hi do you think my stomach problems are because of Marina i u d i have pain on my right Side and abdominal pain upside stomach ?
I am experiencing the same symptoms. I feel like I am crazy, because I have never had anxiety before. I have had the Mirena for 2 years now, and am just now realizing that this could be the cause. I am having it taken out in a few weeks. How long will it be until I feel "normal" (if there is such a thing) again? Can you also explain the Mirena crash?
I can relate to this except I've had a lot of problems, especially more recently but I'll post about that further down the forum. I just wanted to let you know I can relate to the strange odor. My IUD was put in September 2008. I can't remember when but I noticed I can smell myself and I feel like other people can smell it too. Whether they can or not, I do not know. Showering doesn't seem to help. I practice personal hygeine and I realize the difference between the natural scent of my vagina and this peculiar odor. I notice it pretty often and it's a distinct smell, unchanging. I can do laundry, shower, and put on a clean pair of panties I've worn before and still a faint trace of the smell. I pray I'm the only person who can smell it. The random spotting/discharge ruins almost every single pair of panties I buy. I no longer waste money on light colored panties. I might as well buy black or red or dark purple, anything that won't show spotting stains. I spoke to my gynecologist about it at my last yearly pap appointment, she said she didn't notice anything unusual but it could be because of menstruation. It's not just when I'm on my period though. Also, I checked to try and find my strings recently and can't. Pretty scary.
I'm also a normal 22 year old college student, I've had my Mirena for four years now. The first two weren't bad, except for the extreme cramping and random and unpredictable spotting.. both of which were described in the pamphlet I was given. In the last two years, I've always been small, very active but I've gained 20 lbs I can't take off regardless of diet and exercise. At times I'm so nauseous I simply can't eat. I've started experiencing debilitating migraines that cause temporary blindness (which I've never had before), my anxiety has increased to the point I have extreme panic attacks and am about to lose my job, my sex drive is nearly nonexistent, I've also noticed the odd odor others describe and I've been having mood swings and depression. I am not an older woman going through "the change", I'm a (normally) perfectly healthy young woman who isn't planning for children in the near future as you describe. This birth control was ideal for me at first. With that being said, I've been examined by my gynecologist, my primary care physician, neurologists, ophthalmoloigists, and gastrointestinal specialists. There is nothing physically wrong with me, the things that seem to be wrong with me now began after the device was placed and I find it mighty convenient all these women experience the exact same symptoms I'm going through. I'm happy it's perfect for you thus far, but mine was too for about 2 years. All of the symptoms listed are symptoms of hormonal imbalance. For me, it's just not worth it. It's affecting my quality of life. I've scheduled to have it removed July 9th. Good luck with yours.

I have had Mirena now for a year and 3 months. For the past 3 months, I have been having extreme hormonal fluctuations. I have been feeling a lot of anxiety, fatigue, and paranoid delusions that I am alone and no one loves me. The sane person outside of my body knows that it isn't real, but I began noticing it happens every 4 weeks or so. I am desperate to find answers! Could it be the Mirena?
Hi, I had the Mirena installed 3 weeks ago and I went to my Dr today and demanded it to be removed. I have been on a rollercoaster ride of depression, nausea, panic attacks, and crying for the past 2 weeks and I actually started to think I was going crazy. I asked my Dr and he said a much higher percentage of woman have a hormone imbalance from the Mirena than the company will tell you about, I recommend if your not feeling like you usually do after taking Mirena than have it immediately removed just demand your Dr to do straight away.
Hello Everyone. I had my IUD in for one year. I am 20 years old so obviously my symptoms were not caused by menopause. I would just like to share my mirena nightmare. The insurtion was not very bad I had mild cramping. I had my baby about 3 months before so I was prepared for a good form of birth control that would allow me to spend time with my child as well as be responsible. I had sever bleeding for about two weeks straight after the insertion. After that I had a period every two weeks for the next year. I began to get an infection about once a month. Sometimes I would experience sever pain and other times I had discharge that smelled. I began to loose my sex drive, have migraines, loss of hair, weight gain, acne, and so many more symptoms. At first I thought it was my body adjusting, but after speaking with friends who also had the mirena I began to realize that it wasn't just me. Towards the end of the year mark of having my IUD I began to bleed nonstop. If I tried to lift anything I would start to gush blood uncontrollably. I also began to lose the ability to hold my urine. It was truely a nightmare. I finally went to the obgyn to have it removed. As the doctor was preparing to remove it, she realized that it was trying to fall out and in the process had began to grow crooked into the side of my uterine wall. She removed it which caused me sever pain because she had to pull it out of my uterine wall. I was then put on the pill. Since I have had it removed I have not had any of my previous symptoms. I have not been depressed, not had mood swings, no acne, No infections, my bleeding is regular again, I am able to hold my urine, I have a sex drive again, ect. I hope that my story will help others to understand that you are not alone! But also understand that not everyone's body will react the same! I hope everyone who has it will have a better experience than I did!
