I recently had right shoulder arthoscopy, bicep tenodesis, and rotator cuff repair. I find sleep to be difficult and at times in my sleep, I feel my shoulder jerk. Once that happens the pain is overwhelming. I sometimes feel like I have pulled something. Is it normal
I am a 67 yr old retired mail carrier. I had my right rotator cuff repaired 8 weeks ago on 2-12-2018I also had a bicep tendon rupture which was too far gone to repair. I hesitated to do this surgery for 5 yrs knowing how tough it all would be but my tear accelarated during that time and i had to. Spent 6 weeks in sling and go to PT twice a week in addition to doing home exercises 5 times a day.my first PT was 4 days after surgery and brought tears to my eyes and i consider myself a tough dude. The weeks following also were excruciating in PT but was told necessary for tissue expansion. I can now drive, brush my teeth, comb my hair, shave, wash my hair, put my contacs in,cut meat. So making progress. But still have shoulder and elbow pain almost constantly although at a lower level than befor. The elbow pain concerns me but they tell me its going to go away. Im not so sure and they sometimes laser it. It might be something to check out further. Everyones experiences here seem to be the same and some very different. For instance why didnt everyone start PT right away? Also i slept in my bed with a couch back cushion behind me supported by pillows at a 45 angle with sling on for 6 weeks. Meds mostly knocked me out back then. Now im sleeping flat no sling supporting my right arm with a pillow out about a little lower than shoulder . Feel pain at night toss and turn, of course cant sleep on affected side even though i want to. Only take a tylenol here and there now and a sleep med to get me through. The opiod RX is long gone and doc says no more. This is a long road for all. I thought i would be able to do some spring chores like cutting lawn and small stuff but it aint happening. Ill just follow the course and make small progresses. I can move my shoulder lying down backwards to 160 degrees...almost flat doing the cane exercise. Hang in there everyone. I dont wish this surgery and recovery on anyone but stay the course, get good PT, dont do anything stupid and hopefully in a year we will all feel better. God Bless you all and if you need advice or support im here for you....contact me or reply.my names Paul or Pauly T.
