I had my gall bladder removed over three months ago, and I, too, am still suffering from nausea. Nausea, by the way, was my main symptom before I found out that I had a diseased gall bladder. I thought all the nausea would disappear after having the surgery but I was wrong. I have some good days but the nausea always starts to creep back in after a few days. I am hoping to hear from someone who had this same problem but after time it went away. I get very depressed when I feel this way, because I feel like it will be this way for the rest of my life. I have had every other test done and everything is normal. I'm hoping it's just my body trying to readjust, but no doctor will admit this for some reason. I relate mostly to dannyj, seems like I have all of the same symptoms. Now that it's been a few more months, dannyj, have you started feeling better?

hello i just read the article you posted about your problems with your gall bladder removel. i realize that you posted this a couple years ago. your story describes my issues too the T. i am curious too know how you are doing at this time.. Has your nausea gotten any better. Do you have any suggestions that may help me cope with this? Anything may help! Is there any hope?

thanks, shawn

I too have just had my gallbladder removed and am still suffering the same nausea as before the surgery---it has been 18 days for me---went to my gastro doctor who put me on two prilosec a day and a drug called carafate---I hope it helps---when did you get over your nausea and how?

To all who are worried about the length of recovery, I had my GB removed Aug. 1, 2010, after weeks of solid symptoms. I was not able to eat, I had constant neausea and vomiting and no appetite. After a week in the hospital and a battery of tests, they found my GB was not functioning. I thought that after removal I would be back to normal by the end of a week. I was wrong! I remained I'll, nauseous and computing with rapid weight loss and dehydration, no appetite and feeling like I was dying for months. I finallylearned to take it slow! My insides had been through he'll for weeks and they needed time to heal and get used to the lack of a GB. I got so bad that my stomach actually shut off, called gastroparesis. Once I figured out I needed to focus on staying hydrated and increasing my calories from 0-500/day to at least 1200 a day, I started to see improvement. Here is how I did it...I lived on nutrition shakes like Ensure. That's all I ate/drank for almost a month. As I started feeling better, I introduced very bland foods, baked/roasted chicken, rice, etc. I very slowly was able to eat foods and I tracked my caloric intake, to make sure I was getting at least the minimum I needed. This helped my body to recover. If I started feeling bad I would go back to the Ensure drinks and start over. The last day I vomited was Oct. 8, 2010. I still have off days if I eat things that are too much, and sometimes I just feel off, so rather than risk it I will go back to the Ensure until I feel better (usually by lunchtime). My advice? Take it slow!! Give your body time to heal and if something doesn't feel right, trust your gut and talk to your doctor! Good luck, I've been there and now I am here...you will get here too!

Thank you so much for writing---did you take prilosec or carafate for the reflux symptoms---I really feel the same way and before I got sick about a month and a half ago, I was in great health---ran 3 miles each day---thin--ate healthy foods---this has knocked me for a loop----I have high anxiety and believe it or not, I am a psychotherapist who specializes in anxiety disorders---some posts say to stay away from dairy and fat---isn't ensure high in fat? Nevertheless, I am going to try this because I can hardly get food down---your response really helps me to know that people do go through this and get better eventually---

Yes, there is fat in Ensure, however, it didn't seem to bother me. My body needed the nutrition and by "fat" they mean for you to avoid really greasy foods. This whole thing triggered severe anxiety, so I also had to treat that at the same time. It has been almost a year and I am med free, I can eat normally, and other than still dealing with mild lingering anxiety, I feel great! Be sure to address any issues you may be experiencing. I know for me, that vomiting and tummy issues are due to stress and with the introduction of the anxiety it was only making things worse. I also attribute my recovery to my acupuncturist. I used to be skeptical, buri was desperate when I started seeing her, and I started feeling relief after the first visit (on average it take 4-8 treatments to notice a difference). She helped wake-up my stomach and ease my anxiety symptoms. Good luck!

My obgyn gave me some xanax this morning because he said I need to calm down---I went to buy some ensure---I guess the worse that can happen is I will throw up if there is too much fat---I had two nausea free days last week but this has gotten worse---and you expressed it perfectly---sometimes I feel like I am dying---now I have fear they will find something terrible on the small bowel test---my mind is just really in a bad place---also, I made an appointment with an accupunturist---I have been before for back issues so I know how powerful it can be----do you take anything for your anxiety? did you have it before this whole ordeal with your gallbladder? I can help you with that if it has been something you have suffered with in your life---I truly helped many clients in my 15 years of private practice---we could even work by phone if you want---just an offer---I know you are thinking "doctor heal thyself"---I am trying but need to call upon my tools alot---when I was in practice, I saw many people with panic disorder---some could hardly leave home but most improved greatly or completely---anxiety is probably the worse part of any give situation(loss of control, fear, etc.

How many ensures did you drink each day? I have no appetite and have to force it---was this the same for you? I had the small bowel study this morning---wasn't too bad but now I am stressing about the results---hopefully I will know ny tomorrow---when you were doing the ensure, did you take protonix or acid inhibitors? I know my feelings of weakness are because of little to no food---and now am taking xanax with the other anti-acid drugs---what did your accupuncturist do? did she give you any homeopathic medicine? I hate even being alone right now---the fear is still bad---I keep challenging it but I am in a dark place---the prayer service I went to at a friend's church last night helped because everyone prayed over me---I had never experienced that before---I so wish there was a "quick fix" for this----

Truly, I hope I am not bothering you but I just feel terrible---the nausea is there almost all day---I made myself drink a container of ensure bur felt so sick afterwards---will try again tomorrow---were you just nauseated everyday? how did you get through this for months? I don't have pain (thank goodness) but I can't function with this nausea---did the accupuncture help the nausea? I see someone tomorrow but don't think she can actually do a treatment on me until next week----did your nausea sometimes get better at night?

hi there im 8 weeks post op and i feel more ill now thaan before i had my gallbladder removed , i have severe daily nausea , headache, belching and abdominal pain and indigestion , i had all these symptoms before i had my g/b removed but now they are much more intense , i am so deppressed , i expected miracles from this operation and i am now left feeling ten times worse ...i am on metoproclomide 3 times a day , was on nexium as i have gastritis too , im awaiting yet another endoscopy which i am dreading, im forcing myself to eat but it s so difficult , i totally sympathise with you , this is so debilitating , most days i cant go out as i feel so bad , when is it ever going to end , im amazed how many people are suffering the same problems , do doctors not listen , i think they just dismiss the nausea as an anxiety side effect , i also suffer from panic disorder which i had totally under control but it s creeping back in now , some days i feel like im going to pass out ,it s very scary , i just dont know what to do next

I am in such gratitude that you wrote---Today I have just wanted to cry all day----the nausea is so bad-----first, I want to say that I am so sorry you are suffering too---maybe we can help one another---I actually am a licensed therapist and although I haven't practiced in 6 years, my specialty was anxiety disorders----I chose this specialty because I too suffered from panic disorder right after I got married at 22....we can discuss this later--

did they run other tests on you before your surgery? did you have gallstones or a non-functioning gallbladder? They detected mine with the HIDA scan ----i had a low ejection factor----I had been having constant nausea for 3 weeks---couldn't eat---now I am three weeks post op and I still can't eat---I am 5'2" and weigh 105---I lost 11 pounds in a month and a half----what is metoproclomide? ---have you lost weight?

How old are you? I wonder why your doctor has chosen to do another endoscope----did he do one before your sugery? I had one and they found mild gastritis and my surgeon says this can cause constant nausea---he has me on prilosec and carafate for 6 days now---I really don't feel any better---i had a barium small bowel test today and will get the results tomorrow---even with all the tools I know I am very afraid right now too....blessings to you---I hope you write back---
