contrast and found nothing but a fatty liver, and been to urgent care and PCP several times, with NO certain results. I've gone gluten free, but it didn't help. Until I started looking up online and finding people like me, I honestly thought I was crazy. I'm not sure where I'll go from here, but at least I feel less alone. I am scared to go to anymore doctors because I don't want to be looked at YET AGAIN like I'm a hysterical woman.
I'm going to ask for an MRI and try to do some pilates or something to try to strengthen everything as this pain is quite excruciating. Good luck to you guys. I hope you all get answers and feel better soon :-)
