This is in reply to my last post above, after 3 months of cramping I've quit smoking and about 48 hours later my smptoms went away, no cramping, no morning nausea, no waking up in the middle of the night in pain, no digestion problems, no bloody stools, I felt great, so I know it had something to do with smoking marijuana, but its hard to find any reasoning for this, even in the blogs I've been reading, so I thought maybe if I cooked my weed in brownies I wouldn't get the bad effects I was getting from smoking it...well last night I through what was left of my silver haze into a batch of brownies, and I got high, real high! But then I woke up at 4:00 in the morning with mild stomach cramps, and I have had a little bit of digestion problems again. This really sucks, I think I'm going to have to quit for good. But if anyone knows what I'm talking about or has some advice, I would really appricieate a reply, I paid 10 bucks to this website to tell them what happened and asked what I should do, I told them the pain went away when I stopped smoking, and they just said try quitting, well no **** sherlock, I paid 10 buck for you to tell me that. thats what I just finished explaining to them, but I want to quit as a last resort.

Some more inexperienced users will often 'swallow' some of the smoke when they are inhaling the 'erb, and this smoke obviously goes directing into the stomach. This will cause stomach cramps! Maybe this is what happened to you son

No ive smoked for years and have never gotten this problem, I quit for about 2 weeks and all the stomach cramping and symptoms went away and I fely great, like a medical miracle, my hemroids went away, the acid reflux went away and I felt wonderful. so I wanted to try to smoke again because almost all the blogs I've read say that I"m crazy for thinking that smoking marijuana is giving me stomach cramps, So I took one hit 2 nights ago, and the next day I woke up and had a little discomfort in my abdomin, not too much though. But the next day I smoked 2 times and I woke up at 2 in the morning with agonizing sharp pain, I got up and had a bowel movement that was very runny (sorry for the gross details) and I couldn't get back to sleep for almost 2 hours, and then I woke up in the morning with bad hunger pains, even though I ate about the same amount I always eat at night. Then I started getting acid indegetion and my stomach has been uncomfortable all day, this is the exact same way I was feeling before when I smoke marijuana. I know this has something to do with smoking marijuana, i'm not an inexpeiernced smoker, it has been my lifestyle for a while now.
I just want to put this on the record for all the peoplet that say I don't know what I'm talking about, obviously this is a rare problem cause no one seems to give me an answer, but I know there is a direct link between smoking marijuana and getting stomach cramps, at least for me. If someone knows what it might be I would really appriciate some info or some advice, thanks. - Mike

I recently developed stomach problems and have also been a heavy potsmoker for some time. Suspecting I had an ulcer, I cut down on everything that might be related to or cause the suspected ulcer: coffee, alcohol, heavy or fatty foods. The last thing I was willing to cut out of my diet was smoking weed. When I cut out smoking, my symptoms decreased within days.

I eventually went to a gastroenterologist who told me I most likely have an ulcer or a hernia. In either case, the problem is where my esophagus meets my stomach.

It's been months and every once in a while a take a bong hit to see if I can, and there are bad results. Stomach pain again that night and the following morning. Luckily, eating weed or using a vaporizer doesn't hurt me, so I think the main issue is not the weed but smoke in general, which is consistent with all the internet/doctor sites which say smoking is the worst thing for stomach issues, especially ulcers or hernias. Hope this helps.

I have been smoking weed everyday for 3 years. About 2 years ago I got such a bad ulcer I went to the hospital and they actually found infarcts (gashes) in my spleen. They don't have medicine for that so I just had to stay in bed for a month. When I started smoking weed again it all came back, but not nearly as bad. Mostly everyday though my stomache kills me. It doesn't even feel like my stomache though its right in between my two lungs right where they seperate, very high up.

I always thought it was about weed, because the two people I know that smoke the most they have it too. I searched for it on google and found this. If anyone found anything that helped (besides stop smoking) please let me know. I don't want to stop smoking ganja =/

Hi, I have been very relieved to finally hear other people say anything about stomach or other pain that seems to be caused by ingesting marijuana. I have been a long time chronic smoker and over the last year I have been getting strange pains. The most common occuring pain is on the left side of my stomach, where sometimes it is a dull pain and at other times it's more of an intense burning pain. I also sometimes get sharp needle like pains through my chest. I have gone for numerous tests now, including chest x-rays, endoscopy, and a host of blood tests etc. My pains also occur when eating baked goods containing pot. Does anyone have a clue as to what it is that causes this?

I have been using a digital herbal yaporizer for the past 2 days and it seems like my abdominal pains aren't nearly as bad as what I had felt when I was smoking weed, this might help out, it seems good so far, i'll post back in a week.

Well I tried the digital herbal vaporizer for a week and it felt like I was still getting stomach problems, but as soon as I quit using the vaporizer my stomach problems went away again, so now I ordered some pills that are a type of intestinal and colon cleanser as well as some prevention pills from getting things clogged in your intestine, I'll try it and reply in a week.

I've been smoking pot for almost 20 years now (I'm in my 40's). Not heavily, but constantly. In 1996, after years of getting stomach aches for no reason, I was diagnosed with Crohn's colitus (ulcerations in the colon, G.I. tract scarring). So not only would I get stomach aches prior to a bowel movement, I would always get stomach aches AFTER my bowel movements (which makes absolutely no medical or logical sense) and most of the time, it was after I ate heavy foods like pizza, spaghetti & meat sauce, fried foods and milkshakes, so I wisely decided to cut out all those foods from my diet. For the last few years now I only eat salads, soups, light turkey, light chicken and drink lots of bottled water (if you knew how many million of viral bacteria lived in plain tap water, you'd tear out your kitchen sink). The key here is that whenever I used to get a stomach ache, it was a 100% SURE THING that after a couple tokes of my pipe, all pains and stomach problems literally disappered. Here's the shock: Since the beginning of October 2007, smoking pot NOW does the complete opposite. WTF??? The problem now is even though I've changed to a much healthier diet, I've started to get "hunger pains stomach aches" almost every 3 hours. WTF??? I also get stomach aches for no reason (even after a small salad). I've traced the probable cause to this (and I think many other pot users with stomach problems can attest to it), is that after I eat a good meal I would usually wait about 15-30 minutes and then relax with a single toke or two of pot. Even at night, after a light dessert, I would smoke pot, say, to watch a movie before going to bed. In essense, even though "I" felt great, my stomach, on the other hand, went to bed "hungry" (night after night, month after month). Unfortunately, after years of doing this, I think I have corrupted my stomach's inner lining, by smoking pot AFTER I ATE, thus leaving my stomach in a perpetual "atrophy", a raw state of EXPECTING to be filled with food. So now I get stomaches whether I eat or not. Here's the kicker: My latest colonoscopy back in Jun 2006, showed that my scarring had lessened and there's no sign of cancer yet (thank god), yet the opposite has happened. I'm getting more stomache aches for no reason now more than ever. Like 100% of most pot smokers, I, too, enjoy the mellow high and it's CREATIVE influence on the mind (I'm a writer), but it looks like I will be forced to quit this little "vice" of mine, even if it takes months or years for my stomach to return to normal. In closing, I still believe there is no harm from pot smoking, unless, after years of using, one's long term addiction has caused their stomach to become a painful, worriesome nuisance. Remember when smoking pot used to be fun?

I, too have stomach pains. I did a search on google and this site came up first. After reading the initial thread here:

https://www.steadyhealth.com/marijuana_withdrawal_and_severe_stomach_pain-t73805-0-asc-0.html

I decided I needed to quit. I've smoked on and off since I was 14, and everyday within the last year (I'm 19 now). I'm on my 3rd day and my stomach pains are getting a little better. I was able to scoff down a meal today like I had the munchies! However, now that it is a few hours later, my stomach hurts again and I can't eat anything without feeling nauseous. I'm going to try fresh fruits like grapes to see if that'll help me eat a little better. I also found that some apple juice helped a little and at least made the pains tolerable/barely noticeable.

I'm not getting the anxiety, nervousness, or anger like others are getting. However, I'm starting to remember my dreams and have more of them. Come to think of it, in the past year I was high, I can't remember a time I had a dream. I'm getting some mild hot flashes and the occasional palm sweating/sweating at night. I find it hard to sleep as well, but I'm getting there. Video games really help take my mind off smoking.

Anyways, I just felt a need to contribute to this forum with my experiences, as they may help someone else. I know, for a fact, that this site has helped me tremendously in quitting because of the vast experiences I've read about. Thanks a lot everyone, I'm well on my way and extremely happy about it.

8-| so lets consider some simple logistical things about the herb we all want to love but that the body is sometimes unsure of...when I smoke which i have been for a long time numerous times per day, my appetite is killed for the first half hour, and if i was hungry before i smoked, i am hit with this intense hunger and pain usually an hour or less later, then it is harder to eat because the stomach has adjusted to no food for a while and food irritates the stomach and digestion more at this stage...so yes these symptoms all seem familiar and I think they are all related to weed because I have tried changing everything else...weed f**ks up your diet patterns and the more you smoke the more screwed up they get.

I've been smoking weed on and off since I was in high school 15 years ago, after quiting a year ago I started up again and for the last few months have smoked 2-3 times per day everyday and for the past 5 days I've been experiencing the stomach aches and nausea described here.

I'm not certain it's the weed itself that causes the nausea as my caffeine and sugar intake must have trippled since I started smoking again, my problems started when I took a two day break from the bong, my appetite disapeared and my coffee/soft drink intake droped a huge amount.

I was drinking 3-4 cans of coke between midnight and 4am every day of the week and eating all sorts of junk then going to bed on a stomach full of caffeine, sugar and fat.

If you're experiencing nausea symptoms when quiting the herb it may infact be a case of caffeine withdrawl, I wasn't aware of just how much cafinated drinks I was drinking while stoned and when I didn't have the herb I didn't feel like drinking as much which has bought on the nausea.

I'm glad to see its not just me. I am a long time pot smoker(23 years), and have been dealing with stomach problems for 5 years. Ive tried everything and quitting smoking brings the only relief. Once I feel better I always go back and it is always a mistake.
Dont fool yourself the way I have hundreds of times, Its not from swallowing smoke, or the way you are consuming it. I would quit for weeks and take 2 hits and BAM!, more stomach problems. My Doc says this irritation can lead to cancer!!
I am not anti-pot, I just believe some of us aren't meant to smoke no matter how much we desire.

Yes, I think the only thing I'm going to have to do is quit, I tried smoking weed while taking these herbal anti-bacterial defense, called paratrex, along with the intestinal cleanser oxy-powder, it seems like it helps out a little, but I've been taking them for a couple of months now, but when my supply of the herbal supplements ran out the first time, my pains came right back and I had to quit smoking and the pain went away, I ordered some more of the herbal supplements but they are expensive, and I still had a little pain after a few weeks, I've had enough, its just getting to be too much of a hassell, I think your right Travdog, some people just arent meant to smoke pot, I'm going to miss it, but when you say that your doctors told you the inflammation could lead to cancer its not worth the risk, this stuff isnt worth dying for, and i've tried almost everything to suppress the pain, from cooking it and eating it, to using a vaporizer, to taking pills to try and stop the pain, but I keep getting all these pains whenever I smoke. Thats it, I guess everything happens for a reason.
