I want to thank everyone for all the information on side effects after the procedure. My doctor was very confident that this is the procedure I need. I was on the verge of getting mine scheduled, but after reading through this site and looking up long term side effects (which implies about 90% of women will need a hysterectomy within 5 yrs-d/t increasing unmanageable pain and other issues); I have decided not to do it. I will deal with the heavy bleeding and severe cramps and PMS. I will wear a pull-up if I have to. If it gets too bad, I will demand a hysterectomy out-right. (at least I will know what to expect). On the surface- this procedure looks like a God-send, but it's just a temporary bandaid, and you end up with way worse problems! I'm glad for all the women who have a good experience. At this time, I am not willing to risk curing one problem- only to end up with 3 worse ones! Best of luck everyone, and God Bless :)
Hello to all! I had the Novasure ablation in 2006. At first, it was great. No periods! In January 2009, I was diagnosed with a retroperitoneal Liposarcoma tumor. After an extensive surgery to remove my left kidney, spleen, adrenal gland, and resection of my diaphragm, I was cancer free! Fast forward to October 2009...I was experiencing severe pain in my lower right abdomen and the only thing I could think of was "the tumor is back", since liposarcomas have a high recurrence rate. I was in a panic the whole way to the ER. The ER doc ordered a CT scan due to my history, and the tumor was ruled out..but the pain was still there! My WBC count was elevated so they thought it could be appendicitis. I was kept overnight, and had surgery the very next morning to remove my appendix. I was released 2 days later and sent home with pain meds. My follow up was with my surgical oncologist and he said the lab results from my appendix came back fine and that the ER doc should have called him because my WBC are always elevated due to no spleen. I didn't know what to think since I thought it COULD have been my appendix as I was no longer having any pain. Then, almost one month to the day after my appendectomy, the pain returned. I didn't want to go to the ER because I knew they would think I was crazy. Instead, I googled my symptoms and that's the day I became a Google Doctor! Every single symptom listed..I had it. The next day I made an appointment with my new gyno doc...as soon as I described by symptoms..he told me "you have post ablation tubal ligation syndrome" YES!!!! I didn't have to be that crazy patient that said, "Google says I have....." He recommended a hysterectomy and I didn't think twice! As much as I dreaded being cut on again, I did not want to live for another 10 or so years (I was 37) in such pain. The surgery was orchestrated with my GYN and Surgical Oncologist so they could "tag team" and do a hernia repair at the same time. Best decision ever!
I eventually had a hysterectomy. I've never been so happy for surgery
I got to the point of only 1 week out of the month without severe pain.. it was like labor or worse for 3 weeks at a tim . It was horrible.
My periods never stopped and in fact my cramps would get worse. By the time a year passed I had went from my painful 3 day crampy period to this new period that would start with some normal spotting, then stop for 2-3 days, then start again with brown (or darker) clotted blood. I would have extremely painful bowel movements, frequent urination, extremely painful sex, and it literally feels like my uterus is a solid painful block of cement inside me...to the point that it hurt to even sit. I had radiating pain down my left leg that was debilitating. I get nausea and vomiting on day 2/3 to the point that I have went to ER countless times and even gave myself aspirated pneumonia from throwing up. Every time they never even guessed the problem even though I gave them all of my medical history and they even had MRI and CT scans done-- and at one point seen a large pocket of "fluid". Repeated tests showed nothing and my dr thought I was crazy. By chance during a gyn appt, they did a vaginal ultrasound (on day 2 of my period) and seen an abnormally large pocket of blood in my uterus and discovered that it is ablation syndrome. Altogether it has been 6-7 years that I have been going through this pain and my family has had to deal with me being totally out of the game a week(at least) every month. Not to mention the weight gain due to discomfort when I exercise. It is to the point that even when I'm not on my period my stomach feels full and I feel like I have a rock in my stomach bouncing around off of all my organs and bowels. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy (that I never wanted) within a month and I am hoping that the problems will stop but due to damage already caused, I may still have bowel discomfort and other issues. I wish there was a way to be compensated for this...I am only 35.
Many people have.
It's horrible procedure
