Yes I have also had Mirena for about 7 months. I (usually on a daily basis at one point or another throughout the day) think I smell an odor. I'm almost positive it is caused from Mirena because I ahve never had this before. Did you take it out? Will that fix the problem? No one has ever said anything to me (thank god), but if I can smell it, so can they right?

I've had mirena for over 2 years now, and I love it! I love the fact that I get no period, just a day of spotting a month.... The only bad things I can say is that only twice in the past 2 yrs, after sex I got horrible cramps, extremely horrible so I couldnt move. I have to say these 2 times were after aggressive sex, so I don't blame the product. But they only lasted about 15 minutes, and felt better after applying a heating pad. The first time I went to the doc and she checked and said everything was fine, and that it probably shifted. Like others are saying I do feel lazy, unable to focus, moody, depressed, and a little crazy towards my bf. I'm not sure if it's just me or the mirena. I do have a history of overreacting and acting crazy at times, but if the mirena is making this worse I would love to have something to blame it on.... I don't know it might just be me and I dont want to give up having no periods and not getting pregnant!

i had a merina. got pregnant with it in and it traveled through my uterus and out. it ended up up under one of my ribs. this was the most painful experience of my life. its been 2 yeaars since i had ellie and had the merina sergicaly removed. i have been in pain ever since and until others have this happen no lawyer will help me. if you have this still in you i still in you i strongly recomend getting it out. no one should have to go through what i did. my little girl is at high risk for cancer due to the mant ct,mri, and xrays that were done while being pregnant.at this point it doesnt suprise me that your doctor didnt know what happened to me. it was kept very hush hush. my own obgyn still puts them in other woman and this makes me so angry. please be careful

Thank you so much for this post! I have had my mirena for a little over a year and I have just started to experience severe anxiety attacks. I drive 6 hours once per week for my job, and I have started having attacks while driving, so severe that I have to pull over. A week ago I was put on Xanax. I previously had heart problems, so I was really freaking out. I felt, quite frankly - until just a moment ago - like I was dying. I have been on 2 very strong beta blockers for an unrelated heart problems, and now these are not working. I have headaches, suffer from insomnia, and have had an overall lack of energy that I did not have previously. Not to mention the weight gain. I work out 3-4 days per week, eat a high Protien-low carb diet, and still have trouble with extra weight around my mid section. I read in another blog that the weight around my belly is because mirena tricks your body into believing you are pregnant. You gain weight around your belly in order to protect the baby.

Thank you again for telling me about your story. I will be making an appointment to have my mirena removed next week. I am VERY afraid of the mirena crash, and I'm not happy about having heavy periods again, but I can not live like this. Mirena is the worst thing that has ever happened to me, and I've had 2 open heart surgeries (unrelated).

I have had the Mirena for alomst 5 years. The 1st year i had it, i got really bad headaches almost everyday. Excedrin helped. After a year the headaches stoped.I have not had a period since I got it put in. (dont know if thats good for your body) I have mood swings every month still. Not like depression, its directed more tord my husband, i can time my moods. The first part of the month i cant be without him. I miss him all the time, even if were apart for a few hours. Sex all the time. Than when i get further into the month i cant stand to be around him. Everything he says and does gets on my nerves. Dont want him to touch me. Also, I forget everything now. I feel like im in a hase. It makes me feel dumb. I forget how to spell things and math. I forget dates and appointments all the time. I have to write everything down. Also, acne. I am young, but I never had acne all that bad before the IUD. I thought it was the food i was eating at first. So i went on a diet, no sugar, no sodas, no bread. Thought it was working, acne went away. (leaving scars) Than it came back. I am still on my diet but the acne comes back on and off through the month. guess its a PMS thing. Really frustrating. I have also experienced a lack of energy. I think that was more at the the first few years, because I seem to have got some of it back now. Or maybe its because I started going to the gym. Idk. Well, like i said, Ive had the Mirena for almost 5 years. Ill be getting it removed soon. I cant wait to see how I ack afterward. Having it for so long, i cant remember how i was before it.

I'm about to be 20 years old and I can't remember to take my pill every day and I'm scared of getting pregnant. I made a appointment to get mirena iud so a unwanted pregnacy won't happen. Does anyone have anything good to say about it?

UPDATE: I had my Mirena IUD removed 2 weeks ago Friday. I IMMEDIATELY saw and felt a change, like a fog was lifted from my head. I have more energy and don't feel sleepy an fatigued all the time, like undid while it was in. I am still taking meds for anxiety, but I expect that over time, as the hormones leave my body, I will be able to ditch those. I take a daily anti anxiety med and one day I forgot to take it...believe me, I know for sure it's not time to stop taking them just yet. Again, I NEVER, EVER had panic attacks or anxiety prior to having the Mirena. Right now, I am experiencing The Crash, and IT. IS. HELL. Blood literally gushes out of my body 24 hours a day. It has been 12 days so far. I am bleeding through an ULTRA TAMPON (the maximum absorbency) AND an overnight maxi in less than an hour. Actually, I have to clean up about every 20-30 minutes or there will be extremely messy "accidents". What's worse, the bleeding is accompanied by huge clots. It feels like having several miscarriages in a day. When I wet through an entire box of 36 ultra tampons and overnight pads in a span of 5 days, I got scared and went to the ER. The doctor told me that this is NORMAL when coming off Mirena. This is one of the scariest things I have had to deal with. I am one of those women who LOVED the Mirrna when I first got it. No periods, spontaneous sex, not having to think about a pill. But your body will PUNISH you for having this device. PLEASE make sure you PAY ATTENTION to your body. Don't dismiss your forgetfulness, moodiness, abdomen pain, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety. I warn you, the CRASH is very real, but it's worth it to get your life back. It's like breaking up with a person who is a bad fit for you: even if you've gotten used to them and it will hurt for you to let them go, it's better for you in the long run!

I have had my IUD for 2 months. Im tired all the time, have no energy. I went to my doctor last week telling him i feel as though i am menapausing. I told him i get night sweats, hot flash's,im itchy, mood swings, irratibility, no period since my 2nd surgery for endrometriosis witch was back in september 2011. My 3rd surgery was in january for the same thing, and putting the IUD in. I recently went to my gyno telling her the same sympotoms. I went to my doctor asking him to do blood work, for checking my hormones, cause my gyno said my overies could be failing, and not working any more. So not only i maybe menapausing at 32yrs old,but having symptoms of the IUD. Its been very frustrating for the last 7 months, adding the additonal issues. If this test comes back fine,im going to get this IUD removed. And if i am menapausing whats the point of having this in me. I truly believe my gyno totally screwed me over. And should have done a hystorectomy, instead of making me suffer like this. Its such a shame.

Hi Andrea i do understand what you are saying , these dr and gyno dont know how our bodies are feeling . Pls dont have that Hystorectomy unless you have checked out all facts .im 48 and i am going through menopause , oh man i hate it . but at least im not bleeding anymore. get rid of that IUD and if you have the money look up NOVA SURE . thats sounds better .  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
