Impatient in Houston. You sound exactly like me. I am going on 5 weeks post-op. I had nausea for a month prior to the surgery, which was my only symptom. ultrasound showed gallstones and thickened walls. Two days after removal, same type of nausea came back. It's worse in the mornings, but usually have some nauseous feeling all the time. usually by end of the day i get to feeling somewhat better. late night is the best. I am finding that if i make an effort to always keep something in my stomach, I feel better especially in the mornings. I even keep snacks by my bed to eat during the night. it seems to help. I am trying to research this in my spare time. I'm convinced it is related to the bile and some type of reflux or other reaction. My doctor thought acid reflux and prescribed nexium. From what i read, this can actually make bile reflux worse. Prior to the surgery, I found a strictly bland diet was working and I almost backed out of the surgery. Now, bland foods don't seem to make much of a difference. I'm about ready to just eat what I want since I will feel nauseous anyway. Would like to know what works/doesn't work for you.

I am here to tell all of you that are considering NOT having your gallbladder removed when you do in fact HAVE gallstones...

PLEASE RETHINK

I did all my research and even bought into the "cleansing" and all that mubo jumbo -

I am breaking it down for you right now

I too though I could get by WITH my gallbladder - when i was RUSHED to the emergency room with Jaundice because I had STONES STUCK in my common Bile Duct.

VERY SICK VERY PAINFUL AND DANGEROUS.

I advise you to not buy into the Cleansing kits if you have stones - GET THE GALLBLADDER OUT!

I agree with blondemonica. The same thing happened to me. I got a stone stuck in the duct. I was in severe pain. I was rushed to emergency and they did and ERCP to remove the stone the same day. I found out later that getting a stone stuck in your duct can be a life or death situation. I didn't know that my condition was so critical at the time. I knew that I had gallstones a few years before, but because of circumstances, I never had the gallbladder operation. I only got my gallbladder out after I was rushed to emergency. Since I waited all those years doing nothing, I ended up getting pancreatitis from the stone getting stuck and I was in the hospital for 4 months. I never tried any kind of cleansing method because I had never heard of it. If you want to prevent yourself from getting worse, then I suggest you have the gallbladder operation. You can live without your gallbladder. It can be very dangerous to do nothing.

I'm 16 and I had my gallbladder removed July 31st '08, about 5ish months ago, because it was only working 9% and was inflamed and discolored. (i didnt have stones) and still i feel nauseous just about every single day. mainly if i eat anything that has fat in it or even sometimes i just feel sick when i wake up in the morning or at night. it's horrible! i hate it cause i'm not my normal self anymore, i always back out of going places with friends or having sleepovers because i don't feel good or i'm afraid to eat anything. also i get acid reflux (i think that's what it is) a lot randomly in the middle of classes and it hurts so bad i'm almost laying on the floor in pain. my surgeon warned me that even though they would remove it, it might not make me feel any better and i guess he was right. so for now i plan on sticking to a low fat diet to see if it changes the way i feel cause i'm soooo tired of feeling like i wanna throw up and die all the time.

I 've been nausea for 10 months, have heart burn and recently starting throwing up at night. Is any relief in sight? All tests have come back normal. Thanks

I am on day four after having my gallbladder removed. I still have some pain but not anything I cannot handle and I already lost five pounds from not eating much due to bouts of nausea I have been having. I keep up on the liquids at least. Before the surgery, I could not eat at all without being curled up in a ball crying from the pain and I had an ejection fraction of 4% result from the HIDA scan with CCK (in which I fought really hard not to curl up in a ball on the scan table once the gallbladder contracted from the CCK). Since the surgery (which I might add NO pain from eating anything in particular that I could not eat before.), I have noticed a few random bouts of nausea to the point I had the sour feeling just before you vomit. The constant on and off greasy/fatty diarrhea already went away (which I did have since March and went as far as taking constipating medications on a regular basis just to tie it over since binding foods went out the door). To all of you that are now going through this or similar, and/or are still experiencing symptoms. Just know your not alone and I hope this helps.

I had my gb out 9 days ago and am healing good. Still some twinges of pain but not bad at all. very mild nausea and a lot of gas but if you take it easy with your diet and work into it slow, you'll be ok. I feel pretty darn good at 9 days. Most everyone here is hysterical, which is not necessary. I am 50 and although I was weak for a few days, I feel like the surgery was a success. Too many people in here depressed. Get on with your life, stop complaining and go out and get a job to get your mind off it. Sure it takes time but be patient for God's sake and eat sensibly and let nature take its course. Bunch of complainers here that need to get over it.

I'm another victim of nausea and low grade fever after my gallbladder surgery 5 days ago. People told me that after the surgery I will be able to eat anything but on the contrary, I can't eat without being sick and I'm sick before I eat! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels awful and helpless after reading all these postings but was disappointed that nobody had a solution so I did a little more research and found that gallbladders and pancreas works together. After the gallstones are removed and the inflammation subsides, the pancreas usually returns to normal. So, I'm thinking what if they don't? The symptoms ...nausea and fever. I would ask the doctor to do a blood test to check your pancreas. I will do the same this Friday. I also read that patients are generally given pancreatic enzymes or insulin, if these substances are not being secreted or released by the pancreas. Pancreatic enzyme pills are usually prescribed to be taken with meals to aid in nutrient absorption. A low-fat diet may also be helpful.

YES - I am in a constant state of nausea but I have not tried the colesterimine (spelling may be wrong). My doctor just suggested it and after I rid myself of rectal inflammation I will be trying it...

I have my gallbladder removed 9 days ago. For the first week my acid reflux and nausea were gone. I was so excited that I was finally able to eat and feel normally again. Then yesterday I had a horrible wave of nausea and acid refulx and even though I got back on my Nexium it has remained. This is horrible. My doctors just say that it is from my GERD, but I felt fine for a whole week and now the nausea is so bad I can barely walk around. Lightheaded too. Surgeon says this is normal and will take 6 weeks to 6 months to feel normal again. ARGH!

I'm glad to find I'm not alone! I had my gallbladder removed about two and a half weeks ago because it was not functioning due to Chronic Chloecystitis (still cannot spell that!). I feel nauseated and tired pretty much all the time. I still have pains in my stomach too, but not nearly as bad as before the surgery. Part of me just wants to give up on the low fat diet I'm on because I'm going to feel sick anyway. Other times I don't feel like eating at all but I make myself. I lost almost 30 pounds before the surgery and I think that has added to my slow recovery (at least that's what my mom thinks). Anyway, it's good to read about others experiencing the same things as me.

I had gallbladder removal surgery in November and it took until late January (two and 1/2 months) to get over my nausea and be able to eat solid food. During that time, I drank Ensure and lost close to 30 pounds...the smell of food made me sick to my stomach. Finally, my doc put me on Prednisone and the nausea decreased within a week and I was able to start eating again. Since then I haven't had any problems with my appetite and the nausea is gone.

During the time I was unable to eat, I was in a great deal of fear and despair about ever being able to eat again, but a post by a doctor who said it can sometimes take months helped me to keep the faith and believe that it would change. So, take your time, eat light, non greasy food, drink Ensure for nutrition and calories and eventually your system will recalibrate and settle down.

I'm so glad to hear a time line. I am 7-8 weeks after surgery. I had severe nausea for the first few weeks. Medication for nausea every 4 hours plus acid reducer OTC meds helped. A lot of belching if I ate. Then I seemed to get better and could eat normally for 2-3 weeks with only occasional short bouts of belching. Last week it started again. I went 3 days without eating and then ate only 1 or 2 Saltines with ginger tea. On the 4th and 5th days I could stomach some scrambled eggs and soup. Now I am just waiting to be normal again. Anyone have anxiety with these "spells"? Ever since my first attack I get lots of anxiety for no reason.
