My son was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis in September. He stopped drinking any alcohol completely. It was recommended that he also stop smoking. He's working on that. I can see that smoking may be contributing to his symptoms. Low-fat diet and several small meals each day instead of 3 large meals were recommended. Stress seems to bring on a flare-up. He's going to start going to the gym again to reduce stress.

I'm 48 and have chronic pancreatitis'. I had to have my gall bladder removed. Your diet no cokes, high in fat or fried foods, no avocados, no white bleached foods like white rice, white bread, you can have grilled food as long as it has no burnt markings on it, brown markings are fine. You can have dark green leafy vegs and you can have fresh fruits or frozen. NO processed foods.

Hello, I suffered my first attack of acute pancreatitis a month ago. Was in the hospital for 10 days and probably would have been longer if it wasn't for me begging to get out for Christmas. I feel like I've had a lot of symptoms throughout the years like feeling full right after I started eating and back pain and then feeling like there was some kind a bubble under my sternum and like a band under my ribs especially my right ribs which feel like they are bruised and achy. I have not returned to work or my regular schedule at this point and I'm wanting to do that. My last test results showed good improvement but I still am experiencing a lot of pain and a lot of back pain so I'm not sure if I should push to go back to work or is this something that I'm just going to have to live with. Is the pain on going all the time or will it stop? I'm still taking just protein shakes and blenderized foods because everything else Gives me pain about 20 min after eating. I generally just don't feel very well and struggle with the pain of it and also the boringness of what to eat and get enough calories. so I have been out of the hospital for a little less than 20 days. Any thoughts for me on what to expect or should I be going back to work and just dealing with the pain of it and the fact that I am not eating regular other than shakes and blenderized food. I get nervous to try new things to eat because and I have pain so any advice would be helpful thank you, Melinda

Stop drinking!!! I almost died n January when a pseudocyst began to leak and caused me to go into septic shock... I had a 34/52bp by the time I got to the hospital and was in ICU the next 6 days intubated. Luckily the ICU dr that told my husband to call family and friends to say goodbye to me because he wasn't sure he could save me, was able to! I only drank occasionally and don't have a clue where the cyst came from since I was not a heavy drinker, but I'd say don't risk it! It's not worth your life. I am now hopefully on my final drain tube that I will have removed soon! But the days I've dealt with this disease for the last 7 months are not worth one drink for me!!

Hello, my pain is only during my period as well. Now I'm self diagnosing myself, I've been to Dr's but no one can explain the pain in my stomach. But during my period is when I have the pancreas attack. Liquid diet for a few days and bed rest. I don't have insurance so getting into see a dr during my 4 day period is impossible. But I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I'm not on any medication .

Not sure how long ago this was written or if you have found some answers but if not you might do some reading about mast cell disorders. If you have other symptoms that line up with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, this could be the underlying disease process causing your pancreatitis symptoms. Estrogen is a known mast cell activator and pancreatitis a documented response. It's all too long to go into here and goodness knows hard to find Doctors who know about it or know how to help but I've found relief from my chronic pancreatitis pain and now just deal with an acute flare now and again. Look up Dr Theoharides and Dr Afrin, both have some good explanatory videos on youtube. Dr Theoharides has a website with links to his research articles. Dr Afrin just wrote a book that is accessible to the lay reader with a (long) glossary of the terms at the end. It is excellent and acknowledges how many of us made to feel crazy and labeled with somatic symptoms when in fact we have a real disease process. Hope this is not me going on about something irrelevant. In Solidarity!
