Teree: I have just started to experience these terrifying spasms in my inner thigh. The pain is completely off the charts and undescribable. The first time it happened, the spasms felt like hot , electric worms jumping around under my skin. I sobbed in fear more than from pain because the spasm and pain were so unnatural. I have a high tolerance for pain, but when this spasm hits, screaming isn't enough. I believe i have found a solution. Unless it is a coincidence, this has worked for me the three times it has happened. The first time I did this, it was because I thought it was a blood clot, so I CHEWED four aspirin tablets...swallowed that paste and then washed it down with one or two gulps of water. The spasm stopped immediately. I did this the last two times it occurred, and it worked both times. Now I keep a bottle of aspirin at my bedside table. I hope this will help you as well.

I too have been experiencing Inner Thigh Muscle spasm for the past year and a half.  I was interested to see that there are others

who experience this pain.   I rate the pain a 10 on the scale of 0-10.  I try to walk them off,  I don't know what else to do.  I have figured out that this spasm has to do with my lower back.   They usually come on when I am in a sitting position, or lying in bed.   A Chiropracter

once told me it was called something like "Seamstress Syndrome"   Because  back in the days when they had sweat shops,  the  ladies

who were spending so many hours in the sitting position would experience them.  Poor Ladies!  Painful, painful.    G.G.

My pain doc put me on magnesium oxide 40 mg--1 a day at the beginning of May--have had just one small, fast one since then. Nothing compared to the horrific spasms before. Have another car trip of 6 hours coming up---that will be the real test. Always happens out on a freeway!!!!

I am glad  I came across this site as I think by reading eveyones situation and comparing it to my own, I think I may have a solution for me.

I am 42 yrs old, the last 8 years I have been deployed overseas, Middle East and such.

Over here there is no frsh milk. The mil we have is fake, so is the cheese. It is designed to be able to sit in 120 degree heat and not spoil, I call it synthetic milk with a lovely viscocity to it.

I sit at the computer 10 to 12 hour days and other days I am humping geat in 120 degree heat.

I get plenty of water, and have been drinking tonic water, or bitter lemon or Indian Tonic. They are sold at most every base and has quinine in it.

I never salt my food. Never ever. When I was a teen I learned to live without it, and when I wwas told I needed it I was in Iraq drinking tons of salinated water. So still, there was no need tosalt my food.

I am in Afghanistan now, and we have made our own water bottling plant that is not salinated. And I still cant bring myself to ssalt my food.

I gather I am at this point now, I lack B vitamin, dairy and salt. I will do my best in this austere environment to do all three and report back to see if it helps.

My inner thigh cramps began when living in Kuwait, I tell ya it was HARD to writh on the floor in pain and not disturb the other 18 women in the tent with me. It is HARD to struggle to loosen the muscle without crying, without drawing attention to myself etc.

I have noticed, the moment cold air hits my legs they seize up, but certainly modifying my diet may prevent this.

Thank goodness for all of your posts!  Last Christmas the pain was so great I passed out in my bedroom hit my head on the dresser and was rushed to the hospital. I have had three episodes so far and all have made me faint. I know now that massaging my leg and making sure  I elevate both legs help me to avoid fainting. Now what was common in all the episodes was possible dehydration and sleeping on my left side which may be constricting blood flow to the muscle. I am going to try Gatorade befor going to bed and see if that helps. My prayers to all of us who have this since it is the worst pain I have ever experienced.

i get these too and my doctor gave me excercises but the excercises she gave me have to do with bending my knees and this is how they start, so I'm not sure what it is easier and pain meds upset my stomach.

I have just gotten back from my neurologist...the inner thigh pain is linked to the sciatica.....after a nerve test and mri, found my nerve pinched just above my tailbone...deep tissue massage and acupunture has been the answer for me..stimulating the muscle around the nerve and releasing it, no more spasms.... as well as valium, one of the greatest muscle relaxers.  hope you all find your answers

i feel ur pain...i get those too. especially during sex....my husband says i turn into the exorcist when i get the tearing feeling of those cramps. nothing has worked for me either.

It is.12:15 in the morning n I found this online because I been attacked by these "cramps" also. Its always on the inside of my right thigh near my knee all the way up to my pelvic bone. I just went to see my doc last week n nothing is abnormal except my vit d levels are a lil low. she also doesnt know how or why they pop up.

I too suffer from this type of excruciating muscular spasm - especially after I have exercized and sweated a lot. People tell me it is due to loss of minerals, and I have started taking magnesium tablets before and after strenuous exercize. I think they help in preventing these cramps.

Wow..  I am 49 have had terrible lumbar pain and spasms in abs, inner thigh, calfs.. u name it.  extreme pain to the point one side of my stomach is completely distorted like when your fingers cramp and you can't get them back into place.  I use to use vitamin B complex, B6 and B12.  from the discussion above i will try the B's once again.. What can it hurt?   This all started with stomach problems and vommiting once a week almost on schedule for over a year.   Thank god that has subsided. No Doctors or expert gastro Doctors had anyidea what was wrong.  I think I had over 10 different test ran.   But now it's the skin rash and Muscle spasms.   What's next?  lol

I'VE FOUND SOMETHING THAT FINALLY HELPS -- This was taught me by a rolfer who is an 8th degree black belt. As a sufferer of this disorder, I am grateful to Bjorn for teaching me that a cramp will be negated if the muscle is used in opposition.

Thus, when I get one of these.. the only thing that MAY work is ie: If the RIGHT inner thigh is spasming -- The objective is to use that muscle to push LEFT.. The LEFT inner thigh should push RIGHT.

Sometimes, I'll use a wall or piece of heavy furniture, lift the spasming leg up a bit and do my best to use my inner thigh to push inwards (Think Suzanne Somers ThighMaster, which I am now actually entertaining the idea of getting -- Because using a piece of furniture or wall to relieve the spasm, is challenging, to say the least).

It's the ONLY thing that has helped.

I will DEFINITELY try this. He is right, you have to stretch the muscle to relive the cramp. But this particular muscle is so incredibly painful! The way you stretch/ extend that muscle is also to stand perfectly straght, but my only relief is to double over. I am back in Afghanistan, the weather is changing and will be cool soon. Meaning more inner though cramps. I will try this and report back.

If it's not magnesium or electrolytes then it is most likely a nerve being pinched or something along those lines. It sounds like the Iliopsoas muscle that is giving you grief. If you focus on strengthening and toning the muscles in your hip and back in order to correct any weakness this should help. A good quality supportive bed and you should look into the ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE and get I am a little sceptical about this one but it's common practice amongst physiotherapists. I have only just began studying it's art. Applied Kinesiology. which focuses on fixing imbalances within muscle groups and preventing spasm.
