I too have had this lump in throat "feeling". It all started after an upper resp. infection. I started to develope chest pains and terrible feelings that I am going to die. I was put through endoscopy (without sedation), a chemical stress test for my heart (this scared me to death) and numerous blood work to no avail. My DR. is now looking into possible lyme disease, but I really don't think that is the problem. I do not have my tonsils and other than these weird "sensations" I am a healthy 32 year old woman that works out everyday. If anyone has found an answer to this problem, I would love to know what this is. I feel like it is ruining my life.
I think I have a similar thing. Mine definitley has some relation to eating wheat and dairy. Lactose intolerance causes mucous in chest--so does wheat. For me, the choking sensation when lying down, or the sensation of chest heaviness, seemingly, was due to mucous and undisgested food stuck in my chest.
A great solution for me was a steam treatment. You boil water in a pot. Then breathe over the pot with a towel over your head to get all the steam. I need about 30 minutes per treatment. Also, I got a prescription for Chlorex, which is a high power chest expectorant. I felt like I had been going around with a rock in my chest, before taking it.

After reading these posts...I guess I can contribute my problems from my teenage girls and their disrespect for me and nastiness almost 24/7. It has been worse lately with them. I do have to say they get very good grades and otherwise are good kids. I also have a 93 yo father I worry about. I have a lump in my throat, heaviness in the center area of my chest with some pain. I take deep breaths somewhat often as it feels like I am not breathing right and am not getting enough air. I feel these problems more often when they are around. Headaches on weekends and sometimes during the week. If I bend down and then get up, I have to pause because I feel as if I am going to pass (blank) out . Dizzy feeling in my eyes during some head movements. Fast heart beat some times and then sometimes it feels as if it is too slow. I guess we should look at the stress in our lives and post them in these messages with our similar symptoms. This would help us all better understand where we all are coming from life wise. And it is not just us. Thank you.
Everything that all of you are explaining and experiance are all signs and symptoms of a chronic anxiety disorder. I have had anxiety in multiple forms for many years. I would say the best advice I have is to write down all these feelings and then ask your doctor what he/she thinks about the possibility of anxiety. Good Luck to all of you, I know how hard it is to not understand.
Also, sleep apnea can cause your body to do some pretty strange things. A simple overnight sleep study can help diagnose that

i have had all these symptoms...i have had the feeling of something being in my throat or in my chest that is constantly there and no matter what i do it wont go away! it hurts to breath or to cough! i cant get any relief. i really dont know what to do here! but i am only 16 so im not sure if it is just stress or what but i have been feeling tired and dizzy all the time! if you have any information that could help me please let me know! thank you!
hey, I'm 20 years old. been having similar symptoms for about 5 months now.
It started with slight chest pains, then a few panic attacks out of literally nowhere. My doctors first impressions were that I was suffering from some kind of anxiety, either triggered by the initial chest pains (that could be anything) or because of a recent event in my life.
Recently I have developed a lump feeling in my throat and I feel like I'm constantly dizzy during the day. It is really affecting my life right now and I'm not active in anyway anymore. I'm tired of living like this and just want it sorted so badly.
I sympathies heavily with all of you who are feeling the same way.

Hi
I have this too. Started getting panic attacks not long after my mum died, but only in the night. It was really frightening at first, felt like the room was suffocating me and Id want to run out in the street to get air. Once I realised what it was I could control it to a certain degree by putting all the lights on, opening the curtains and windows and talking to myself. Still scarey though.I cant sleep in a room with very small windows because it seems to trigger it. Then I got the sensation in my throat like I had a ball stuck. Ive had alot of trauma and stress over the last few years so it may be anxiety. Recently I have had a pain in the left side of my neck, intermitent sore throat and croaky voice and the pain/tight feeling in my chest to the point I really thought I might be having a heart attack. I have been to the doctors for most of these things individually over time and the best theyve come up with is acid reflux. Im now taking omeprazole again to see if anything eases off. This last week or so I have felt nauseas when I eat and when I lie down and I get the light headed feeling too. I have alot more stress to come over the next few months so Im praying it doesnt get any worse, Im constantly completely wiped out. I'll be coming back here to see if any of you has had a diagnosis or cure. Im so glad Im not the only one experiencing this although I wouldnt wish it on anyone, its horrible, annoying and worrying. %-)

I have an endoscopy scheduled this coming wednesday to attempt diagnosing the exact same symptoms you have described. My Pulmonologist referred me to a Gastroenologist because he felt my symptoms were being caused by "GERD". I do not know yet whether my lump sensation in my throat and tight chest is being caused by GERD. But one of the issues I discussed with my doctor was that I don't have heartburn. He explained to me that many of the worst cases of GERD he has ever seen the patient doesn't experience heartburn. I guess if the nerves are damaged in the esophagus you won't feel a burn sensation. He thinks I have GERD Issues due to the following symptoms: Lumpy sensation in throat--tight cramping feeling in chest--history of regurgitation in to my mouth--increased breathlessness--and anxiety.
Hi guys i'm also experiencing all these same problems started with a lump feeling in throat for 1 month or so and now i feel very dizzy all the time and often feel like i cant breath. Also have been dr's and emergency room a few times and they have no answers.. im glad to see im not alone and it often feels like im dying. I have no idea what this could be but what i can see is it gets worse before u get better but it will go! Getting tests done at the drs does help because it assures you that its nothing serious..
most of these symptoms sound like what i have now, and that is a thyroid problem, the lump feels like its just above the dip at the base of your neck i had trouble swallowing, goitre-( inflammation of the thyroid gland in your neck ) , headaches muscle aches, could sleep for england 12 hours and still wanting more sleep, incredible thirst especially at night, crappy splitting nails, broken sleep , general lethargia, need to wee really often, food cravings, Horrendously heavy periods,no energyand all because your thyroid is a hormone gland and is not producing enough hormoneoh and by the way it mostly affects women!
Get to your GP and get a blood test if you have these symptoms they are signs of underactive thyroid

i have just recently been experiencing the lump in my throat syndrom too it is quite annoying and trouble some that combined with anxioty makes it soo much worse i have been to the hospital many times thinking i was having a heart attack or somthing cause i panick and get head aches then my chest hurts but it is soo nice knowing that i am not alone
I have been dizzy for 6 weeks 24x7 except when I lie down. This is killing me!
For 4 weeks, I've had this "lump" feeling in the throat and the ears pop when I swallow.
Done Brain MRI, blood work and test for mono - all fine.
Going to an ENT this week and hopefully they can tell me something. I think/hope it's anxiety but I simply can't relax until I know all major things are ruled out. Catch 22 situation now - anxiety causing this to my body and get anxious because of this in my body.
I'm absolutely tired of this and wake up every single day hoping it'll just be gone.
I'm also tired of the medical process: every little step takes a week or more to complete - scheduling a doctor, an exam, etc.
I'm just venting here and want to go back to how I was before - ZERO health problems and active!

i was worried. i first had a panic attack. i was under no stress. i just had one. that was on a sunday. a week later i had another one. then i started having breathing troubles. such as, i would have to yawn to get in the air i felt i needed. sometimes it felt like i was breathing enough. just short of breath. Then i couldnt sleep at night. i would wake up multiple times to take in some air. i decided it was time for a doctor. I went in and she said i had a hypoglycemic attack which triggered a panic attack. i told her of my sleeping and breathing problems. she told me that allergies were up. and i have noticed in the past, that when seasons change, or sudden temperature changes, i tend to get a stuffed up nose. Well, she gave me a steriod shot and prescribed me a bronchodilator, basically an inhaler. it relaxes my breathing airways and allows air to flow through into my lungs. i find that it helps me breathe and i dont have to worry about breathing, my body takes over so i dont have to keep reminding myself ot breathe 24/7. i worked out today. i played indoor soccer. my breathing has not been the same. i got a lump in the throat feeling and my lunds are tight. i have abunch of mucus in there and the exercise, i was hoping, would allow the mucus to breakup. i would suggest to your doctor a bronchodilator and maybe some mucinex or clartin. they are allergy medicines that help to breakdown mucus.
i hd been feeling really depressed because being sick like this has not made me happy, but miserable. i hope this helps everyone.

Stress can cause the muscles in your throat to tighten or have spasms, which can cause a feeling in the throat like you have a pill stuck in your throat.
