you can quit cold turkey..ive been smoking heavily for 20 years and just decided to stop. there is no physical dependence on marijuana, unless you are of course a cancer patient or use it for stomach problems. you just have to be a (wo)man about it and get on with your life, your dependence is definitely in your head.

I cant believe people are serious? I have been smoking weed for about a year straight as a direct result of a car accident in which I broke my neck and was in extream pain. But as with everything you eventually build a tolerance to it, So i decided to give it a week rest or so to lower my tolerance. So far i have had NO SIDE EFFECTS, true i don't each as much as i did but no sh*t that will happen when you aren't baked out of your mind. People need to stop worrying about Cannabis, if your quitting then quit because you want to not because you think its bad or its hurting you, because you will fail if you think like that. Stop being so worry-some and stupid people. Its not as bad as everyone thinks, is it really that hard to believe you can enjoy something with out dying from it? Look at the history people! Sincerely a very regular and not narrow minded stoner

so the fact that you have insomnia doesn't seem to be a symptom of physical dependency? weed is a drug and drugs are addicting lol. when the time comes there will be more studies and people will see that it is actually physically addicting. i am addicted to pot and have been smoking for 2 years now and haven't been able to stop. Sure i can stop for a couple days or a week or a month if i have a good enough reason. but they don't come that often. And you can't say you quit pot if you've smoked ever since the last time you 'quit' people. i remember believing all this c**p when i first started smoking. haha and there are still people who smoke and think it can do no harm to your body

I HAVE SMOKED WEED SINCE I WAS 15 IM NOW 40 AND ON FIRST WEEK OF BEING CLEAN, HONESTLY I CAN NOT SAY THAT I HAVE DONE MUCH RESEARCH ON THE PHYSICAL DEPENDENCY OF WEED BUT I DO KNOW HOW MY BODY FEELS AND ITS NOT NICE BUT I DO KNOW THAT ITS THAT TIME THAT I STOP . IT IS HARD AND EVEN WHEN YOUR NOT AROUND IT IT IS SO COMMON NOW THAT JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY DOES IT , EVEN PEOPLE WHO HOLD UP IMPORTANT POSSITIONS BOTH FOR WORK AND OUR COMMUNITY ARE USING IT . ME ITS A PERSONAL THING BUT I DO WANT TO STOP AND IM TRYING DAY BY DAY WEATHER ITS A MENTAL THING OR A PSYCOLOGICAL THING IM NOT SURE WHAT I DO KNOW IS THAT FOR A PERSON LIKE ME ITS A BATTLE BUT A BATTLE THAT COULD BE WON

I don't think Dr. Danco has ever gone thru withdrawals from marijuana. I have heard this claim that withdrawing from marijuana does not cause physical withdrawals. This claim is simply not true. I can claim this because I have personally experienced the withdrawals. I have been a heavy smoker for about ten years. Anytime I have stopped cold turkey the physical withdrawals are present. ie. Appetite disappears, erratic sleep, vivid nightmares, night sweats (waking up with bed soaked), cold/hot flashes, physically weak. Then you add psychological effects: irritability, depression, anxiety, etc. If this is written in medical journal, it needs to be evaluated and corrected.

Going thru the same right now. I smoked about a half oz a day, and had to quit (bummer) to become employed. Tried the whole "smoke less and less til none, and that just left me wanting more. I'm going cold turkey and all of the symptoms you described are there except sleeplessness. Ate nothing yesterday and thats the first time ever unless I was fasting. I'm pretty damn hungry but nothing sounds good. I tried to force myself to eat with no luck. Three bites, before i was not interested anymore. Other than smoking weed can i rid myself of these symptoms? Or should i smoke and eat?

So for one, For u to sit there and say there is "no' phsyical dependency for marijuana makes you sound retarded. Im not saying that to be mean but for u to close your mind to the fact that there is no phsyical effect on your body, shows me that you arent worth talking to. Think about it even milk has a phsyical effect on your body. And lets not bring up coffee.
When THC enters the body it goes to your "BRAIN". That big hard thing on top of your shoulders tells your body its every move, every thought. and you can sit there and say that for 20 yrs you were introducing this chemical into your brain and then once u quit your brain didnt ask for it? Sounds fishy! I'm not comparing weed to coke or any other drugs, and the withdrawl is nowhere near as severe but for u to say there is no phsyical symptoms.... Thats insain.
It makes me wonder if your "HEAVY" usage was very heavy at all. What a joint or two a day mids at best. I smoked about an oz a week of GOOD dro and I can say that it has effected me since i have quit cold turkey. Im moody, hungry but nothing sounds good, anxiety galore, and all in all less fun. Not saying i cant function but it does effect you phsyically. Thank you

I came to this forum hoping to find some solace (during a difficult time) in the reality that I am not alone in my pursuit of a healthier life. I came to find, however, a relentless parade of argumentative BS about the nature and legitimacy of dependency, a topic which unfortunately eludes my interest in this BS moment. The great centralization offered to us by the internet has done nothing to strengthen the promise of community support. For this and for all of you I extend my sorrows as well as my apologies, as I'm sure you understand, I'm in a bad f*****g mood.

Firstly, I was a heavy smoker for over 30 years.  I too never used to understand when people said they were physically addicted to cannabis but Ive grown wise with age and understand that everyone is different and will react differently to the withdrawl of cannabis from your system.

I was a full on hardcore smoker until about 2 years ago, by hardcore I mean I would smoke from the moment I woke up until the moment I went to sleep. That changed quite suddenly one night when I rolled a joint, had 3 puffs, put it in the ashtray. 5 minutes later I was feeling like I had drunk 2 bottles of rum, staggering all over the place, unable to walk straight or see straight. The whole experience was quite bizarre and scary. When I explained it to my friends they just laughed and said it was all in my head. After being a heavy smoker for 30 years I would think I would know when something just was not right, and I felt it that night.

I continued to smoke after that experience but I found that my tolerance was greatly reduced. I had one puff of a friends joint and it left me a dribbling mess on the sofa. I thought this was great cause the cost of my habit had reduced greatly overnight for what reason I dont know but it was all good.

I still continued smoking weed, getting stoned off a couple of puffs until about 1 month ago. I started to realize that I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I just didn't enjoy the feeling of being stoned anymore, so I stopped.

I never suffered insomnia but I was very irritable and my concentration was greatly reduced during the initial withdrawl. 1 month down the line I still suffer these problems as well as hot flushes and uncontrollable sweating. Those issues aside I do feel great and stopping was definitely the best thing for me to do especially as I was not enjoying it anymore. I went cold turkey but believe it or not I found it easier to stop when I had a bag of weed sat in my draw. Its still there now and I see it every day but there is absolutely no temptation to smoke it.

To sum it all up I now see that night 2 years ago as my body telling me enough is enough. I don't preach to smokers that they should give up, many of my friends are still smokers and I do still enjoy the sweet aroma of some grade A piff. Each to their own is what I say, live and let live. But if you feel inside yourself that you want to stop do so. Don't listen to all the rubbish posted on the internet about cannabis and its effects because its all rubbish and irrelevant.

What is relevant is how you think and feel about it all. We are all individuals and react differently to different things. 

One thing I would say is if you suffer symptoms of a physical addiction after quitting or think you suffer those symptoms then I would suggest that quitting was a good thing.

I usually only smoke for about 4 months at a time then 4 months off because I like the fresh high, But if you think about it the reason why your body goes goes through that is because your body will stop producing the chemicals you get through smoking causing your body to freak out. If you don't want the symptoms don't smoke that much everything has a limit which you shouldn't abuse. ( this way you will never have to worry about withdraws, but you have to be in control to do so )

If you have the willpower to only smoke a few times a day I would suggest doing so for about 2 weeks then after that smoke once a day for a week, In doing so you will let your body balance itself out chemically and will feel hot flashes for about two nights but that's all. The problem with this is not many people can withstand this but it works, I also had a time in my life when I smoked heavily and this method has always worked for me. The severe method of quitting cold turkey is always so much more miserable, Hope this helps

I have smoked weed more or less daily for almost 10 years and have from time to time gone 10 or so days without. After 5 or so I had flu like symptoms, body ache, headache, and a total loss of appetite. I would perhaps agree that cannibis as a plant is not addictive, but the chemicals added to it these days (which unless you know your source or grow it yourself you are likely exposed to) are likely physically addictive. I do think the biggest hurdle to quitting is changing habits or figuring out something else to do when you're bored or just hanging out. I am going to quit because I have some anxiety and weed distracts me from dealing with it and moving forward. I use it for fun, but also as a crutch.

i have been smokin for about 6 years now, i have all the similar problems as these guys the most common is loss of sleep. i find that just not doing it is the best way to quit. and you will only quit if you really want to give up, there is no point in having a little bit because ur body goes into shock without you realising. cannibis is completly phschological

I think that in a way the upthrust of any withdrawals or any sort of addiction could be said to be psychological., regardless of physiological affects. I have been a daily but very light smoker. A small amount would last me forever. I have quit for a few days now. On occasion certain situations trigger the thought of lighting up so there is that instant of self denial but yeah it is not as intense as, say, tobacco addiction.

I've been a daily smoker for several years.  I'm very seldom out of smoke, but have been for a couple of days, insomnia?????Think I slept for 18 hrs yesterday, and this has been the case anytime i'm out of weed.
