PLEASE READ THIS. I hear all of you out there. I dont know what the problems could be but but here is my so similar to all of you but with more details.

Started almost a year ago.

few years back i found out i'm allergic to alcohol so i stop drinking.

My symptom started when i was smoking, i dont usually smoke but i was with some college buddies. and when i inhaled, there was sharp pain, it lasted a few days and it went away. then out of no where few months ago my throat started to form mucus and stuff giving me a hard time. I had to clear my throat all the time. And then one day i finally look at my tonsils from the mirror with light and found patches of white stuff on both side of my tonsils. I went to my doctor and he said i could have strep troat and that when ever a person is not well or has infection the white stuff will appear. Is normal to have alittle of them. He gave me penicillin. It didnt help at all, and he started to give me stronger antibiotics and it was still there. i waited for 2 months while taking antibiotics. At some point the white patches slowly went away but leaving holes all over my tonsils. And the problem never went away. I had the sensation of something stuck or something on thye my right side of my throat. Is like i can only feel my right side, it doesnt hurt but just that everytime i swollow i can feel it. very streeeful and annoying but i learn to deal with it. The only thing that help is when i take a hot hot shower and when ever i eat. Spicy food or mike will make things worst, and when im stressed out it becomes bad. Now The mucus is less, but i am having a hard time breathing because mucus or burgers forms in my nose. Is like im having a heavy sinus but my system is telling me is something else. My doctor also suggest that i have acid reflex. I tired taking those tacma or someting to see if it was acid reflex but it didnt help. After taking all those pencillian i went to a hospital and this doctor gave me a strep throat test and alot of blood work and everything came back okay. I tested for mono, hiv and all those other possible diseases and it was all negative. I researched the internet and found nothing. I went back to my first doctor and then he suggest that i have anxiety that im too stressed out and that im at the ago of 18 to 25 that is normal. He prescribed me with lexapro stuff to help relax me but something strange happened to me. I have muscle spasm around my groin. The cost was the lexapro. Anyway nothing so far helped me. I went back for more blood test and thoat test all came back okay. The doctor at the hospital prescribe me with viral antibatic and it didnt help at all, infect make me felt worst. I tired so many different kind of aniticatic. My wife bought me multivitamins. i started taking those at the same time while i was taking antibitics. IN the morning i take one thing and at night i take the other. THen i found out that men at my ago do not need to take vitimin, and that by taking multivitimins could lead to some serisous health issues. Now out of nowhere i form hives and went to my old family doctor and he prescribed me with allergic pill and more antibiotic for my face. I didint mention this but my face was breaking out badly out of nowhere. from a pretty pace to a ugly face. and it was not normal acnes. It was all over my face, and they were big and became huge sores. The antibiotic he prescribed me helpd and those acne/sores went away. I got so stressed out and been tired from what ever it is. The only thing that was on my mind was that the doctor said my blood is good but my immune system was low, and the second blood test showed that the immune system was even lower. He told me that is fine and that i need to eat more green and it will go back up. i dont understand i am so healthy and works out alot and used to feel so strong like a god. Ever since that day i been eating a lot of green because i was too young to die and that i was to live long. and yes i agree that i took my health grant before and i am feeling horrible. I had changed alot ever since. i have learn to value my life and the others around me. I am also stressed about making more money. All cause by this problem. I have this one big problem, i dont know what is wrong with me so i called my old doctor and had him give me a referral to a specialist, in other word a ENT doctor.

The first day there he didnt do anything and told me to get some more referrial since i have HMO everything needs a referrial. So the second time i went there he had a camera down my throat and saw nothing and told me that i had ugly tonsils and that my tonsils were slightly large and swollen. and he gave me a allergy test and nothing happened. I went back the third time and for the second test and i was found allergic to food and stuff, but i didnt care because i had the allergy pill that help me when my body breaks out crazy, hives and itchy. The ENT prescribe me with Sinus spray for my nose and wash for my nose. It didnt help and made it worst when ever i use the spray at night time. but the wash was good because it helps me to breath and blow my nose easier. Then he also give me prevacid and it didnt seem to help . He suggest that i have acid reflex again and heavy sinus. I know thats not it.

SO doctors had suggest that i have

ACID REFLEX

HEAVY SINUS

ANXIETY nerd issue that because im stressed out the system made me believe that there was something wrong with my right side of my throat.
I told my self that had to be the most ridiculous thing everr and im continuing to search for answers

Ever since the sharp pain in my throat about a year ago now i have allergic. All those drugs had made me what used to be a body builder guy into a deeply depressed men that always had red eyes when ever i wake up, still alway a weird sensation on the right side of my throat, felt like having a breathing problem. felt tired alot of time.

The last thing the ENT told me was to take my tonsils out and see if that'll help. And i went back to him like two days ago and he suggest to me that im not infected and i dont have anything that'll kill me. He said just try to relax and wait it out. I only felt better because i know im not going to die.

I hope all of you out there can read this and that your not alone.

Very informative.
I thought I had cancer or something.
In July a reaction to anti-b's for an amaeba treatment caused severe stomack pain, and itching in my palms and feet.
Coming back to Honduras after a treatment with antiinflamatory, and
angelesticos, I again having a sore throat.
Have ignored it for a while, but now two months assume I should go to
my excellent doctor.
All your comments were helpful, as I am not the only one with this.
I will make sure its not something more serious, but maybe some
virus is going around ??

im 18 and ya ive had this lump in my throat feeling for about 2 months and i too have been thinking that we never take good health for granite as i havent been able to do many normal winter activities here in michigan because of the stress and worrying i put on myself after having this condition. it seems unfixable but im sure there must be a cure for it because it seems like a common problem. I got an ultra sound on my throat today and i get the results back on wednesday and see my ent doctor. Im thinking maybe getting my tonsils removed would help the case or at least help me stop getting infections and on and off bronchitis and possible tonsilitis which i havent been diagnosed with. In the morning my throat feels normal after I wake up and over the course of the day it seems to come back.

If anyone has any information on relieving this terrible feeling that would be great but it seems you all are in the same boat that i am in.

Hey i don't think you need to worry. It is easy to start becoming a hypochondriac with MINOR stuff like this. I have had teh sensation since i had moved to los angeles and had spent time in new york. I am originally from the south central plains so that means i was having really bad allergies. I was also having bad anxiety and bad acid reflux which go hand in hand with the anxiety. I still have the feeling. Your Eustachian tube can get clogged or inflamed with bad allergies. If you are between 18 and 25 that is when you start really developing allergies. This clogging will cause you too have a lump sensation every time you swallow. I went to the doctor 3 or 4 times and they all said the same thing. I had no endoscopy done. I did have blood work and everything was well within normal range. If you let this issues bother you they are going to get worse and worse. You will start thinking there is something wrong with you which will cause you to become more ill. My suggestion is go run workout play sports and whatever you do like that every time you start getting these anxiety episodes. If there is something seriously wrong with you, then you wont be able to physically perform. Also keep in mind that you probably have acid reflux. IT is quite logical...acid creeps into your throat...maybe while you are sleeping and especially after eating spicy foods. It irritates your throat which can cause you to form scabs or swell up. My "lump" sensation is sometimes hard concerning texture and sometimes slimy. I think this is due to post nasal drip which is related to allergies...the mucous will drip down making it slimy and then will eventually dry up making it feel hard. So anyway go look online for what foods you can eat to prevent your reflux. You can get better from it. You just have to stick to a strict diet and let your stomach heal. Prilosec otc or even any generic acid reducer will help but will not be too effective if you still have a poor diet. Sleep with your head elevated several inches. Try not to eat about 3 hours before you sleep. Eat small meals(6) instead of large. You can't have caffeine, peppermint, chocolate, or alcohol. Watch out also for citrus fruits and tomatoes based products. Anyway hope all this info is of some help. Life is way too short to spend it in fear of death. Peace by with you and God bless you.

i'm having the same problems, lump sensation in my throat, although not all the time, swollen glands, enlarged tonsils. I'm not feeling hungry and feel quite worried as it's gone on for around three months but going to ENT next week. it's been good to read that others feel the same and this alone is helpful. good luck to all.

hey everyone,

i've been having the same problem since December 08, i woke up one day and found that swallowing was slightly harder than usual. it got to the point where it was annoying me so much and after reading online and getting scared of the possibilities i wanted to get diagnosed properly. i smoked marijuana on/off and the odd cigarette since i was 17 til i was 21 at uni and quit full stop after, i'm 23 now, so didnt think it was anything related.

went to visit the doc and he said it was just a swollen lymph node and it would heal on its own but would take a while. actually knowing what it was relieved my tension so much and after a week or 2 it seemed to go away. i have a very stressful job, i gym 2/3 times a week, travel to see my gf on the weekends and sing in a band but he said it probably wasnt due to stress??

hmmm...

anyway, it pretty much went and i didnt worry about it until after a night out drinking it just came up again. now if it was something serious im pretty sure it wouldnt die down and pop-up back again. i think it might be something to do with CFS/ME (chronic fatigue syndrome) or laryngitis? as yesterday i felt so tired and dizzy (which has never happened before) and just generally felt knackered.

anyway. off to see the doc again in a few hours for a 2nd opinion but from a different doc. will let you know how i get on!

appreciate people posting things here - i know you shouldn't look on the net for wrong diagnosis ad getting worried (which you really shouldnt) but to know that a lot of other people have the same problems and are honest enough to talk about it helps us.

peace

This first appeared back in July. I chocked it up to allergies, which I suffer from almost year round. It lasted a couple of weeks and then went away for a couple of weeks. It has continued to come and go. It is not painful. It doesn't bother me to eat or drink. It just feels like I have something in my throat when I'm sitting around. I've been to scared to go see a doctor. I have researched a lot on the net and have heard a lot of stuff. Just not sure what to think.

Since May, 2008 I feel like having something in my throat all the time, specially after eating. It is neither painful nor it bothers me to eat or drink. I have tonsil problems also. I do not know whether it is because of swelling of tonsils or what. My recent blood and urine reports are ok.

Hi to you all,
I used to work as an air hostess until i began having problems with my throat and ears. I was referred to the ENT where they did x rays and i had blood tests done. I usually suffer more at night- it feels like there is a lump in my throat which pushes on my ear drums causing pain and dryness-i never sleep without a glass of water next to me now!! ENT suggested it was reflux. Although the tablets do help, the pain is still there and the lumps still appear. I'm not sure if it is related but i also had symptoms of a stroke about a year ago and have suffered from an absuss. My throat pain has been going on for about 2 and a half years now but still, no one knows what it is. Although it is unfortunate, it is good to see that others have similar symptoms to me as i feel that sometimes the professionals think you are making it up!! I really don't enjoy going to the docs. Any suggestions for alternative treatment would be much appreciated or if you have similar symptoms and you have a good treatment that works-medical or alternative!! Thanks. X

Hi,
I would like to respond to the comment on 02/27/07. I have the same symptoms however i had my tonsils out when i was younger so i am guessing that it might not be related to tonsils (I also had lots of problems at a younger age hence having them taken out early on). The only thing that helps me is having water, throat spray and a tub of vicks next to my bed at night!! The vicks seems to help stop my throat being as dry and relieves pain in my ears!! I am also looking for other suggestions. I was told by ENT that it was acid reflux as well. The tablets (Lansoprazole) did help me but the problem is still there.

It's odd we all have this but the doctor(s) always diagnose it wrong. Is it some kind of superflu that we all don't know about? Of course not but it's got to be something right?

About 5 months ago I was ill. Really ill; I had a banging headache, it hurt when I moved my eyes and my throat felt fu****. 2 days later and I'm back to normal.

I've seen the doctor a few times everytime this crops up. It doesn't dissapear, simply hides in the background for a little while.

I'm 18 and I really can't be dealing with this, it's a pain in the ass. My tonsils are constantly swolen, my throat is swolen, my cheeks have bulked out quite a bit and I get terrible headaches (maybe from playing too much xbox imo) but the point still stands.

If there a souloution to this medical problem or are we all destined to feel crappy for years to come.

/Adam.

my symptoms were lump in the throat and shortness of breath. i went to 3 doctors and 2 told me it was stress but i knew it wasnt. The 3rd doc. prescribed me advair and that cured me. I never had asthma and i work out all the time and this had never happened. i also took amoxil and that helped too. i had this condition for almost 2 years and i had already gotton used to it but OMG what a relief it was to get rid of it.

Hope this helps.

ive had this constant feeling of a lump in my throat for about a year now and finally got it checked out.

my symptoms include:
-non painful lump at the bottom of my throat
-feeling of the lump only at rest/when not doing anything
-feeling of phlegm that makes me feel that i need to swallow constantly
-no problems eating/drinking
-occasional flareup for no apparent reason

the diagnosis by the ENT was tighness of the cricopharyngeal muscle, which is reportedly induced by stress or can be brought about by intermittent reflux (that does not cause heartburn). both of these factors cause the cricopharyngeus to tighten due to irritation leading to contraction of this muscle.

i did some further research and discovered that the condition is called Globus Hystericus or Hypopharyngeal syndrome.

the condition is benign and requires relaxation therapy, throat muscle stretches, anti reflux meds or muscle relaxants such as valium.
