Look up carpal tunnel symptoms. If you wake up at night and your hands are asleep and you have to shake them and then go back to sleep. You may need to talk to Workers Compensation and be tested for carpal tunnel syndrome.
Did any of you find your symptoms started after a flu shot?
I am using a MacBook pro for about three months now as a heavy user. Since doing so I frequently experience numbness of my fingers, particularily when asleep.
Peripheral neuropathy, i.e. numbness in fingers and toes, can (not exclusively) come from STDs, mainly Syphillis and (get ready for it) AIDS. Don't flip out though, if it IS an STD it could well be syphillis which is treatable and reversible, and it is more likely this is the cause in this case. It could also be herpes, which could also be transmitted to your boyfriend. In some STDs the outward symptoms e.g. boils etc can be dormant for some time after contraction, so maybe you would benefit from a check-up...

I am a 45 y/o male high stress occupation (realtor) and constantly busy. I have been experiencing left side numbness for tha last six months.
At first I thought it was stress but thought back a few years ago about other problems I had regarding heart palpitations and chest pain. I went for numerous tests and it was determined that it was acid reflux disease. The problem went away for quite some time after treatment with an acid reducer.
I did not have quite the same symptoms but thought it might be related to the left side numbness so I started taking an acid reducing over the counter pill and the numbness has gone away.
For those of you experiencing this numbness try the acid reducer pills (zantac), it just might be the relief you are after. It has really healped me.
Best wishes

i am 21 yrs old i have had tingling, weakness, stabbing pain in my head, upset belly at times, numbness and dizzyness and chest pains. for about 7 months. ive been to that many docs and they cant find anything. nothing has shown up in my bloods or in my scans. i was wondering if anyone has had anything like this or if they know what it is.
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure how relevant this is going to be for some of you, but I experienced some of these similar symptoms (numbness of the face, trouble thinking clearly etc) last April and I also saw many doctors and underwent many tests. The Doctors suspected MS, but a CT Scan showed that it probably wasn't the case. Turns out, a nurse at the ER had the same symptoms a few months prior and she discovered it was Aspartame Poisoning (from drinking diet pop). I also was drinking diet pop, but not very much so she thought it probably wasn't that, but suggested that I stop drinking diet pop anyway. I did, and within 10 days my symptoms were all gone.
If you still have the symptoms, and you ingest Aspartame, Sucralose ("Splenda"), or Saccharin, I would suggest you stop eating/drinking those chemicals and see if they help your symptoms at all. I was relieved when I found out that was the problem.

I hope that this helps someone out there : )

Two years ago I started with slight numbess in left foot. I now have this all way up left side - including top of lip on l.hand side. Consultant has queried Epilepsy - but MRI scan and EEG are normal. Sensations last about 1-2 minutes, most days but can go 5 days (when not working!) without.
I was so happy to find this board. I started experiencing the same symptoms about a week ago and am scared to death. I work in the healthcare field and none of the nurses or Nurse Practitioners can find anything wrong. BP,vitals, iron, blood sugar, lung function all fine. No one can explain the numbness and occasional SOB or chest pain.
The entry about artificial sweetner is interesting because I drink diet sodas as if they are the only source of liquid! I am going to TRY to quit and see if symptoms subside.
I will let you all know if it works! %-)

About 2 weeks ago, I experienced numbness in my left hand. I also felt a little ache in my lower left arm and left foot. All this started happening after I operated a high-end camcorder, which I gripped really tight. I also stood for long periods. I started worrying, fear that it might be MS or diabetes.
A week ago I went to get my annual physical done. The Nurse Practioner said all my blood tests were normal. She checked my left hand out. She ruled out Carpel Tunnel Syndrome since the inside of my wrist didn't hurt when she ran her hand down it. She said it's tendinitis, due to my job (in which I gripped the camcorder). She had me take Advil 3 times a day for 3 days and ice my inner wrist for 30 minutes a day. After this, my hand, arm, and foot are back to normal. I'm so grateful it wasn't anything worse. I'm not taking my health for granted ever.

Hi
I've had the same symptoms dating back to 2002; pins and needles in my left side - going up my arm and my face, and sometime down the back of my neck... it makes me feel quite light headed and gives me blurry vision too. it can be very scary!
It usually stays around for a few weeks and then goes again and it's always triggered by not enough sleep, too much going out and too much to drink over a prolonged period. it only comes along every couple of years.
I've had MRI scans, blood tests and CT scans but nothing showed up. I think it's my body's ways of dealing with stress and exhaustion. If I look after myself by getting plenty of sleep, drink lots of water and staying off the booze for a while, it tends to disappear.
I had a look around some other websites and others have also reported these symptoms as being some kind of anxiety attack.
You should always get these things checked out by the doctors etc, but I thought it may be of some comfort to those who have had all the scans etc and still no idea what it is. Maybe you're just a little on edge and haven't been looking after yourself. Just try to relax, get plenty of sleep and see how that works.
Hope you all feel better soon.

I have had numbness for around 2 months now. I am a 30 yr old male. It started when i was doing a workout at the gym. I was wearing my wedding ring at the time and had thought i hurt my from pressure on the ring and it would eventually go away. It has since spread to my ring finger and down the left hand side of my palm. I play guitar and my ability to do chords that previously were easy to me have now become impossible. My grip is quite weak also. I visited my local GP and have been adviced i have pinched a nerve somewhere in my arm. I am to see a specialist in the next week to determine what i can do. I will post any answer i have to my case if/ when..i find them out.
well...i went to a doctor who tested me for various things and what he told me was that it is in fact damage to my nerve in my elbow. this is caused mainly from leaning on it for extended periods ( like what i do while surfing the net, playing online poker etc...) i have been told to keep my arm straight when possible, mainly while sleeping (do this by wrapping my elbow in a towel or bandage loosely but enough to stop it being completly bent) and to not lean on my elbow ( which im finding rather hard to do, bad habit i guess..). ive been told that it should go back to normal in approx. 3/4 weeks depending how i follow the instruction. However if the symptoms continue, i can choose to have some surgey which entails moving the nerve slightly (which does not sound very appealing to me). i hope this info helps someone as i was initially very worried when i first came onto this site/forum, as i had no idea what was happening to me. i will however do a follow up post on here in 3/4weeks time informing of how the treatment has or has not worked. Take care and dont worry yourself too much(like i did) untill you actually see a doctor.
