Hi zakdogan,

I also had a Bartholands Cyst for over fifteen years. I had it operated on three times without success. I finally had my gland removed. The cyst attached to the gland was large after fifteen years. The surgery was painful afterward but, the pain medicine works well. The healing time was about a month. After a week you can walk and sit fine but, no sex for at least a month and use you own senses as to when. Do not have sex if you even think it is going to hurt. Wait... it will heal eventually. without any scarring if you give it the time.
I have no symptoms anymore and there are no deformities from the surgery.

I had my marsupilization about a month ago. It was fine, I wasn't in that much pain. It was so much better than having a god damn bartholin cyst swell up every month.

I recommend this surgery, my doctor is VERY experienced with this and wow I have never felt any better. I still can't have sex, but I can wait for that. I'll probably be anoher month before I'm comfortable havin sex.

But, I thought I would post this seeing as people said people shouldn't get it. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT! (WITH A DOCTOR THAT IS EXPERIENCED) ask them how many they have done, if they have done less than 10 DON'T GO TO THEM!

i had a bartholins cyst for 3 years that never caused pain except for pinching in tight jeans, but because of my age , 39, they advised it to be removed , not just the cyst but the whole gland they decided after they started the surgery, it was about the size of a golf ball when i beared down or squatted., so it didn't turn into anything and make sure it wasn't anything else, apparently most are found in younger women they told me. i had alot of pain and needed a full 2 weeks off from work , only getting up and about the last 3 days. it took 4 weeks for the noticable pain to wane and now 6 weeks only feel traces of it , scar tissue i guess, and the stitches still in tact. it seemed like alot of pain to go through for reall feeling nothing wrong. and the other thing is that my labia is now kind of deformed. it seem the lower quater of it at the bottom is detatched and hangs down and is also still numb as well as the left side of that general area is. at a check up the dr put some more stitches to the labia but the external skin was all healed so i thought.. what is it going to grow back to/ and after the next follow up she noted that it still wasn't attached, so in 5 weeks i am to go back and she says she will put a "nick" in it and suture it back in place. it really is only a cosmetic problem , but it feels strange like a little appendage down there so im hoping they get it back to at least where theres not a dangling lip anymore. i guess if i had more of a probllem with my cyst i wouldn't care so much about the aestethics but it was a very major recovery . longer than i thought and imagined. has anyone else been difigured by the removal of either a cyst or the gland?

:-( Hi to all,

I had a bartholin gland excision last dec. 2007. During the process of healing, it got swelled and there's a yellow discharge. So I assumed it got infected so I took it again with my OB gyne. I had to take several antibiotics. The discharge had gone but the swell just reduced in size. Until now, I feel it still swell and painful but my OB gyne told me that I was just too conscious about it and it was healed and its OK. My labia minora had been deformed and lower part has a lot of cuts. There's a skin protruding inside the labia minora that causing pain and it feels like the tissue is being stretch whenever I sit. I had to consult other OB gyne about this, and she said maybe some nerve had been cut that's why the pain still there. The most shocking is, the pain may or may not go. So I think, it is better to have marsupialization than to have bartholin excision.

Ok, so what a journey. I'm laying in bed recovering from having my barthlin gland removal. Well to start off, Ive been having these reoccuring cysts for 3 years....and for the first 2 years they went away on there own.

My first surgery was to the ER in Dec 06....felt everything, extremely painful, but instantly better. 11 months go by and within hours I had a cyst the size of a small plum, and a skin infection to the top of my underwear line. I went to a gyno, and she cut it open from the inside and put a catheter in there, and really cleaned it out....of course put me in antibiotics.

two days later i came in for my follow up and she said i need to be hospitalized because it was the worse she's ever seen. ( i was in bed in severe pain for those 2 days). i went to the hospital for iv antibiotics and within 1 hour- this is gross- but i felt the cyst just bust and wobbled to the bathroom- my underwear was full of blood and pus- i told you it was gross.

i felt so much better, and thought they wouldn't do surgery-well the next morning they put me under and went in and cleaned it out and stuffed it full of gauze.

btw- ALL TESTS CAME BACK NORMAL FLORA!!! KINDA AGGRAVATING!

fast forward 4 months and i thought this was over. i just started working out again and within a week it came back. i was put on antibiotics. but i knew i needed it cut open, so i went in (without lidocaine) and they cut it open and drained it...COUNT: 4 TIMES in lil over a year!!!

So I decided I couldn't live like this...Friday I went in and had the gland removed. My doctor said it was much deeper then she would have thought...and i have stitches inside and out. When I got out, I had never been in such excrutiating pain in my life. For about 15 minutes( and on morphine) I screamed in the car because I felt as if someone was stabbing me down there. My butt and around the stitches are black and purple, and of course extremely sore.

there is numbess on my lips on that side thou, anyone deal with this? im hoping to god this is the last time i ever have to deal with this. it's emotional and physically draining!!!

i also go in on thursday to have the stitches removed

anyone have any stories or advice?

i had a " marsupialization of a bartholin's gland cyst " in oct of 98. It was horribly painful, and took awhile to heal ( i cant quite remember exactly how long " I have had problems with it ever since. I have since had 2 children, 1 in 2000 the other in 2004. Especially sinced the birth of my 2nd child, the cyst has caused more pain & pressure on a monthly basis. I was in excrutiating pain about a month ago, the cyst was actually protruding out of my vagina !! I thought I was dying, or had a prolapsed bladder, I went to my OB-GYN and he said the bartholin's gland cyst was the size of a ping pong ball, and was infected, along with a bladder infection. He put me on antibiotics for 10 days, and scheduled another marsupialization. I asked if I would continue to have problems, he said it may come back again, but that it was a " nasty & painful surgery to remove the gland and that is only done as a last resort ". Welll, I had the surgery on April 15, 2008 and when I woke up 2 hours later ( was supposed to be a 20 miinute surgery ) I was told I had lost alot of blood, the gland had to be removed, and it along with the cyst was the size of A TENNIS BALL !!!!! They kept me overnight in the hospital, sent me home 24 hrs later, after they made sure i could eat & go to the bathroom on my own. I am in SEVERE PAIN. My doctor told me I should be able to go back to work today, just 6 days later !!! IT WAS THE SIZE OF A TENNIS BALL !!!!! I AM IN EXCRUTIATING PAIN. I cant sit, can barely walk, and it hurts to stand. Needless to say, I did not return to work today, I will definitely need at the very least 2 or 3 more days. Maybe longer. He said it was the largest cyst/gland he had ever removed. I have looked over & over the internet, and only see that they "can get to be the size of a large marble" HELLO TENNIS BALL !!!!!!!!!! Does anybody have a clue how long it may be til I can sit & walk/stand without pain ?

Hi Robin,

I just had my gland removed 3 weeks ago and notice that there is what looks like a hole at the bottom right next to my vaginal opening. I'm not sure if this is where the gland was and the opening is the gland opening or not... It doesn't look like the doctor cut there as there are stitches right above this opening. Could this be similar to what you were seeing with the labia hanging? Have you gotten this resolved yet? I am just worried I will have a hole there that does not scar over and could get infected/cause pain.

Anyone seen something like this?

Thank you much,

Jen

I also just had a marsupilization performed. Mine was probably just under the size of a tennis ball - all in a matter of 2 days. Thank god I was under general anaesthetic for it - but I can only just sit down on a padded chair 12 days later. I am hoping the recovery time isn't too long!

Guys I had this cyst 2 times in 1 year. This time I could not walk or sleep, my body was exploding. I called my OBGYN and he siad he'd have to do the surgery within days, but he wanted me to try a pill called - Ciprofloxacin. After taking 1 pill, the cyst bust within 3 hours and I had my life back. I was in a store, bearly walik and all that stuff just came running out and down my leg. Instant releif.Am in New Jersey, so if you need more infor on my OBGYN let me know. I just changed OGYN and I had to call him to say thanks. The pain was gone and my baby and husband could literially touch me again. Where sex is concerned, I will abstain for a few weeks , so as to heal properly. The interesting thing is I always wash after sex and this time I did not. I have my slitz bath that I took home from having my baby and it is now my new friend, I wash every chance I get. I tip alcohol, sometimes florida water and eucalupuc oil (sp). Hope this helps. Before I forget, i've started to wash with vingegar, it make me feel better. Feel better ....

I got my bartholin's gland cyst removed in Jan of 2006, and my boyfriend recently mentioned that there was an extra hole just like the one you mentioned. I searced around a bit and found that hole... although I don't remember it ever being there before. Does anyone know what this could be, if it's healthy or not? I recently just started having sex... so could it be the stretching of my labia? It's really creeping me out.

I had a bartholin gland removed 5 1/2 weeks ago. They were supposed to remove the right gland since I had had 3 very large (ping pong ball size) abscesses that required lancing. An error was made and they removed the left. Now I am dealing with a lot of pain and drainage that I was told would be long over by now. My doctor had said I could be back to work in 4-7 days and resume intercourse in 2 weeks. What a joke! I was out of work for 3 week and still feel rotten. My new doctor told me that the sutures that were used will take 6 weeks to disolve and that the pain/welling is a reaction to the sutures. I do have a hole where they did the surgery that matches one that I have on the right from the several times I had that gland lanced after if abcesssed. In addition the left side looks deformed to me with an enlarged labia etc.. This has been a miserable experince all around.

after a week of recovering from my sugery i am still in pain. my left gland was removed and the doc. says everything is healing fine but i have this sharp pain in my outer labia it feels like needles are poking it and it kills! Even when I am not touching it it hurts and when I touch it lightly it hurts even worse! I am taking hydrocodone and it is helping the pain where the stiches are but not in my outer labia where I am feeling this sharp pain. i am wondering if anybody has experienced this and if anyone knows what is causing this to hurt so bad? Could it be from the numbing stuff they put in ..i mean could it be wearing off and it just is too painfull for the medicine to handle? Please let me know if you have any answers ive tried sitz bath ..medicine ...etc. and nothing seems to work. This sucks !

Hello,

I'm 24 years old, and I had a tough time this year at the seaside in Croatia. In a matter of 2 days, my Bartholin's gland had swollen up extraordinarily and I had to go to the doctors in a foreign country. They first sent me home with a pack of antibiotics, but I was back the next day, the swelling getting even bigger and more painful. By the time I got to the hospital, I couldn't walk anymore. At the arrival there, 4 gynecologists took a look at it and couldn't believe their eyes. It says in my medical documents they gave me, that it was the size of a MAN'S FIST. So, I guess I beat the tennis ball huh? :-) They immediately operated on me, I could just barely take off my shoes. They performed marsupalization and immediately as I woke up, I felt SO much better. I could sit up and walk! It was a miracle! This was yesterday.
Now I'm searching the internet to find useful advice for the weeks after. I read about the sitz bath (thank you).. but is there anything else? Should I stay away from coffee, cigarettes or anything for that matter? When can I revive my sex life again?
Any information will be helpful. Thank you all!

Hi I had a Bartholin cyst removed 2 wks ago, and i wish i hadn't. The pain afterward was terrible and still having the pain, did not know i would still be out of work because i can't sit comfortably, yet. I hope this surgery resolves my problem if not, i will have to take this one to the grave with me, i can take the pain for 4-5 days at the most. My doctor told me i would be back to my normal life in about 1 wk.....she was so wrong. So please try and get as much information from your gyn before you decide to make this decision .

I am nervous. I am 56 years old and have been struggling with this thing for over three years now. Mine seems to be very deep and about the size of a golf ball. Will write more about it when I can sit afterwards.
