I came across this site tonight doing research on what be causing my stomach problems. I am 26 years old and have been smoking off and on since I was 16. I have had breaks for a couple years at a time, but recently have been smoking pretty steadily over the last 2-3 years. I just got a new job recently which requires me to travel occasionally for week long events in different places. When I go on these trips I must stop smoking typically.

A big part of the trips usually involves going out at night after all of the work stuff during the day to drink excessively. Recently when I have stopped smoking for a few days, and then drink any amount of alcohol, I feel extremely nautious the following morning and will vomit anything that I intake into my body, including water. On this very last trip I had one single beer on a specific night and still experienced the same symptoms the following morning. Another very interesting symptom is a sharp pain in my upper right abdomen when I fly on plans after drinking alcohol. Research seems to indicate this could be related to my gall bladder so that is one thing I would definitely like to have looked at.

When I am at home and smoking regularly I can drink as much as I want, and although I do not always feel great in the morning, I am not vomiting like I am on these trips when I cannot smoke. The other thing to note is that I have had what I would consider soft stool for over a year now and I am not sure if this is related to the marijuana use or not. I have been checked out by a doctor once and had stool samples examined to find nothing. The only thing I can think is that the marijuana use slows my digestive system and so the food passes through without being fully digested.

My plan at this point is to stop smoking and drinking entirely for the next couple of weeks and then go in to see a new doctor. I will post what I find, if anything.

There is a lot to read here and I read a lot of it but not all of it..

I smoked a lot of marijuana for about a year and a half and later stomach (upper abdominal) pains started.. I thought it was anxiety for a while, but when it got bad enough that I was throwing up everything I ate, I had to talk to my doctor..

After an upper endiscopy was performed, a HUGE ulcer was discovered in my stomach.. I didn't admit to how often I smoked, but I did admit I smoke on occasion.. They said to stop drinking and smoking, as well as changing my eating habits drastically..

I haven't smoked since I got out of the hospital, and I've been on a lot of Protonix to treat the ulcer..

Also, this new bacteria that researchers are discovering causes ulcers (H pylorum, I believe) came back negative on the biopsy of the ulcer..

That means the ulcer was not caused by the bacteria that commonly causes them, so I had to look to other possible reasons. I've always had anxiety and stress problems, and the old-school thought was that stress can lead to ulcers

I don't want to think that smoking marijuana caused the ulcer, but after reading several of these posts I'm becoming disheartened.. I know no one here is a doctor or whatever, but I think I might just admit to my doctor next time I see him that I smoked a lot and ask if he thinks that's what caused it

I have been smoking pot daily for 5 years and I too have similiar problems. Considering that there seems to be alot more talk about this link between smoking pot and chest and/or abdominal pains just within the last few years, I can't help but wonder if there is a new additive/contaminate/pesticide or product such as Brix+ being added to marijuana that is causing this problem. Not trying to be paranoid but considering the recent contamination of marijuana in the U.K. (search for "GRIT WEED") and a numerous amount of "sketchy bags" that I've come across this year in Chicago, its enough to make me want to quit for good. Ever wonder whatever happened to fluffy buds? Every bag of $50-60 bag of dank/chronic that I buy, the nugs are heavy, dark and dense (buds still look pretty though). I have a hard time believing that this is the state the bud is in when picked from the plant. I know that out west in Colorado/California etc. it isn't like this, but here in the midwest this is 80-90% of what I see. Probably has something to do with the fact that out West the buds are usually being supplied from hippie's and the like, while here in Chicago the top connects are gang bangers out to make a buck. Sad to see such a great plant going down the tubes like the rest of society.

Happy Smoking %-)

yes weed can cause stomach irritation trust me I wish it didnt but id be lying to myself. Ive been smoking weed very very frequently for 8 months up in to about a month ago. I went to the doc they put me on anti acid meds but that still didnt help then they refered me to a gastrology doc who decided to perform an endoscopy which is a proceder when they stick a camera down ur throat to see whats wrong. it turned out to be extremely inflamed and irritated. The doc told me that all the THC was collecting in my stomach and was irritating it. So yea i stoped smoking...everyday...and now every couple of few weeks. Trust me u should slow ur smokin up a little cuz u dont wanna be like me u really dont...just try to moderate it. Now im taking painkillers everyday just so i dont have to feel my stomach hurt. I wish i wouldnt have smoked so much so quick.

I've have been smoking weed for about 4 years over the last 9 months I extremely increased the amount that i was smoking. It became a everyday routine like going to the bathroom. I smoked like this for about 4 months then i began to have very bad stomach pains. I went to the doc and they said i might have acid reflux so the gave me prevacid. That did not work so i went back and they recommended me to a gastrology doctor. He decided to perform and endoscopy which is when they knock u out and stick a camera down your throat to your stomach. It revealed that my whole stomach was inflamed and had severe nerve damage. The doctors said that since i was smoking so much that the THC was irritating my stomach lining.i stopped smoking for awhile and i notice my stomach pains were not as bad as when i was all the time but even now when i smoke if im not on a painkiller i hurts my stomach. Now I'm forced to seek out and look for pain killers because i cant deal with the pain. My edvice to anyone who is experiencing stomach pains and are smoking marijuana on a regular basis is to please slow it up cut back a little i mean i smoke still but every couple of few weeks. Trust me u do not and i mean u do not want to feel the pain i feel. Its not worth it!!!

I have searched for the last year and a half for some medical precedent for my stomach pains. I always knew it was related to my marijuana intake. I was a heavy smoker for years with no problems. About two years ago, I started having serious abdominal and gastric pain, directly triggered by smoking pot. I tolerated the pain for several months, but finally had to quit. I baked some brownies, in the hope that I could still eat weed, just not smoke it. My stomach pains were worse than they had ever been, so I quit pot for about 6 months. When I tried again, the pain came right back. A few months later, it still hadn't gone away. My theory was that the smoke was the main problem, so I got a vaporizer. That changed everything. Although the pain sometimes recurred, it was much less intense and frequent. But it still causes my stomach to gargle. I am constantly burping, have to pee more frequently, and my stool is looser. I love the vape, but it doesn't completely cure it. I am mostly to blame, since I smoke the vape recklessly, like I'm making up for lost time. I have visited the hospital for a diagnosis several times. It was partially attributed to anxiety, although I am certain that there were real physical problems, too. I had several types of exams and xrays, with no reasonable diagnosis. No one seemed to understand my symptoms, until I read this thread. I had no visible problems with my gall bladder or lungs, although at one time I thought it could be either. The only problem that recurs, despit use of the vape, is my stomach discomfort. It's like my stomach is empty and demanding food even when I'm not hungry. Of course, the feeling directly corresponds to when and how much I smoke. At this point, marijuana is my favorite anti-anxiety medication. But now it has me paranoid that I am developing an ulcer, as a result. I worry that there may be blood in my stool. I don't want to quit, and I think the vaporizer is a useful solution. The pain is definitely intensified with actual smoke, so the vaporizer is a necessary first step.
In the last few weeks, the pain was so minimal that I actually took a few hits of real smoke. At first, no problem. But then, my chest and stomach area started to feel enflamed. The problem may be related to the smoke, but my stomach doesn't get better when I heavily hit the vape, since it keeps the areas enflamed. I need to give myself time to heal so that I can smoke the vape carefree again.
Therefore, my new strategy is vape-only smoking in moderation, allowing plenty of time for my stomach to heal at night. Crazy, right? But if you have searched and found this thread, it is because you don't want weed to ruin your health, but you also don't want to quit for good, right? Well, I am cutting out the wake-and-bake, getting healthy and consistent meals all day so that I won't smoke on an empty stomach. Although cutting out the wake-and-bake is a big step for me, I also plan to be more moderate the rest of the day, with a session after lunch and one after dinner. That will have to do. If I experience decreased pain effects, great. But after reading these posts, I know that I will ultimately have to phase out anything that may cause me ulcers. With this strategy, maybe I can minimize my risk and pain, while phasing weed out in a way that won't completely change my lifestyle. Maybe this strategy will help prevent me from having to 'quit' again, so that every now and then, with minimal risk, I can get high.

THIS MESSAGE IT TO JDubs!yea i have a volcano vaporizer and i notice that it is better than smoke but one thing to remeber tho man is that it emits a higher percentage of THC than traditonal smoking which infact can irritate it more. i was to the point where i felt like i need to get high everyday like i need it like a coke addict need coke, but after time and continous pain i decided to quit for a few months to let my stomach heal. Yea i admit that im not gonna quit for good but it took awhile for my stomach to get this bad and its gonna take awhile for it to heal. Don't freak about getting an ulcer the marijuana won't cause that but cigarettes will. If u smoke those that can be a additional and deadlier cause of pain and can cause stomach cancer. Remember everything u smoke or vapor goes down ur stomach as well. And about the blood in ur stools if ur were to have some it would be completly black because when blood digestes it turns black. If its red or shows blood in it that means there is somethin wrong with ur lower intentins which would not be from smoking because that is way past where food and other thing get digested, or it could be because ur pushing to hard or are constipated which will cause the pollops in ur anal track to burst which will make it look like there is blood but u may think it came from ur stomach but it real didn't. Gross yeah but its just to inform you so u dont freak out if it where to happen.

As far as smoking twice or even once a day i would serious cut back to at the most 1 time a week. Your smart by doing it when ur stomachs full but not by doing it everyday. Im not trying to be a mother figure im just trying to help u avoid wut im going through and how i feel. If your getting stomach pains when u vape or smoke just amagine having that pain continiously all day all night all the time without it getting better?! That how i am and now i have to waste all my money to get painkillers just to feel normal. Trust me u dont want to be like me. Yea just think about it tho its not a final commitment its just a break so ur stomach can heal and so you can enjoy it without hurting. And i had everything from endoscopes to xrays to catscans they say there nothing visible and that i might be nerve damage which makes them super sensitive. And about ur chest my whole esaphagus down to my stomach is enflamed and i kno this because of the endoscope that i had done so that might be why ur chest hurts except its not ur chest it ur esaphagus. But yea from one stoner to another a wish best for you in whatever decision u make and i hope that your stomach feels better and that someday u can smoke without hurting.
Take care...

Hey everyone, I posted here 5 or 6 months ago about my stomach problems when I smoke, I tried to take colace which was a stool softener 2-3 times a day, and then take an instentinal cleaner at night and this really seemed to really help for a few weeks, I just couln't eat anything at night or I would wake up with bad cramping and feel like c**p all day long, but as soon as I quit smoking pot all the pain and cramping went away within 48 hrs, regardless of my diet or taking any other pills, but I tried this out for a few months because it's hard for me to quit smoking completely.

Well after a few months my pains started subltly coming back again, I didn't want to quit so I kept smoking but I stared getting bad cramping again, bad hemmroids (Kind've embarrasing), constipation, fatige, bloatedness, and then I started getting small bouts of nausea, and then one night when I got the munchies my hunger got the best of me, and I ate almost ten chocolate candy eggs left over from easter, and I went right to bed.

The next morning I woke up with an unbelieveable amount of pain in my stomach, I had bad cramping, nausea, and I felt more fatiged than I feel after a 4 mile run. I got sick and threw up a river of chocolate in my bathroom sink, but it was a very unfamilar type of vomiting, after I threw up I felt even more weak, I got even more sick as the day went on, and the more I thew up the more it started tasting like blood. And my stools started looking black and tarry with a very pungent type of smell. I quit smoking and was in bed for 3 days not eating anything except yogurt and chicken broth, and I started getting better as the days went by, I started to feel a whole lot better 3 days after I quit smoking, the cramping all went away, I started feeling more energetic, and I started to eat solid foods again like burgars and fries. I thought I would try one toke on the pipe to see how much it would bother me.

About 30 min later all the pain all the cramping all the nausea all the fatigue came right back again, just like clockwork. It's taken me another 3 days to recover again from that 1 toke but now I'm feeling better again, I'm pretty sure I have an ulcer, I'm applying for health insurance now, it's kind've costly for me though, but I don't think I have any other option. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I've never heard of it, I'm going to quit smoking completely now, at least until I get a diagnosis from a professional Dr. or someone as to what this might be.

Anytime someone suggests eating pot, it also needs to be stated, be very careful about eating it. It can get you far higher than you can possibly get by smoking it. Eat slow and in very small quantities until you know the effects. Wait 30 minutes before eating more, it takes about that long to kick in when eating it. Also, you can't just eat raw, you've got to heat it up for it to be effective. So grind it up and put in food that you cook, or even better make pot butter.
