Glad you also have found it to help!
Maybe someone has already suggested this (I only really read the first page of posts. But I had the same problem as described in the first posts which I believe was caused either by anxiety/stress or a fungal infection.
I accidentaly took an overdose of antibiotics for a uti and was concerned that it would become resitant to the antibiotics when I was prescribed more. I had the symptoms so it appeared my uti hadn't disappeared despite the 2nd course of antibiotics, but tests showed it had.
Anyway. My doc suggested maybe it was a fungal infection (due to the antibiotics) which was causing inflamation of the urethra. I didn't have noticable vaginal discomfort (perhaps very slight) but not the usual symptoms associated with thrush, but after taking one little pill for the fungal infection the symptoms disappeared.
So if anybody is still unsure as to the cause, perhaps fungal infection/stress could be it.
What about....
Interstitial cystitis (in-tur-STISH-ul sis-TI-tis) is a chronic condition characterized by a combination of uncomfortable bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pain in your pelvis, which can range from mild burning or discomfort to severe pain.
While interstitial cystitis — also called painful bladder syndrome — can affect children and men, most of those affected are women. Interstitial cystitis can have a long-lasting adverse effect on your quality of life.
The severity of symptoms caused by interstitial cystitis often fluctuates, and some people may experience periods of remission. Although there's no treatment that reliably eliminates interstitial cystitis, a variety of medications and other therapies offer relief.
Interstitial cystitis symptoms include:
Pain in your pelvis (suprapubic) or between the vagina and anus in women or between the scrotum and anus in men (perineal). Chronic pelvic pain. A persistent, urgent need to urinate. Frequent urination, often of small amounts, throughout the day and night. People with severe interstitial cystitis may urinate as often as 60 times a day. Pain during sexual intercourse. Some people affected by interstitial cystitis experience only pain, and some experience pressure or discomfort along with frequent, urgent urination. Most affected people, however, experience both pain and frequent, urgent urination.
Although signs and symptoms of interstitial cystitis may resemble those of a chronic urinary tract infection, urine cultures are usually free of bacteria. However, a worsening of symptoms may occur if a person with interstitial cystitis gets a urinary tract infection
If someone has already thought of this I apologize I am just tryin to help and also figure out if that is what I have. :(
I still get problems, particularly before my period, but again, not as much. Alcohol and some very acidic foods do seem to make it worse. Poor health in general also makes symptoms more obvious. Interestingly, apple cider vinegar, which I use on salad, does not seem to make it worse (though it's obviously acidic.)
Anyway, I hope you find something that helps. i have not had a boyfriend since I discovered acidophilus helps the symptoms, so I can't say how much worse it'll get when I'm sexually active again, but I HOPE that it doesn't get anywhere near as bad as it did with my ex. (Which is when the problems started!)
Whatever the cause, and i imagine it varies by person. But I hope to find a solution soon as it's really been a pain lately. Literally and figuratively.
Seems many of us have these symptoms for various reasons. Mine seem hormone related and worsen when I'm sexually active. I haven't been having sex for months so don't know if it'll be worse again when (if!) I start seeing someone again. I'm hoping it was more due to my ex bf.
Anyway, good luck with your Dr. appt. I hope you figure out what's going on and find some relief. If you do, please post here!
And I still recommend trying really good acidophilus pills. My symptoms generally haven't been so bad since I started taking femdophilus.
Sorry about your problems. Seems odd the Dr. said it's not IC. What does he think it is?? Why would he say you'd have it rest of your life if he didn't even know what you have? I'd see another Dr. if I were you.
Have you tried making dietary changes? It's not the same for everyone. Salsa, pineapple, and other acidic things make it worse for me. It's almost always more acute during PMS, and drinking alcohol also makes it hurt, sometimes for days afterwards.
And I keep repeating myself on here, but I swear taking femdophilus supplements have made a huge difference. I started taking them for yeast infections, but after a few weeks of taking the pills I noticed the pee pain had greatly improved. It's worth a try. I imagine other good quality (refrigerated!) acidophilus supplements could help.
Good luck and please update!
