Bruce,

I am far from a doctor but this happens to me all the time. There is a rib in my back that pulls out of its socket or where its suppose to sit, its very painfull and I cant breathe. Sometimes the pain is so bad it feels like someone took a sledge hammer to my back. I is usually a pulled muscle or extreme muscle spasm and I go get a massage and it goes away. It just happen to me this morning so I am going tonight to get a massage. If desperate I will go to the chiro to see if he can pop it back in. This happens all the time to 3 of my friends also. It comes on with stress alot.

Have you ever gone to a chiropractor? A poorly aligned spinal column can cause these type pains. Ck for tilted pelvis, etc that may be related to a fall or other "jerking" done to spine. (Seat belt jerking from sudden and hard braking, etc!) Any part of spine can effect another and the nerves of that area causing "referred pains". Pinching on nerves can cause intermittent and random pain episodes. Compression fractures are more common than people may think. Etc, etc. I have the same type pain basically caused by all the above.

I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER A BOARD WITH HOOKS FELL ON MY BACK. X RAYS SHOWED NOTHING. MUCH LATER I FOUND MYSELF WITH BLADDER INFECTION. SEVERAL THINGS SEEM TO HELP. SITTING IN AN ARM CHAIR AND RAISING MYSELF UP ON THE CHAIR --ARMS STRAIGHT. KEEPING MYSELF STRAITGHTENRED UP. LIE ON THE BED ON YOUR LEFT SIDE PUT YOUR RIGHT HAND BEHIND YOUR HEAD PALM ON THE PILLOW AND PRESS DOWN ON THE PILLOW. SWITCH SIDES. ANOTHER EXERCISE WHICH SEEMS TO HELP IS TO LY ON YOUR BACK HANDS CLASPED BEHIND YOUR HEAD KNEES BENT AND SIMPLY ROLL YOUR HIPS OVER TO ONE SIDE AND JUST LY THERE. IT GIVES A NICE STRETCH! SWITCH TO THE OTHER SIDE. I NOTICED DRINKING FENNEL TEA SEEMED TO HELP. IT TASTES AWFULL! I PULL UP THE WHOLE PLANT CUT THE ROOTS OFF RINSE AND PUT IN A POT BRING TO A BOIL AND THEN SIMMER TILL COOKED WITH PLENTY OF SALT. I ALSO CUT UP MINT AND MAKE A TEA OF IT. I PUT 2 LADDELS FULL OF FENNEL1 LADDEL FULL OF MINT TEA IN A LARGE CUP AND DRINK IT. THE MINT TEA MAKES IT TASTE BETTER. I AM NOT RUNNING TO THE BATHROOM ALL THE TIME EITHER. I ALSO DRINK 1 TO 2 GLASSES OF CRANBERRY JUICE. THE PAIN SEEMS TO BE GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME. I GROW FENNEL AND MINT. HOPE IT HELPS!

Before my gall bladder removal, a co-worker warned me that the worst part could be gas pain due to the air that gets inside the body cavity during surgery. I was so glad she mentioned this (doctors did not warn me at all) because I had extremely sharp back and shoulder pains after the surgery. I would have been in a panic if I had not realized that this was probably gas and that eventually it would subside, which it did. If I had experienced it for a long period of time I would have tried two things which you may want to try yourself. First I would start a program of mild stretching which would involve the arms and upper torso. Sometimes gas can be relieved this way as it causes burps as it leaves the body. I think a person who is stressed can hold gas in any part of the body including muscles, not just the intestinal tract. I would also start seeing my chiropractor because spinal misalignment can happen during a surgical procedure just by the way the body is positioned and moved. If any part of the spine needs adjustment it could be affecting nerves in the back, chest, neck, shoulder, etc. I hope you find at least one of these suggestions helpful. Sometimes it is the simple answers that are the best and too often we have to find our own solutions (and then pay the Dr for our telling him/her what the problem is!)

I to am having simular symtoms. sore more than pain, Dr. did blood work. checked out fine. Sent me to a VERY GOOD Chiorpractor-physician two treatments felt much better.( she is on a week vacation) I feel the difference. Two treatments next week. Possible bad posture? If Not siting up straifgt get real pain straight across back under ribs. I have not ruled out gall bladder problems. Feel fine other than this discomfort.

I've had similar pain off and on for the past couple years. I had been I the hospital because the first time it happened I was pregnant with my son. After an echocardiogram and a few more tests I was diagnosed with Paricarditis, which is the inflammation of the sac/membrane around the heart. Over the counter anti inflammatory pain relievers help with the pain. Hope this helps

My pain is all on right side. I have mutiple G. Stones which I am guessing could be a part of problem. But I do have problems in neck. Maybe they all tie in together.

You may simply have ghost pain it occurs when something is removed or an injury is fixed its your nerve still trying to send messages to the affected area because its not there the brain still recognizes the last received message from that area

I just went to the 3rd chiropractor and after 10 years of pain in my right shoulder they found a rib out. Every time I took a breath laying on my back with my arms crossed it was so painful and hard to breath. I am all good now

My sister had the same pain in the same areas! Poor thing she suffered a lot! She ended up having blood clots in her lungs. I forgot what The name of it was called! It's on the tip of my tongue! Anyway she went through so much testing and nobody was believing her! The Dr's thought that she was just going into the hospital for pain pills- being that she was so young (27) and here in New Mexico we have a huge addiction problem to pain pills. She had just given birth to twins 4 months prior. (C-section) I came across your post because I'm having pain on the right lower part of my body and my shoulder blade. I haven't gone to the doctor yet, however I will be going in tomorrow. This pain has been going on since Tuesday which has been about five or six days. ANYWAY... Did you ever find out what was going on with you? I would like to know how you are doing? I hope you are doing OK!
