I also have the same numb/tingling sensation in my mid back on the left side below the shoulder blade. I also have the same feeling on the right side of my face (cheek), feels like bugs are crawling up and down my back it's awful!! kinda tingly and itchy, ugh I cringe just thinging of the feeling. Have been to a Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, and GP, and am now being sent to a Neurologist. Some of the testing done showed no knee jerk reaction, and blood tests done and was positive for ANA (Anti-nuclear Antibodies) which are found in people with LUPUS or MS (Auto-immune diseases). I am also having other symptoms along with the numb/tingling sensations, such as Dizziness, loss of balance, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties. It's been months and still do not even have an appointment with a Neurologist yet. Still waiting for a diagnosis.. Have an appointment in March to see a Rheumatologist to rule out LUPUS. Fun fun..
I have the same symptoms, and like you am being sent to a Neurologist and a Rheumatologist. I also have a few other symptoms on top of the tingling though.. I also have dizziness, loss of balance, cognitive difficulties, and fatigue.. The doctor thinks it could be early stage LUPUS or MS.. still waiting to see the doctors for a proper diagnosis.
I have the same thing and just got upper and lower back MRIs done- the neurologist couldn't find a thing. It is driving me NUTS!!

It's hard to believe this thread has been going on for like five years and no one has offered any solid solutions or answers.
I got the weird itchy sensation under my left shoulder blade a few days after after I mildly pinched my right sciatic nerve last week (by "mildly" I mean, I couldn't move my right leg for about an hour and now it's just a dull pain in my lower back). Upon reading through sooo many forums, I think it has to do with the nerves in the back in combination with tight shoulder(s) and neck muscles. I'm pretty sore all the time from my job (lots of heavy lifting and moving) and once I have the time, I'd like to go to a masseuse to have them loosened up.
If that doesn't solve it, I'll see a chiropractor (I've never been). I'd advice not going to your doctor, because they tend to give you pain meds and not actually fix the problem.
For reference, I'm 22 and female.
The chiropractor is where I'm headed next. No more doctors, I agree... doesn't seem to get anywhere with this particular problem.
there have been several solid solutions/answers you just need to find them in the feed. So far chiropractic and massage have solved the problem for several people including myself.
Interesting... I have the same tingling sensation that has been described here. Additionally, my right arm hand go numb and tingle when "waking up". I am a software engineer and I am on a computer most of the weekdays. It sounds like the best solution maybe to visit a chiropractor from what I read here.
YES! It's getting more noticeable and consistent as I sit here reading these posts :)
Yes. every single one. I can't stop laughing at some of these posts...the guy with TMS? like WHO thinks of that!?!?! rage... no. whenever i smoke my body becomes extra sensitive to certain things as well so that's normal. I am assuming that it's just a pinched/damaged nerve because large nerves do surface near the skin and then go back into thick tissue. I'm going to talk to my chiropractor so I'll let ya know. otherwise we are all turning into zombie rage robots with TMS. watch out world! :P
I am so glad I have found you all on here! I was so worried I might be in the beginning stage of Arachnoiditis. Has anyone heard of it? I haven't read anyone talking about it yet. Its a neurological disease that is caused by an inflamed arachnoid that can be caused by epidural injections. Its so rare that the doctors don't even know about it. I did get an epidural during labor 9 months ago. I will try the exercises and see what happens. I am experiencing the same exact symptoms as you all. I have had a sciatic nerve problem for 6 years also. Everyone read up on Arachnoiditis. It is chronic pain for the rest of your life with no cure! The idea of having it scares the c**p out of me and everyone should know about this terrible disease and also don't get epidurals!
To summarise. The tingling in some cases is the lower trapezius muscle or lower rhomboid. This is caused by poor posture with the shoulder blades becoming elevated over time (eg desk sitting, computer sitting). This is why all of you feel it when sat and after long days at work, ie your shoulder blades are riding up and pulling on a weak muscle. It typically goes away when laid down or in bed.
I have posted links in the past to very simple you tube videos that show exercises to work the weakened lower trapezius area. You also need to work on loosening the tight upper back muscles (eg upper trap & elevator scapulae) and resolving the poor posture or it will never go away. This is why Chiro can often help with it as it loosens the muscles.
I have solved the problem with this approach and at least one other person has posted it worked for them too. Too many people on this thread post without reading prior threads and think there is a manic answer to the problem (eg take a pill to fix it or see doctor x). Well there isn't in most cases although some may have genuine medical conditions.
Happy to discuss further.
So far the only thing I have found that seems to have helped is Acupuncture. I went to see practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine and they treated me several time with Acupuncture needles. This did not seem to do much, but then they tried this machine that mimics acupuncture, but doesn't pierce the skin. I have definitely noticed an improvement in the tingling since being treated with it.
I wanted to give the group an update since my last visit to this post. I also was experiencing significant tingling on my mid back, shoulder areas and after doing some of the exercises and stretches recommended earlier, my condition has greatly improved. I realize that the core issue may be different for some, but by doing simple shoulder and back exercises in combination with regular stretching helps relieve and likely correct the problem in the long run. I still experience minor tingling from time to time but is very minor and doesn't last long. I also begin to correct my posture as I am sure this had much to do with the eventual problems. Most of us now sit in front of computers, use tablets and mobile phones that require hunching and neck bending continuously. It's just a matter of time for us to have issues if we sit and stand in incorrect posture. Search the web and you'll realize how big of an issue this has become and am sure will continue to be given all the electronic devices we now depend on.
A follow up to my previous post.
The deep tissue massage definitely worked out the strain on my sciatic nerve! The tingling under my shoulder didn't go away though, at first. My masseuse gave me some stretches to do (because it turns out I'm very tight in my legs) and I can now say that the tingling has almost vanished. It comes back every now and again, I'm sure it'll be a matter of time. I'm guessing it was some sort of nerve bundle connected to the sciatic area, as was speculated.
