My anus has been burning for over 6 months now, I am so tired of this. and no solution in sight. bummer!!!! pardon the pun,,, I'm depressed over this, it's ruining my life.
I have the exact same problem as described and have been desperatly been searching 4 an answer ti it. i am a 26 year old and have had these sympoms 4 6 months and nothinging so far has made it better.
If any one has found anything out hat may help please post as it is unbearable
anyone experience pencil stools with the itching and irritation?
I also am having the same problems.. and its not something anyone really wants to talk about. I have been married for 7 years and I cant lie.. at first i was like.. OMG what did he bring home to me.. But I can see other people are feeling this too..
Itching.. ...ohh the itching.. and the burning.. Liking pouring salt on a wound.. Does NOT feel good. I'm searching Google tonight with the hopes of finding out what to do about it.

my perineum is very red.. and i dont think it really itchs me .. but the pain.. Right now Im sitting on an Ice pack...which seems to help a little. I dont know what to do about it... When I wipe.. it feels like im rubbing sand paper on my bum/vagina.. and sometimes.. I know it sounds crazy.. when Im wiping.. it hurts but feels good. not like sexually or nothing.. no way.. but like.. the itch.. you just cant stop scratching..

I wish I knew how to get rid of this.. I've had it now for about 2 months.. I want it to stop!! :-(
I know exactly what you are talking about. I am using a cream that I found at the drug store called Gynecort. It seems to help, better than hemroid creams. I read that you might want to try vaceline to keep the area moist not dry. Let me know if you find anything
This has been bothering me too, in fact it has been for almost two years now and though I have been to many doctors they haven't been able to verifiably diagnose it .... it feels like my rectum is on fire, they gave me treatments for hemmroids .... tried antibiotics and they even gave me a sterhoid to try to reduce the inflamation....... while some things helped temporarily nothing really worked. If I clean with baby wipes it helps alot, though if I don't dry it after wiping it will burn even more..... taking a sitz bath seems to help too. I have tried several different diets and nothing has eliminated it, though its not as bad if I stay away from low fiber foods such as red meat. french fries. cheese etc. because of the straining with bowel movements and hard stools that they cause......... if someone has an answer to what this is I would really like to know?
Well I have the same.exact. symptoms as the original poster... only difference is that I am a guy!! I've been to doctors over the years (yes, unfortunately, it's been around for years) and they usually don't seem to concerned, say its probably hemmoroids, but I'm not so sure either. no doctor has really had any clue what I was talking about, I've been to about 3, all seem to think it will just go away. so after about 5 years of dealing with this I gave up on the medical community and took matters into my own hands... mainly, trying to be a little healthier in general. I quit smoking (smoking always made it noticeably worse... I think it dried me up), and try to drink a lot of water and eat better. I hate to be gross but when wiping, just pat the paper, don't wipe it can irritate it further. The problem hasn't really seemed to get any better - or any worse. And after 5 years I am still so I'm not that worried, just wish this would some day go away. Painkillers help too but I was taking way too much Advil and realized that's probably not good... so I use Aspirin now.. taking that every day is supposed to prevent heart problems, it also seems to work great for this problem, so why not. But honestly when I am being really good healthwise (eating lots of veg, drinking lots of fluids, not drinking too much alcohol, and absolutely NO smoking!) the pain does get managable. I'll check this board again in a few weeks with the hope that some kind soul out there knows what the hell is going on and has any ideas! I wish you the best of luck.
I've had the same symptoms described above for a few years. Lately I've just gotten sick of it, and have finally decided to do something about it. My first thought was just jock itch. I used a jock itch anti fungal and cortizone cream to help with the itching. However, after treating with Lotrimin AF for a week with little to no improvement, I realized that the source of my itching started in the anus area and eventually moved to the perineum over the course of time. My latest theory is pinworms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinworm. I've recently taken some Reeses pinworm treatment to see if that helps...so far no itching! Pinworms can be a pain in the arse (literaly!!) to get rid of, so hopefully my steps for getting rid of them take hold. There are some great articles on the net for helping to stop the spread and proliferation of them. I'll post back with any results I have.
I'm a 23 year old female and I have had the same symptoms as SCUD42 since the middle of September, itching and discomfort which originated in my anal area and now is mainly affecting my perineum and the vaginal opening. It's often worse at night and early in the morning. I too suspected pinworms since I worked with kids. I took an over the counter medication for pinworms, equivalent to Reese's and I didn't notice any difference. No one else in my house has any symptoms similar to mine not even my husband who recently left for Iraq. Makes me think it isn't pinworms but I still followed all the necessary steps to eradicate them. I've been to the gyn 5 times since November and most recently to a urologist. The gyn prescribed medication for a yeast infection several times in the form of creams and diflucan pills with no relief. I had several cultures done, blood drawn and everything came back negative. In February I had a urineanalysis which came back positive for Group B Strep. I took penicillin for 7 days with barely any noticable relief. My gyn thought I had urethritis or a UTI and suggested I see the urologist. The male urologist told me that "visibly everything looked OK" and basically that there was nothing he could do for me. I have an appointment with another urologist (a female) in two weeks and an appointment with a different gyn in the beggining of May. I've changed soaps, wear cotton underwear, used an over the counter cortisone cream, a prescription antifungal topical cream, desitin, vaseline and nothing is getting rid of the itching. This itching and discomfort is driving me crazy and it seems like it's just getting worse. I can't possibly imagine having this "for a few years" and I wish someone had an answer for me. Please help!!
I have had this problem off and on for many years. I'll get a flare-up that generally starts with itching and then goes to pain and bleeding. The pain is sometimes very intense. I saw a gastroenterologist a few years ago. His diagnosis was anal fissures which are small tears in the anus. Here is some info that might help you:

"Application of a 0.2% nitroglycerin ointment may help heal a long-term (chronic) tear, or fissure, in the anus. You rub a pea-sized dot of cream on the fissure twice a day.

An increase in muscle tension, also called resting pressure, in the internal anal sphincter can lead to fissures. Spasms and reduced blood flow to the anus may occur along with the rise in pressure, causing fissures or keeping existing fissures from healing.

Several studies have found that nitroglycerin ointment heals chronic fissures in more than 60% of cases. In one study, fissures returned in 27% of people.

Headaches are the main side effect of nitroglycerin ointment. One-third to one-half of the people in these studies had headaches. The risk of headaches and lightheadedness from low blood pressure is especially high if you use too much ointment at one time. "
Honestly, the ointment makes me feel like I'm going to die for about 15 minutes...

This does not make the problem go away completely. This will sound funny, but my doctor says some people just have a tighter anus than others (yes, you are a tight ass). The advise I have read on this post is true in that diet has a lot to do with preventing the problem.

Incidentally, I began reading this post because I am having a bad flare-up and was looking for help and advise too. I'm a 36 year old male and have been drawn to tears from the pain in front of my wife and children. You know, unless you feel it, you just can't understand.... and you just can't talk about it either.

Ice helps decrease the swelling sometimes, a nice hot bath relaxes the muscle and eases the pain. I have not had much luck with hemerhoidal creams and they usually just iritate the area. A good treatment I have found is applying triple-antibiotic cream with pain relief like Neosprin +pain. It usually works for a while and reapplication is necessary. Plus it helps heal the area.

While I don't want any of you to endure this agony, I am happy to know that I am not alone. Go see a gastroenterologist and suggest anal fissures.

Good luck
yeah, it really hurts doesn't it. Those of you who have noticed a tear, it's called an Anal Fissure. Man does it hurt. The symptoms are very similar to Hemroids. I'm experiencing it right now. Be careful about how much creams you put on as it can prolong healing. It's a cut so treat it as such. Keep it clean and sanitary don't poke, pull or prod at it. Also, go get some Ducloax stool softner. This will turn big pieces of poop into mush so they don't damage it further on the way out.
Has anyone of you had colonics done? Because I'm beginning to experience the same problems this unbearable burning and I cannot figure out what is causing it! I don't eat spicy foods and I try to eat alot of fiber and the only thing I can come up with is that it may have been a reaction to the colonics i had done a few months ago. That was the only thing that has come close to my anus.
I'm experiencing the same issues as mentioned on this forum and I'm a guy. It started in the rectal/anus area, a burning/itching sensation, especially after bowel movements. Shortly after I began experiencing tingling burning around the penis/testicles. The burning around this area has stopped after a week or so, but the tingling (wierd feeling) is still there.
I've been to a couple of doctors, including a Urologist/Dermatolgist, (its been 7 weeks now), and I've been tested for every STD...all are negative. I'm applying a anti fungal and steriod cream, along with a anti fungal powder, although this seems to help the genitals somewhat, my rectal/anus area is the same...so i've discontinued use there.
I also experience mild bleeding once in a while after a bowel movement, and the area remains wet as I continue to blot it dry for about 4 hrs after a bowel movement. I think there might be a slight cut. I don't have hemroids...docs checked for that or a UTI.

Now I'm feeling weird muscle cramps/spasms in the butt checks and other parts of the body. and sometime very short (a second or so) sharp pains in lower back..although not frequent. Maybe this is due to lack of sleep, avg 4-5 hrs a day for the past 7 weeks since i'm very concerned.

Anyone have an idea of what is the issue here!? Please help!!
I was so glad to find all these posts. I try not to talk EVER about my itching, burning, flaking sore bum. I've talked to my OB/GYN and she prescribed a steroid cream. I've also tried prescription medication for psoriasis, vaseline, aquafor, cortain, neosporin and even diaper rash cream desitin. My husband looks at me weird all the time as I constantly itch. The itching while I'm sleeping at night is almost unbearable. It itches, I scratch, I bleed and it SCALES. I pick the scales, it itches and I start all over again. I had a colonoscopy 6 months ago to rule out hemmorhoids. Not that - my colon area is completely healthy. No fissures. This will kill me, but I think I'm going to try and cut down on the sugar because I'm a major sugar-aholic. That and drink more water. I'll post in a month to see if it's gotten better, because nothing has worked in the past and I've been suffering with this for almost 10 years.
I have had this problem on and off for years now. The severe pain, chapped skin, severe itching (like poisen ivey), in the anal and pernium area. There are splits in the skin and it seems to ooze fluid. I have been to the dr... he just gives me a cortizone cream, which only mildly helps. I have figured out that when I use bleach in my underwear, (whites).. the itching is more severe, and breakouts worse. I started thinking about how when you mix ammonia and bleach together it creates clorine gas which is very toxic. We have ammonia in urine... ( google up urine and bleach and you can read this). When we use bleach in laundry it doesnt all wash out, you can usually smell the bleach after the clothes are dry. When we sweat or 'have some leakage' in our underwear, the clorine gas is activated from the combination, thus causing the severe reaction on our skin. I know that when I wear underwear that is colored, my symptoms start to subside. I hope this information helps others, because I have felt your pain!
