I have been having the same problem, but I don't eat seafood...so I'm still scared! I can't find anything online that relates to the problem and does not involve fish. I do have the stomach pains to go along with it though. ANy ideas???

I had the same problem. I ate the Escolar (Butterfish) and got the orange-diarrhea symptoms too. It was just a bad thing for my partner that night that I started my orange-liquid (leakage) while having sexual intercourse. I was really worried when I went on a medical site and was told that it had to be something with my Liver. Came to find this site and what a lifesaver!! Just give it a couple days and it'll go away.

AWESOME thread. Yeah, so relieved to find others with the same freakish symptoms (orange, oily stools). At first, being a medical doctor, I thought maybe it was some bactrim I took or I it was something wrong with my pancreas, or that it was bacterial overgrowth, all of which can do it (along with alcohol and other stuff i'm not really exposed to). Anyway, I started having those embarassing symptoms (like a tiny fart and a stinky orange, oily surprise---that doesn't come out easily). I was doing the wash (like a little boy who peed his bed....only much worse), and like that little boy, my mom (wife) caught me, and asked me what the heck I was doing the laundry for. I lied at first. Anyway, I'm not a good liar, so told her a few mins later. Good thing too (!) because she started experiencing it a couple days after me. And that's the ONLY way I was able to put this all together, so I googled "steatorrhea" (oily, stinky stool) and chilean seabass, and VOILA! Here we are.

GUESS WHAT? Same cause as maybe 1 or 2 of you. We found some great-priced (!)---first red flag huh?---"CHILEAN SEA BASS". Now, the reason I'm posting here is that I've read on another forum that that fish is frequently misrepresented and is actual escolar/white tuna/"butterfish", because C.S.B. is pretty expensive menu-type item, and suckers like me will think "GREAT DEAL! I'LL TAKE TWO!" (hmm, more like "take two and call me in the morning").
The most embarassing/hardest part is that you also have a lot of gas/bloating/pressure, and your instinct is to let one loose (hey, we all produce 1 liter of methane a day), so that only makes it harder, because with this fish thing, you can't just "let one rip"!

So I just write all this not to be overly graphic, but to help others. It took me 3 days to figure it out, and I'm a frigging MD! *haha*

Anyway hope this helps a lot of people. Oh yeah, if I only had ONE piece of advice I could give to others it would be this: Once you get these orange, oily stools (btw, it's not a lot and it doesn't hurt), any time you need to let one rip, make sure you do it on the toilet EVEN A TINY ONE.

PS It's too bad, too, cuz that fish is like the best tasting fish (like "buttu") we've ever had. We even went back for more. I'd had that symptom about a month ago, and in retrospect, it corresponds to the first time we bought it (same asian mega grocery store).

PPS Oh yeah, and a couple other things, a lot of albatross (an endangered bird) are lost because of the types of fishing nets used in these remote places (we're talking Chilean sea bass on this one), so that may or may not be impt to you. And finally, chilean seabass commonly has a LOT of mercury, and has been outlawed in several countries because of the potential health hazards...but we don't need to worry about the mercury with orange droplets in the stool! haha. Take care y'all.

VERY glad to have read all these posts. I was worried since I've never had this kinda diarrhea before and heard it could be related to issues of the gallbladder. But hearing that it could be white tuna is a relief since I had a tuna casserole for dinner last night :P

I too am relieved to hear about the butterfish explanation and I also have this reaction to chilean sea bass!! I have always wondered why. I always worry that I will accidently order it or have crossover contamination.

I've had this and I eat no fish. I have however ate planters cashews with sea salt and Wendy's fries with sea salt. Either fish or sea salt causes this

Hello, I ate butter fish if I want to translate from my language. I thought I will eat something light unlike beef steak. I ate it on Friday and experienced similar thing, and ate it again on Sunday, because after a heavy wine tasting dayI thought it will be something easy to digest. The waiter was the same guy, and he looked at me strange, when I ordered twice the same meal in 3 days.
Anyways thanks for being so well informed, it relaxed my mind a lot!

Time to get your gallbladder checked. If the bile flow is blocked it can cause discolored diarrhea & pain.
