I had bunion and hammertoe surgery on my left foot almost 6 weeks ago . I too have been reading a lot and am amazed at all the different approaches to recovery. Even though most of the posts are old, I find this still to be true based on talking to friends that have had the surgery recently. I completely agree with what you are saying and now realize that complete healing is a much longer-term proposition that requires a lot of patience. I wish the doctors had presented it that way. I think I would have still had the surgery, but not so sure if I'll get the right foot done.
Ibetween big toe and second toe i had a lump started with a blister turned into a Calais then a lump.was talked in to getting my second toe straightened with a. Pin .now 6 months later toe is stiff and hurts when i walk . My doc told me he tells all his patients this up front NOT true never told me. Not happy get all information up front if i knew this .I just wanted the lump removed now my foot hurts all the time.Iwould never had it done. Looks like all about the money $20.000
Good luck toe will be stiff i still have pain after 6 months
Wow hope you have recovered. I would love to have someone to talk to about my surgery if you are available. I am 57 female and am going through pure hell as a result of my surgery.
I too had bunion surgery 17 months ago, my foot has not been the same, pain pain, for me my arch has become very prominent which I never had, my skeletal bones in foot feel inflamed, all toes are very stiff, I have been to a few different specialist with no definite answers, my next step is to ask for an MRI because something is definitely wrong
Sorry to hear that! I currently wear a NEO bunion correction thing...a sort of cloth brace...it helps with the swelling on the ball of the foot that was operated on. Otherwise, the swelling causes discomfort and results in my big toe sticking up and not touching the floor. It's the only relief I get :(
It has been 6 weeks post surgery (Bunionectomy...big and little toe)..
I have severe pain that geels like pins and needles on the bottom of my foot. I can't even stand on my foot. I was given Lyrica but that hasn't help either. I also have swelling that won't go away. I can't stand to have my foot touched due to the pain. My doctor wants me to walk without assistance but I fall before I can take a step due to the extreme pain.
Any ideas of what I can do?

Guys i posted here when i was 2 months post op in 2014 now its Aug 2017. I complained that my foot hurt and toe didnt move at all. Well it took me exactly A YEAR to feel i was back to normal. For the first 6 mnths it was just horrible pain when i walked and the doc said I had to because if not the toe would stay stiff. What made mine worse wast that the cast i had for the first month and the bandages he put for another month were so tight!! When he told me to start walking it was pain everywhere on my poor foot. I felt like all my bones shifted and the only solution was to start walking and let them get back in place. I went to therapy but idont think that helped. I bent and massage my whole foot everyday for the first yr. Now 3 yrs later i can walk without pain. However im not back to how i was before the bunion pain started. And it started by wearing narrow shoes. The most confy i feel is when im wearing cushioned shoes. Heels i try to avoid and its hard since im not even 30 yet. But i thank God i can at least walk and work, even though it takes me more time to find good shoes. Dont loose hope guys! You will get better but do the exercises as soon as you can even if it hurts for a few months. ☺️
I rejected the titanium screws. They were poking out of the top of my feet post bunionectomy.. The first surgery is bone surgery with the pain and extreme swelling. The titanium removal surgery is not bone surgery so it heals faster with less swelling.
BUT. I am over two years post surgery, and I am unable to walk or sleep with the pain. The bones including metatarsals are markedly deviated. One toe lies over another. Swelling and burning and sharp pain are part of my live now.
I had danced regularly. Now all is over. The surgery crippled me. Just getting groceries causes lasting swelling and pain. This is far worse than the bunion pain.
A consult with a different podiatrist diagnosed severe instability from too much shortening of the great toe. Some toes cannot reach the ground so the ball of the foot bears the weight. I am deformed.
I would not have bunion surgery. Bunion pain is better than crippling and forever pain.

I agree! The relatively minor discomfort I felt from my bunion, was nothing to what I'm going through now...numbness in my foot, permanent swelling, "hitchhiker toe," you name it. Dumbest thing I ever did! :(
Podiatrist. Had 2 Orthopedic surgeons look at it but am glad I went with DPM since he only does feet.
I just had everything you described last Friday. I was wondering how you are today? Did you get full range of motion or close to back?
I am six & a half weeks post bunion & 2 hammer toe corrected, my ankle & calf & across the top of my foot still swell when on it too much...my third toe is still really swollen. I'm beginning to think he might have fractured the bone pulling the pin out of that one. If I don't see improvement in a couple days, I'm going to have him look at it...pins were pulled last Wed 27th Sept, today is 5 days later Oct 5th.

Hello
I had my bunion removed when I was 13,I was born with it! I suffer with the ball of my foot and can't bend my toe.I wouldn't recommend this this to anybody. I am 52 years old now and still wary of people been near my feet
