I too had the surgery about 8 weeks ago. i had all of them removed from the inside and outside. I have never been in so much pain. 6 days after surgery my bm wis so hard it opened up the wounds on the inside and i was lossing around 3 cup worth of blood per hour for almost 24 hours. after getting out of the hospital again the pain and trouble with having a bm continued. I had stayed in contact with the Dr office a few time per week talking to the nurse. She just kept telling me to take mor laxitve and softners and use ice packs anf warm baths for the swelling. well I went to see the dr yesterday and I have to go through the dilation surgy next week. it cant make it much worse so I am hoping for the best. I hurt so bad having or trying a and thats kind of how the bm feels with the nmb I would rather go thourgh child (and that how it feels). I have no answers and and I am tird of being in pain.
Hello,
I had a hemorrhoidectomy a little over 9 weeks ago for 4 internal and 3 external using a scalpel. My surgeon said the procedure was necessary and to be performed immediately due to a presumed abscess that he did not end up finding. The post-op recovery for the first two weeks was excruciating beyond words. After 3 weeks passed the pain became manageable and I stopped pain medication. I have been drinking Miralax every day, eating high fiber foods, avoiding straining, daily sitz baths, and plenty of water. I have also been careful not to exert any unneeded physical activity (such as taking elevators rather than stairs).
Before surgery, my surgeon told me recovery would be one week. Now...after my 4th follow-up visit today (9 weeks post-op) I still have one painful, slightly swollen lymph node that he refuses to acknowledge. My primary care doctor suggested that the swollen lymph node is related to the surgery, but my surgeon said that is incorrect.
I am still in pain during each bowel movements, which are regular and soft and the pain continues for usually around 2 hrs after. Today was his first attempt at an internal exam, but the pain was too severe. He said that my stools are still more narrow than usual because I have a small sphincter. He did not mention stenosis and after asking several times he assured me that I am healed on the outside and the pain is due to my small sphincter, not improper healing. He prescribed hydrocortisone suppositories that I am to use after each bowel movement to help with the pain.
The next step is to see him in a month. If he is still unable to give me an internal exam in his office, he wants to send me back to the hospital to go under anesthesia.
My major concern is that my surgeon is not suggesting the proper treatment or ignoring a problem that may get worse. It worries me that I am still in pain after this long and would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. My surgeon is very curt with his replies to my questions and I am in desperate need of some feedback.
Thanks.
I had the hemorrhoid removed using stapler method (PPH) 2 months ago. During the first month I had bowel movement 8-9 times a day. Doctor said I was allergy to the antibiotic so he asked me to stop taking it. But it doesn't help at all.
3 weeks ago I have difficulty in pushing out the stool during bowel movement so I thought I had constipation. Went to clinic nearby and doctor gave me some syrup which to soften the stool.
2 weeks ago, in the morning, my stomach was very very pain that I think I developed diarrhea. I sat in the toilet bowl for one hour but the stool still can't be pushed out. I was so painful and suffered. My friend then sent me to hospital and my doctor said my anus is getting smaller. He then did the anus dilatation for me. After the dilatation everything goes well but the stool was getting thinner day by day but the situation was not that bad, for me.
7 days later after the dilatation, I went back hospital for check up. Doctor said my anus is getting smaller again which he want to use the dilator to push into my anus, but the anus ring was too small and it was super pain. He suggest me to go for another dilation surgery which I've rejected. Therefore he anesthetized me and did the dilatation for me, again. Doctor loaned me the anus dilator and I need to dilate myself 3 times a day, it's already the 4th day I am dilating myself. It's a little bit pain though. Doctor said I can lower down the frequency to 2 times a day, once a day then slowly alternate days for one year.
I am now very stress mentally. Have to worry the size of stool and is the anus ring going to shrink again? I hope I don't need to undergo another surgery anymore :(
Thanks for this info. My question is... is your anus OK? I mean, it closes back up after you go to the bathroom or its stretched out always? Also, is it easy to clean up or there is lose skin in the anus which makes it difficult?
Thanks
tight arse . I too have anal stenosis following hemorriodectomy. An experts opinion tells me the risk is very small following the opp.But from the comments posted on this site ,i would say the chance of finding an expert is rarer.I have been dilating now for nearly three years and still passing stools the thickness of my dilator .Max18mm. that is when i can go. its like trying to push a tennis ball out.I have every sympathy.
He did offer anoplasty as another course of treatment. They cut part of the scar tissue out and then take skin and tissue from your butt cheek to replace it. I asked how rare the complications (of fecal incontinence) are, and he said very rare. I said that since getting stenosis after hemorrhoid surgery was unlikely and yet I got it anyway, it makes me more worried about these low-percentage complications.
It is atrocious that the doctors are not doing their duty in preventing the obvious complication of hemorrhoidectomy, which is anal stenosis or narrowing of the anal canal... and instead are blaming it on the patients and putting them through yet another surgery - surgical dilatation of anus!!
What they should actually do is to perform manual (finger) dilatation of the anal canal once a week for at least 6 weeks post surgery, and also advice the patient to do it daily, so as to prevent scar tissue formation and narrowing of the anal canal.
Next time, sue the doctors who are so callous as to put their patients through unwanted torture of such embarrassing nature..........
Yes patients, know your rights. and get educated..........
Hi, I had the surgery last October, view my posts the problems post op I had were horrific. I also had narrowing and was told I would need immediate surgery to rectify it. However I couldn't put myself through any further pain so I delayed it. I started to eat a lot of flaxseed, I cant eat too much fibre as it doesn't agree with me. The super food kept me regular and slowly over the following months I seem to be coping well. Although initially my stools were pencil sized I now find they are much bigger. Not as they used to be but certainly don't need surgery now as long as I don't get constipated. Don't rush into any surgery try and persevere and see what happens.
If you have problem passing motion, eat a lot of vegetables. By a lot I means, eat as much as you can.
I know it all depends on your sex, age, how much exercise you do daily, but normally we do not eat enough.
