My total right hip replacement was 2/1/12 and I have no more pain in the groin but my right buttock has pain, ache and burning every time I put weight on the right leg. The surgeon is saying this is from my back but I never had this before the surgery. What have you done so far for relief, or what has your doctor helped you with????

Tanya, I was wondering how you are doing now? I was an athlete with hip dysplacia and after my 4th child the pain began. I waited 8 years to have a hip replacement, which I did 4 months ago. The pain I experience now is 10 times the pain I had before surgery. Mainly in my buttox and right below the the replacement where when I walk it feels like someone hammering at my joint when I take a step. If you have found relief in any way please let me know as my surgeon acts like it is in my head. They say xrays are fine. But, obviously something is wrong.

I am happy to have found this site....although not many answers at least I can feel like I'm NOT crazy.  I had THR (right side) 6/2011, now we are at 6/2012 and I have had recurring thigh pain (mid thigh) that sometimes renders me helpless.  I cannot put any weight on the right leg when the pains decides to really show itself.  I have what I feel to be like a lump in my right buttock that is painful as well.

My last bout of pain started 6/14 and went into 6/17.....in the afternoon of 6/17 it subsided, no ryhme, no reason.  My lower back this time around was in quite alot of pain as well.  That seemed to subside with the thigh pain.

I found some things to research here in this site, such as the calcification growing into the muscle, aslo the aspiration of fluid.  I have an appt. with my primary care physician in 2 days...I will run these by him.  Last time I went to the orthoped. who did my surgery he made me feel as tho I was crazy and gave me a card to go see a back Dr.  I am very upset with him right now....surley if I found this infor on the first site I went to....surely he nows this problem is out there.  He is a very well respected Dr. I went to him because of the wonderful referrals he had, some I know personally.  So I don't understand why he would be upset with me for continuing to come and see him, however that's the way he made me feel 6 weeks ago when I was there last.

To the soldier I read about on the previous page.....thank you for your service, I do hope you find relief my friend.

I would appreciate any input.

I had a total hip replacement in 2009. I have recently been having a sharp pain in my buttocks and pain radiating down my thighs. I notice it mostly when lying down. But the pain in the buttocks is usually when I'm walking. I find I have the pain when pushing a shopping cart or if I turn suddenly. I think I need to make a better effort to keep my feet pointed straight, and I also notice it if I wear shoes with different heel heights. I hope any of these ideas help you. I'm still looking for more answers.

I had both hips replaced 1 1/2 yrs ago, I am having horrible pain and cannot walk unless I am dopped up on drugs the pain is so horrible, it started on the left side in my buttox and now is in both sides, including my lower back and some in my legs, sometimes my left leg and foot go numb, I too am at my witts end, I had a series of 3 shots and it seemed to make it worse. I had had back surgery 3 yrs ago. I can sit or lay and it doesn't bother me at all, but I can't walk much at all as the pain is the worst I have ever had. Does anyone have a solution for this, what can I do and who can I go to , to get it done. It is no life at all .

I have a similar problem, but only on one buttock - there is a swelling on the side which was diagnosed as a psedotumor - a reaction to the parts of my titanium/polyethyylen hip (no sign of wear). i'm having an operation in the fall - they will cut out as much as the pseudotumor as possible (leaving the nerves and arteries alone as much as they can), and replacgin the joint parts. yesterday our of desperation i exposed the hip to a nice hot sun for half an hr and again today - it may sound strange, but it seems to help.

My name is Joseph, 62 years old. I had full right hip replacement 2 1/2 years ago in Yakima, WA. Surgery and recovery went very well. Just about all pain was gone and I felt well. April 6, 2012 drove to VA. to stay for awhile and 2 weeks later developed severe pain in the replacemnt hip and incision. Had X-Rays, blood work and all is well. Tried some PT and it helped for a short while but pain has gotten worse. Was wondering whether the pain is coming from the drastic change in humidity? Please, any help would be so appreciated.

i have a similar situation plus a bulge on the side of my hip - i have been told that it's a pseudotumor this is a non-toxic growth which is a reaction to the nip as a foreign body - usually associated with particulate from wear. there are several class action suits against the manufacturer which you may want to check out on the web. the first step is to find out what parts were used - you medical records dept at the hospital or surgeons office has them - it's your property (at least in canada) so they HAVE to give it to you. just request a copy of your file. should be no problem the above is based on my experience. i'm not a doctor so this isn't what you could call "gospel"

I've had total hip replacement in sept 2011 and have pain in centre of hip, which my consultant says is coming from a bulging disc which was diagnosed by MRI, but he refused to order an MRI of my hip, I'm now awaiting an appointment at the pain clinic, for which there's a 5 month wait. He wants me to have an injection into the disc, but I feel it's a hip pain
