So a few days ago I really didn't feel well, but I went to the doc's Thursday (and I was really feeling the worst I've been feeling throughout this ordeal) and like I said before, they gave me Ceclor and Decadron and by Saturday when I woke up my ears/throat didn't hurt anymore. I've felt fine ever since, being on the medicine. I hope everyone else has gone to the doctor's, and perhaps if nothing has worked, ask about ceclor and decadron because they both really helped with whatever was draining behind my ears and the inflammation of my throat. I hope everyone feels better:-) Don't wait until this goes away either; I'd felt this way for a month and it only got worse, so go to the doctor's asap.

I have went to the doctors and was prescribed AMOXICILLIN, it has not worked and has actually caused a reaction of some sorts with small rashes irritating my skin and I am not allergic to Penicillin, which is what amoxicillin is.

i have the same thing. over 6 weeks now. tried amoxicillan first, seemed to get a better but didn't go away. then it got worse again, went to different doctor and perscribed prednisone, biaxin, and vicodin (vicoding for a sore throat!). have had a mono test and strep test both negative. the prednisone seemed to help because after three days of that i thought i was better then after 2 days of feeling better it came back and its bad as ever. my right side hurts, it's pretty bad swallowing is almost unbareable. i've found that my roomates perscription of ibuprofin 800mg really helps for about 6 hours. i definitely feel pressure constantly in my right ear and when i swallow or move my tongue to the wrong spot it really irritates what seemes to be my eustacian tube. i was thinking maybe its an inner ear infection but my throat doesn't look good either. now i have a pretty big inflamation with a decent sized white spot on it. im on a 10 day wait to see the first ENT doctor i could find to see me.

Well Ive read all the same symptoms and no one seems to have a cure. Ive had a feeling that I need to swallow in the left side of my throat for three years. Ive had a throat scope and MRI that showed nothing there. Yea that sound like good news but the throat thing is still there and I am a professioal singer. I have found that saline nose spray does give some relief by removing allergins in your throat. But its temporary only. I can take Claritin D......only 1/2 tab.........because full tab will dry you out so much its hard to sing for four hours. Keep searching for the cure..............I am...........Funkyhoff

I went to the doctor yesterday for exactly the same symptoms, except for the tongue hurting when moved. My jaw does feel like it's been talking up a storm, but i've been sleeping for the past 4 hours and it hurts to talk. Anyway, the doctor said it was Laryngitis, but I've looked up the symptoms and it doesn't really fit. I don't really have a hoarse voice and i'm not coughing at all. The doctor told me that most people get tested for Strep throat with my symptoms, but the results usually come back negative. She prescribed me 500mg of penicillin vk to be taken 3 times a day for 7 days. I just took one today, so i still have some time to go before i find out if it works or not. I hope that helps somewhat.

EAR INFECTION!.. Your ear hurts and because of this infection in the middle ear your lymph nodes get swollen as well. Get apo-cefprozil (anti biotic) and ear drops from the pharmacy :-)

I've had this since Saturday now - swollen gland/node on right side of neck under chin (feels about the size of a walnut), hurts like hell to swallow, feel the pain in my right ear too, which seems to have worsened today. However I know I've had this before, usually preceding the onset of a cold. I believe last time this happened I was given antibiotics and it eventually cleared up, but no amount of painkillers seem to dull the pain much in the meantime, so it really, really sucks!! But generally, it is a minor infection due to a cold/flu/fever (I do feel slightly feverish with it and my skin has felt a bit prickly - another fever symptom) so I'm sure 9 times out of 10, it's nothing to worry about guys - just a major pain in the neck! :-P

I have it but it's only on the right side. For those of you that have extreme pain I would go in to the doctor. It most likely is just a virus, which is normal for this time of year, but to have it affect your ears, chest and head it may be more serious.

the first time i've had this was in grade 6 and it lasted over 2 months
didnt eat at all, lost about 50 pounds. apparently it was tonsillitis

then it came back in grade 8 or 9 or so, went to the doctor got treated for strep throat. they gave me a mouth wash that was supposed to ease the pain, didn't do sh*t. battled it out for another couple weeks. the antibiotics didnt do jack all either

then it came back in grade 11 right around my birthday. missed another couple weeks of school. antibiotics. didn't help one bit, i dont think.

and now its back again this year, grade 12. same time, right around my birthday. i can't handle it, i have my drivers test coming up soon and i need to be healthy.

i've gone to the doctor several times, treated for tonsillitis, strep throat, sore throat, all that and i still have this problem.

please someone be useful here, everyones giving mixed suggestions as to what to take or what the problem is.

most of the people here are describing exactly what i have.
woke up one morning just with a swollen throat, didnt feel to great that day. got worse the next day then i ended up waking up several times in the middle of the night because i can't swallow my saliva and it just builds up. either dries up or i drool out the side of my mouth. gross i know, but its unbearable. it does feel like theres something sharp stuck in the side of my throat. i wish that was the case so i could just yank it out but noppe!

i'll end up just gathering up spit in my mouth for 10 minutes or so and either just swallow it to keep my throat hydrated or just spit it out cause its too painful. i've also tried every kind of throat losange, cough drop and just have them in my mouth constantly, one after another. dont think they do much at all. also, mornings ARE the worst

so #*&@ someone please help already. and i really dont want to go to the doctors again for nothing

I just got it today.
Hurts when I swallow.
The pain is under my left jaw/neck area.
And it sucks cause while this is happening I constantly developing lots of silava (sp?) so I'm force to swallow, it's getting on my nerves to the point that I'm thinking about just let myself drool on me or spit in my room floor, ANYTHING so that I wont have to swallow. Most people say their ear hurts, I haven't gotten that yet. And most people say that this pain has woked them up from sleep, I hope this don't happen to me because I need my sleep.
The only thing I can remember eating today is three different brands of chocolate and drunk some hot chocolate, I was very hungry and these were just around, trust me I don't mess with chocolate alot, this is a rare one time thing for me since my teeth can't bare chocolate.
I read a few times here that this is a cold, I can already say that this is no way a cold.
People are saying that this has been happening to them for over 2 weeks - through over a month without seeking a doctor...f**k that, there's no way I could've done that, I would've seeked help after three days or a week, but there's no way I could let this go on for over 2 weeks.
