Hi there,
I had THD done March 19, Thursday. Today is March 24, Tuesday. Tenesmus is the biggest issue I have at this point. I get a strong spasm every 1-2 hours and I HAVE to go to the bathroom, sit on the toilet and see if anything happens. It doesn't, but the painful spasms continue for a few more minutes. Then I get into a hot tub, and slowly this attack subsides. It's very frustrating, because I'd be feeling okay for an hour, thinking that I'm finally getting better, but then it strikes again and I come out of the bathroom crawling, sweaty and exhausted. And that's without even having a BM! Passing gas is surprisingly painful too! Geez, you eat all that finer they tell you to eat, but then every fart is a tiny torture!
I had two BMs so far, and they hurt like a MoFo... They weren't hard, but still very painful and I needed a Vicodin after each one.
Did anybody figure out a way to fight these painful urges? I asked my doctor for some kind of a muscle relaxant or smth, but she told me to keep taking ibuprofen to bring down the inflammation. Once the inflammation is gone, the spasms should stop.
I have a one year old daughter (the reason I got the hemmies in the first place), and I haven't seen her in. 6 days. Because I'm hiding in the bedroom, stuck between the bed and the bathroom. I just want to feel better so I can spend time with her again and give my is and a break!
I am scheduled to have the THD procedure on April 10. I have grade 3 hemorrhoids that prolapse but do not bleed. I have had many sessions of banding that did not work. I am told other than a traditonal surgery, this is my only option, other than to live with them.
For those of you who have had THD, would you do it again? After reading all of the posts and stories on the internet, I am very close to cancelling.
Thank you in advance for any response.
Hi, it's me again, from March 19th procedure. Today is one week since I had it and I definitely turned the corner yesterday. I am feeling a thousand times better than 2 days ago when I wrote my post above.
Oddly, relief seemed to come last night after I had one of the usual "ass spasms" as someone on here referred to them, rushed to the bathroom, and as soon as I landed on the toilet, a huge amount of blood just poured out of me. It was dark (old) blood, and some stool and other stuff too. It looked super gory, but it almost didn't hurt and I felt better immediately. I wonder if that was some old, "original" blood stuck up there that was holding things up, since I hardly bled at all since having the procedure.
Since then I've had multiple BMs, all soft an not too big or painful. The number of ass spasms has gone down a lot too. I see light at the end of the tunnel!
I have been adding fibre powder (2 teaspoons) to each water bottle I drink (about 4/day) and yesterday morning I started eating activia yogurt. Wonder if that's had any impact on the progression of things. I'm still eating lightly, as I'm prone to constipation and I do not want that right now.
Good luck to everyone!
My 90 year old mama is going to have this done in the morning. It's funny, but we're almost doing the same thing! Fleet enema the night before, get up at 5:30, then another Fleet enema at 5:45am, leave at 7:45 to go to the hospital, get there at 8:30, procedure done at 10:30 am! Your long and very informative post gave me great encouragement for her. She's had severe 'roids for many years inside AND outside (which protrude) and we haven't wanted surgery for her at her age. She had some banded, but a specialist recommended this THD procedure. Boy, the YouTube videos on this are pretty graphic in some, but do appear to be pretty effective. I was curious to know if they gave you any other type of diet to go by, after the surgery? You say you could eat anything? I would have thought that they would have said a soft diet....
Well anyway, THANK you for your great post!
I suffered because of piles for years and I found the only real solution in THD/HALO surgery. It's an important choice but the definitive, as far as my experience is concerned.

Thanks for the informaion. getting THD next week.
When can you go back to the gym???
My Dr gave me an rx for 75 perocets. I took zero. Yes it was uncomfortable. But no super crazy pain. Not even a Tylenol.
My Dr teaches this at Cedars Sinai in LA. Make sure you are in good shape and find someone that does this a lot. Sounds like for doctors that are new too this the results can be far worse.
Thank you guys, there is a lot of encouragement here for a person like me who was so embarrassed to go to the doctor in the first place.
Ok, I finally figured out how to subscribe. It was easy and I feel stupid now.
Anyways, I learned that I was going overboard with the stool softeners and laxatives. The Percocet made me constipated and I was so afraid of passing that so I stopped taking the Percocet, as there was never much pain anyways, and started taking the softeners and laxatives at there max doses. That is why I kept having little accidents throughout the day.
The doctor said swelling may take some time to go down and I may confuse some swelling for hemroids, how long did it take for your guys swelling to completely go away?
Thank you!!
