I am here to tell you that marijuana is extremely addictive. I hope others can learn from my experiences. I moved to Oregon specifically because I read about the great marijuana here. I am 46 years old, been smoking daily since age 14. I dont take any other substance. I have never gone more than 60 days in my adult life not smoking pot, and most of the time it is morning bong hit upon waking up, and then smoking every 2 hours or so, to late night bong hit just before bed. I have suffered financially, economically, psychologically, and emotionally over this very disgusting substance. I have episodes of chronic coughing and choking. I have now not smoked for 22 days and still have feelings of severe depression, anxiety, pain, and the feeling that life is just not worth living. anyone telling you marijuana is harmless is in total denial of the truth. hopefully, i will get back to a good and effective, drug free state of mind soon. peace

I just started college this year, and prior to coming here i could have counted all the times i smoked weed on one hand. And now halfway through my first year in college i smoke everyday. I am into weighlifitng big, i havent worked out high yet becuase i was afraid that i would hurt myself by doing to much weight or something dumb while im high. And i just started wondering if weed affects my muscle building a recovery. Wiseman above me is right though, it is addicting, not physicaly but mentaly. I want to smoke all the time, i cant stop wanting to. I smoke also to relax my muscles after i lift and on off days. Do not start smoking weed!!! Its expensive and takes over you life. I am going to try now that ive read all these other comment smoking before i lift to see if the effect is good or bad.

You should point out that marijuana can be psychologically addictive. I've smoked it for over 24 years and when I run out, oh well, I have no adverse affects. I do not, however, smoke it all day long. Maybe a hit in the morning then at night as a nightcap.
I won't say marijuana is harmless, but I will say that it is a natural pain reliever and an anti-depressant. Life is what you make it, not what marijuana makes it. To get control of your depression, overcome and enjoy life. This is coming from a father who lost his 3 year old daughter in a drowning accident, so I know a lot about severe depression.

Hi! I have a diploma in fitness and health and am a certified personal trainer. I took an exercise physiology course and learned that smoking cigarettes causes the aveoli (little sacs in the lungs that hold oxygen) with mucous. This makes gas exchange (co2 out and o2 in) less effecient. I think that pot would also fill the aveoli with mucous, though this was not discussed in class. Having a decreased ability to exchange gases at the lungs will definately effect your aerobic system, as it requires oxygen to function. Though if you are performing low reps, you are using largely your anerobic energy systems, you still use your aerobic system a little. So I can definately say that if pot fills parts of your lungs with mucous like cigarettes do, it will hinder your ability to perform resistance training exercies and therefore your ability to gain mass. I am aware of NO PHYSIOLOGICAL REASON that smoking pot would help you gain mass.

If you smoke only cigarettes and marijuana, these capillaries will expand and contract repeatedly, stressing them and decreasing their ability to function. You will not be as able to clear out mucus from your lungs.
This all being said, there are several risks involved when choosing to take any drug, legal or illegal. It can be psychologically addictive and, like most drugs, affects most people differently. It does increase heart rate across the board. I do not know anything regarding its long term effects on weightlifting.

When i get high in the morning, it gets me in the mood for working out. I get a better workout,more focused. I also exercise longer 30 - 45 min vs 15. Plus i am more aware of doing the exercises properly.

ive been smokeing when i wake up in the morning take 7 bonglodes than eat brakefast go to work and take 6 moor bong lodes to the dome on my lunch brake and when i get home somke atleast 3 grams than a gram b4 i go to sleep ive been doing this for 10 years and nuthing has happend to me i am not addicted to it or nuthing just like the pleasure of being high no one lison to this bs just blaze on

As mentioned before smoking weed can bring on a feeling of increased strength and whatever else. However on the whole both from my knowledge of it medically and experience with it, it is very incosistant and in the end Cannabis is a depressant.
I have had times when doing martial arts training or weight training where without doubt I have performed better, but additionally to whatever physical effects took place, alot of it may have simply been the almost manic drive of ideas that weed brings on. However when used consistantly the facts stand.
Weed lowers testosterone in males which therefore pretty much assures less muscle mass gain, you are realistically inhaling carincogens which on the whole will make your body's systems work alot less effectivley, further it demotivates many people with continual use which obviously aint too good for someone wanting to achieve weight training goals. This is not a Weed is good weed is bad discussion, to further correct the facts.
Cannibis is NOT addictive in the way that physically addictive drugs such as heroin are... it is a very complex addiction in many cases. Some people are able to smoke it on and off or consitantly all their lives with no addiction (No im not talking every day smokers). In essence though it is the same as any drug or chemical that can alter our conscience and chemical levels in the mind body, to some degree anything can become addictive and detremental.
Long story short, in my humble opinion, try it out for yourself on the odd occasion if you feel it necessary.. but in reality you will probably have much better results eating healthily, exercising regularly and of course getting whatever sleep u need. 8 hours at least is good for any male wanting to gain muscle. Anyone with a medical background feel free to correct me on any of this.

I wonder if you could show the "research" that shows that, and if it has been repeated, which might be grounds for saying it reduces testosterone.... i got incredibly strong during football season, and i worked out a good percentage of it high..... most of the time you can't lift something, its mental, you can do more, weed helps you get rid of the boundaries you set for yourself

i know when someone like me has beeing smoking marijuana every day for a few years, you have a hard time concentrating, have poor communication skills and usually are a little slow in the mind. i am wondering: if you quit or cut back big time later on, would those effects eventually dissapear. i am 15, and i will probably continue to smoke marijuana through highschool, and then cut back after that. i am wondering if it is POSSIBLE for someone to lose those effects after cutting back to mabee only on weekends for lets say 5 years?
