Im nearly 37,have never been on birth control and never pregnant (to my knowledge).
I get extremely painful periods, have been told i have polycystic ovaries but suspect i have endometriosis also due to the severity of pain (or as the very unhelpful and arrogant gynaecologist liked to put it 'its to be expected in someone of your age + youll have to go on birth control or just put up with it, wont you!' - this, despite i was seeing him witg regards to fertility+having children)
Anyhow, i also have painful, sore + cracked nipples. Sometimes the right one even splits at the side + cream doesnt seem to work. They didnt used to be that way, although they have always remained big when the res of me lost weight, but now i have loads of mini cysts around them + cant bear to have them touched they feel so sore. Sometimes they look like they're going to leak but dont. I think it is definitely linked to hormones, possibly also the polycystic ovaries in my case.
I think i read somewhere that an imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone may have something to do with it. Dont know if that helps or if someone can find some further information on this. I cant remember the site i found it on.

If you want to know if you are pregnant your nipples will looks a creamy colour not so dark, and if you can try nipping it and it creamy fid liquid comes out then i would advice you too see doctors.

I found some reasons online, for tender/hurting nipples :
Drinking too much caffeine (tea, coffee, aerated drinks)
Stress
Changes in hormone levels
When you're about to have your period

I am 19... having the same problem, my nipples has recently today started to hurt. The pain subsides for a moment, then it comes back and it gets aching sore. There is no way I am pregnant (for I am a virgin) and if someone knows the answer would appreciate an answer so that I know that it isn't anything serious...

When your nipples hurt it often just means that you're ovulating... a hormone progesterone (i think) is released whilst ovulating and causes stretching in the breast tissue. This is why they hurt. I'm 21 and incur the same thing. So there's nothing to worry about. If the problem persists for 7 to 10 days then you might be pregnant.

I'm a dude and my right nipple hurts when i touch, but just on a little spot. It feels like some gland or maybe a tumor. I'm guessing it's was a strong push or a sharp thing that went against my nipple, but i can't recall. by the way I'm totally healthy, 17 years old, 1.80 meters, about 70kg, i eat more or less healthy. I just don't practice a lot of physical activity. I came here just to be sure its nothing. If it happened to anyone here please do tell =P

Hey! I'm 18 and my nipples have been sore for a few days. My period should be coming in the next few days, but I can't remember if my nipples have been like this previously around when I get my period. I was wondering if it might just be my breasts groeing (?), but I'm not sure. I keep searching for answers, but I keep getting thins for pregnant women and those who are breast feeding, it's impossible for me to be prgo, so ya...wish I knew what was going on...maybe I'll just have to talk to my doctor. %-)

I'm only 12 and they've been hurting for the last 2 days. Everytime I lie down they hurt like hell, when I touch them they get even sorer. I don't have a clue because I'm only 12 and it'd be silly being pregant at 12. So my Mom will hopefully phoned the doctor ASAP

I'm only 11, haven't got my period and am definitely not pregnant. My nipples are really sore but not swollen. It feels like there is something underneath them but there isn't. Whenever I hug someone or touch them the hurt. Anyone have any Ideas?

Yes!Yes!yes! My nipples have been sore lately. Like they reallyyyyy irriatate me. But like during the past week, they are itchy, and now they hurt. Ladies I have been doing research, and irritated nipples or sore tender breast could be a sure sign of PREGNANCY...YES I JUST SAID PREGNANCY!!!!!! IT IS BEST IF YOU GO TO THE DOC 2 SEE WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON. IT COULD BE OVULATION, PMS, ALL DUE TO HORMONAL CHANGES. TAKE CARE.... :-P

I'm 19 and this morning I woke up with JUST my right nipple hard and sore and when I press on it, it hurts. I'm not pregnant, I know that for a fact because I'm gay. Also, I didn't get my period this month so maybe it's hormonal changes. I'm not sure. I've been searching but I can't find anything concrete on this. Also, like a week ago my breasts were itchy......so maybe they're just growing. Gahh I don't know. Someone please help.

Well I'm not a biochemist... but sore, hard nipples and Not pregnancy related?

Sounds like they are just inflamed.

Reasons for inflamed nipples (apart from a possible infection... you would know if they were infected...) is that you could be at your post-ovulation phase and your hormone levels have cause the inflammation.

Could be the cause of your birth control pills... depending on how those - specific to you - work. Some implement the use of HCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin hormone produced during pregnancy) and others change your hormone levels to help make it Harder to become pregnant... if you understand the way menstruation works. Birth Control pills do not stop ovulation and they don't stop your period unless you never stop taking them for that week (which is Very dangerous to do). During ovulation you are just as likely to become pregnant, so please use a condom for a week or more after you finish your period.

It's birth Control, not birth Prevention.

It could also be your diet... such as eating foods that spike your blood sugar levels.

If you're still worried, I know you hate this but... call a medical help line. I wouldn't suggest going to the doctor unless this has been a problem for months on end and you cannot point it on your hormone levels or what you're eating.
