I'm still in pain. I have had so many injections in my back and the last injection was in a muscle in the hip. Nothing has worked. I know it's my hip and not my back. My ortho doctor doesn't want to hear it though. He x rays it and tells me my hip is fine.
It's the weirdest thing. I get up and feel fine and start walking but as soon as I have walked 100 steps, I can't walk anymore. I have to sit for a minute and then I can get up and walk again for another 100 steps or so. I go back to the surgeon in September for a checkup and see what he says. I will post on here again. I think I might go to another surgeon for an opinion. Something is definitely wrong. Since my hip replacement I have gained 30 pounds because I can't walk. It's really frustrating that no one can figure it out. Had I thought there was a chance that this would happen, I probably would not have had the hip replaced.

I had my hip replaced in September 2013 and while I recovered from the surgery as soon as I was able to walk, I got severe pain in my buttock on the side the hip was replaced. My surgeon has said nothing is wrong with the hip. I have had about 10 injections in my back and 1 in a muscle near the hip. Noting has helped. I can walk, but as soon as I reach about 100 steps the pain is unbearable and I have to sit down. if I sit for a minute then I can get up and walk another 100 steps. I have gained 30 pounds since my hip surgery because I can't walk any distance. I just don't know what to do. My surgeon just keeps saying my hip is OK. I see him in September again and if he isn't any help I will probably go to another surgeon for an opinion.

I had my replacement a year past January and am still having considerable, disabling pain in my buttock. My surgeon admits that this is a side effect of hip replacement but he tells me the cause is unknown.
Wonderful!!
Wonderful!!
Tanya,
I had the Same exact thing happen to me after my THR . I was fine for 2 years ,then started having pain in my buttock, way deep . It would get worse with standing and walking . X-rays showed nothing and MRI showed nothing .They did a fluid extraction and got tons of fluid out . Dr was stumped . He decided to do a revision because of the fluid. Once in there he found that my component was loose and when walking was banging down on the cup. So he replaced it . So far so good . I am 6 months post op.

So sorry that your in so much pain, I too suffer so much. It's become what life is all about anymore. The depression is unbearable. I really don't have anybody either. But I do have a wonderful husband who is my rock, but he also has a lot of issues. We both live in such pain and never get a break. Do you have a neighbor or some kind of support group that you can talk to? I do feel so bad for you. Also, do you have medication prescribed for you that helps ease your pain somewhat? Life is so hard for some of us. I know we didn't do anything to deserve this. I well be thinking of you. Please know that.
I had a total hip replacement two years ago and have struggled with back pain and sciatica ever since. I have pinpointed this issue to be my piriformis muscle which is extremely tight and preventing me from any long distance walking . My lower back muscle begins to tighten up and is so constricted I cannot stand the pain . many of you who think your issues stem from your back maybe your piriformis muscle which can be affected after a hip replacement .
Oddly enough if I sit on the toilet with my legs spread apart and really stretch well I can stand up and feel just fine . I guess my answer is working on the piriformis but wish my surgeon had stress how important this stretching was after surgery . Good health to all of you !

thank you - I go to PT for knee pain and mentioned the piriformis to my therapist and she was able to do PT for me and it really helps, never heard of this before you wrote.
You girls are still better off. I went thru the same total hip replacement surgery in April last year. 10 to 12 days after discharge and whilst on physio I one day dislocated the same hip whilst getting off the bed was back again in the hospital. The length of my leg has increased half inch after this surgery. I am not only able to walk without support of a stick but also going thru so much pain....life for me has come to a standstill I can't find a job due to this abnormality.....

i dont have any solutions for the pain other than to try to get yr doctor to believe that you need something stronger. i do want offer you sympathy and am sending you a caring hug. Being alone is not easy but in your physical situation it is really hars. i speak from experience. i live alone. so true sympathy and caring are being sent to you.
