I am glad I found this website.  I just came home from 5 days in the hospital of having a acute pancreatitis attack.  I have been sufffering with pain for years.  They removed my gallbladder in December because it was diseased and non-functioning.  I had another pancreatitis attack in April of this year.  I went in for an ERCP to remove a gallstone that was in my duct of my pancreas.  I came home from that only to be back in the ER four hours later with the worst pain ever.  My pancreas enzymes were over 15,000.  I am home now but my back is still hurting.  I didn't have stomach pain and they kept asking me that in the hospital.  My pain is under my left shoulder blade.  I hope once it calms down the pain goes with it.  The change in my diet is going to be the hardest and to stop drinking.  I don't drink a lot but socially with friends a few times a month.  I surely don't want to endure that again so I will change my lifestyle and my diet if it means I don't have to endure that again.

Hello All

I had my first attack in Jan 2013...a severe acute attack which included 10 days in hospital I had very little pain after the attack, ate what i wanted and ate lots of red grapes

The grapes in the supermarket were getting very ordinary so i stopped eating them, then about a month to six weeks later i noticed pain at my pancreas. The pain was getting worse,i felt nauseas so i went to out patients thinking i was having an attack (false alarm)

After taking GRAPE SEED EXTRACT Pills for a week the pain was all but gone

After two weeks the pain has gone except when i sneeze

All i can say is get on the GRAPE SEED TABLETS........I AM NOT KIDDING

Also my eyesight(near sighted) has improved that much the glasses are going into mothballs soon if they keep improving

I too just recovered from acute pancreatitis. No doctor can find a reason why. I don't drink at all. I am on a fat free diet. Just can't give up my coffee. I do smoke, cut it down to about 5 a day. Nicotine withdrawal lasted more then 12 says, plus menopausal, butch city lol. I'm just scared of having another attack. I want to eat red meat, they say that's a no no. Not sure if I should try it, probably my senses will win out. So not worth going thru that again for a Piece of meat. What are the chances of getting another attack, since no one knows what caused it in the first place????? Any info is welcomed. I too am glad I found this site. Helps to learn how others are coping.

Me too, Kristin. I'm 39, have had chronic pancreatitis for at least 4 years. I'm not on birth control pills and never have been. And still, each month I get a significant flare-up "that time of the month".

So glad to find this post. I had an necrotizing acute pancreatitis while travelling in Oct 2012. The reason is still unknown. I was an occasional drinker that too only beer and non smoker. It was maybe because i had a really unhealthy lifestyle. I used to eat a lot of junk food and not exercise at all. I was over weight 110 kg height 5'10" age 24. It was really painful but i lost a lot of weight. I lost 22 kg in hospital. I was in hospital for around 15-20 days. I followed a strict diet for around 3 months i.e. Non oily food No breads No fattening food No junk food No chocolates, icecreams and biscuits No cheese No frozen food and now i eat everything but i avoid overeating. I am 90 kg now and I workout 5-6 days a week including weight lifting. I have been taking natural proteins like egg whites, chicken and i have been drinking milk two times a day. Recently i have been thinking about taking whey protein. Can anyone suggest me weather i shud take whey protein zero carb or normal whey protein? Would it cause me any trouble?

Wow, this is all so informative. I had acute pancreatitis and went to the hospital with what I thought was food poisoning. They said my numbers were very dangerous and quizzed me like I was an alcoholic or drug user. I don't do either. I was there for 9 days. They couldn't find any gallstones but thought MAYBE some sludge had got in the duct. They decided to remove my gallbladder. I have noticed that I can no longer drink carbonated beverages and get frequent episodes of gas. I've never had that problem before. They didn't give me any diet restrictions, other than to say that high fat food could send me running to the bathroom. I am terrified, especially after reading all these posts, that I'm going to get it again. Why are there no diets specified for this??? It sounds like a life debilitating problem! I am able to eat most everything but have been taking a probiotic. I wonder if this is why I'm not having more problems. If anyone knows, please advise.
My heart breaks for all you sufferers and I thank God I'm not worse!

Thanks for excellent tips. Facing fourth surgery in five weeks with no relief in sight. Anxious to try your apple butter. Was afraid to try salsa, which I love, but will try it tonight.

My son had an acute pancreatitis attack back in March and then, again, in September. The ER doctor told him that he absolutely had to stop drinking or he would die. You need to stop drinking. Is it worth your life? Think about it.
