I am a pretty healthy 41 year old, very active & not over weight. I had my gallbladder removed by laproscopy October 2011, right before Halloween because the HIDA Scan showed it to be a "non-functioning" gallbladder, which was causing all of my discomfort. Let me first say that I had a WONDERFUL surgeon and she did a fantastic job. She took great care of me and I hardly have any scars at all, very tiny. BUT....since my surgery I have had bouts of tenderness in my right side, sort of a pressure feeling where my liver is located & under that, that comes and goes....sort of aches, feels irritated/inflamed?, as well as all of the other "good stuff", running to the bathroom after meals, lots of indigestion, burping ( which I hardly ever did before ) some bloating after meals, etc... I went back to my surgeon, she said it sounded like it could be musculoskelatal ( from the tiny holes that were cut through the abdomen during surgery ), and for me to give it 6 months.... well, I did, and nothing changed...l went to a gastroenterologist, had a CT Scan done which showed a little irritation where my large & small intestine meet. She said it could be from the excess of bile that my body was not use to having, IBS, lactose intolerance or gluten issues. Wanted to run lots of tests... including a colonoscopy, which with being SO frustrated, I declined the additional testing for now. Its now September, and I still have the tenderness, pressure, lower back pain that comes and goes, along with all of the other persistent issues. Is there ever any relief???? ANY INFORMATION that anyone can give would be GREAT! Very Frustrated.
Hey all! My story is much the same as many of yours. "Top 5 worst gallbladders of my career" said the surgeon. Gave me a vial full of nasty stones - some the size of my kids marbles! 4 months down the road, and I'm thinking my liver is swollen or something.
I am set on trying a liver cleanse. My sister just did a liver/gb cleanse and passed hundreds of stones...I'm out to see if these stones are plugging up my liver as well. I'm a busy mom & have SO many other things to be concerned with! I should mention that my surgeon said the liver does not produce these stones. This book says the complete opposite. The proof will be some sweet relief, I hope!
Cheers!
Remember guys we don't have a place for the liver to store the bile it makes to help with the bad food. A lot people got gallstones because of their diet and heriditary. I did, it was my poor diet and the fact that it runs in my family. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I have noticed that when I eat bad food, I get the attacks. When I'm eating healthy, I am doing fine. I had my emergency gallstone removal surgery Feb 2012 and it wasn't until late Sept 2012 that I started getting pains. I know why too, I was getting comfortable eatting greasy, oily, super spiced food.
Wow! I had no idea how many other people have felt the way I have. Here's my story and so far it seems to have a happy ending. I was having the pains all down my right side that wrapped around my back and finally had an ultrasound booked and had come to find out my gallbladder was "full of stones". There were too many to count. I didn't have attacks often but when I did I was in agony and did find it hard to breath and sometimes had what seemed like a lot of pressure and sharp shooting pain in the middle of my abdomen. It was horrible! I had my consult with a surgeon at the end of January's 2012 and arranged to have my surgery at the end of February. A week later I was in the ER have tests and another ultrasound done because I was having bad attacks that were lasting upwards of almost 24hrs and then some. They occurred after I had eaten every time regardless of what I ate. The ultrasound showed there were stones in the duct and I had a ERCP and had 2 stones removed. I went home feeling pretty great and was told to keep my meals light for the next couple of days and ease back in to things. By dinner time that same day I was back in the ER with a new pain right in the upper centre part of my abdomen and was puking up all this green stuff. After some more blood work and being hooked up for IV fluids and some serious doses of pain medication I was admitted hospital with pancreatitis. I ended up having to stay for 5 days until my lipase was at an acceptable level for me to go home. A week and a half later I had my gallbladder surgery. I was great again after that and had my follow up and everything healed up nicely and back to work I went after 9 weeks from when it all started with the stones in the duct. I had such a long recovery time cause I had a chance-section one year earlier and my gallbladder was still fairly swollen and found out afterwards from my Dr. that he had continplated having to cut me right open. I was so glad it never came to that. A few months went by of feeling so good and like a normal person again and then it all came back. The trips to the ER and being told it was phantom pains and have clear bloodwork, x-rays, and ultrasounds. I was starting think it was all in my head but it couldn't be if I was really feeling that bad again there had to be an answer for it. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and after being told I was lactose intolerant and having like 6 different ultrasounds showing nothing and just as many if not more bloodwork work ups and a couple of complete abdominal x-rays my bloodwork was finally high enough and a tech at the hospital finally notice the duct was enlarged that someone finally actually listen because now I had test results to finally back up my complaints. I saw the same Dr that had done my previous ERCP and had one the next morning. It has now been two weeks and I feel like a new person again. There were 3 stones sitting in the duct and I guess finally large enough to start cause some noise again in my lab work. I found I am not lactose intolerant. Thank god cause I was missing my dairy big time and it seems that was what was triggering my attacks. Anyways I'm hoping this is the end of it. I have follow up at the beginning of December and I'm hoping to still be feeling just as good! I have to say keep at it to everyone who's still having problems. It sucks when you feel like no one believes you but you have to keep at them! I wish you all luck and hope you finally get your answers.
im a 26 yr old male, i had my gall bladder removed in 2010 and in the last 6 months have been expieriencing pains very similar to the attacks and almost as painfull though it only lasts atmost for about 45minutes, but it is still very concerning. so i dont know what to say other then i am feeling it too
Hi
I had my Gallbladder removed 4 years ago and I still have problems now, when I had the operation they only removed the Gallbladder and not the bail duct, the Gallbladder was attached to my liver which at to be cut away so i was ill after the op, took me weeks to get over it.
Then I was rushed in hospital last night with the same pains has i had before my op. Now the are saying there is a stone stuck in my bail duct which they should of sealed when i had the op.
I think it causes more problems when the Gallbladder is removed. Now I am just waiting for a MRI scan appointment to come through. There's a 4 weeks waiting list for it. :(
Coincidentally, I am also a 48-year-old female who had my gallbladder removed about 18 months ago. I have had three of these painful, REALLY PAINFUL attacks since my surgery. I went to the emergency room for the first one. They couldn't tell me the cause. I wish I could tell you all the cause but I still don't know. Obviously, this is a common problem that the doctors are not telling us about. My mom had the surgery when she was 65 (15 years ago). She swears she hasn't had any problem since.
They found mine by ultrasound. Mind you it hurt like crazy because the tech was trying to maneuver it to see the opening of the bile duct and she did it. I ended up having them removed the next day. Hope you get your scan sooner than later.
