I have abdominal stents and have followup ultrasounds done every 3-6 months. They hurt!! Once, the day after the ultasound I had bruises on my abdomen! So i can relate to the pain.

I thought it was just me. All the literature says painless and no risks. I've had 4 abdominal ultra sound series this past year for a couple of issues (hernia and gallstones). The technicians have been great, I can't fault them. They always ask and apologize if pressing too hard, which they don't, and honestly it's not painful during. It's after that I feel it. The next day usually and it feels like someone has used me for a punching bag. I expect to see bruises but nothing visible. Lasts about a week, until this last one, after my guts did their own beat down from the gallbladder attack. This last one is going on past two weeks now and my family doctor could only offer that it shouldn't hurt and maybe I'm sensitive. Whatever. At least now I know it's not that rare.

Glad to see I,m not alone...I have been having pain under my breast (on both sides) for about a year..Dr. had me take an ultrasound yesterday and it hurt like a muhhh but i bit down thru it...Lady almost made me jump off the bed..I was previously diagnosed with fatty liver disease but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.I should get my results next week...Was hoping to see some diagnoses just to see what this may be..

Hi, I'm reading this thread in March 2022. Did anyone here ever find out a true cause for the excruciating pain when you had the gallbladder ultrasound?
I have been sick for 8+ years & its continuing to worsen. I have episodes/attacks daily that are a worse type of suffering (not necessarily on a physical pain level) than any chronic pain that I've experienced- which is alot bc of many spine problems, etc...
When I went to the er last year (before I lost all hope that any er would ever help me) they did a gallbladder ultrasound & it was horrible painful just as many of you have described. Of course, my results were "normal" as well.
I was diagnosed with heartburn. I went to a diff er a few months later & they diagnosed me with heartburn as well bc bloodwork came back mostly within normal range, as always.
This is NOT heartburn - not typical nor atypical. Antacids & Carafate make me much much worse. I finally gave in & tried Protonix for 2 weeks which made me bedridden.
I've been to soooo many specilists and now drs are starting to say it's anxiety related. As I was sitting in my gastro Dr's office & having an episode, he told me that whats happening during these episodes is that I start to feel my IBS-C pain and then start having panic attacks & hyperventilating - all this he says to me as I'm sitting in front of him perfectly calm.
I then asked about the flushing on my chest/face during these episodes. I lightly touched my chest as I also explained the heat - he said "well, I just saw you rub on your chest so that's the reason".
If I hadn't been so forced to fight for me and my body and become the strongest best advocate I could be with the help of my counselor, I'd admit myself to a mental health hospital bc these doctors are making me feel like I'm losing my mind.
My neurologist even looked at my symptom list of only the symptoms I wrote down that could be neurological and said these exact words "I mean it's like total system shut downs. You wouldn't be worse off if you were decapitated".
There is a medical reason why these ultrasounds caused us so much pain. I don't know what that is but I know that it is not ok and it absolutely is not normal for an ultrasound to cause so much pain! The lady who did mine was gentle and didn't even press very hard, it was the constant and contracted pressure on my gallbladder that caused me to start crying in pain.
Please don't ever stop fighting for answers. ♡♡
