yes, i am experiencing this and i am 59 and on HRT,
This has also happened to me. I do not have periods, but both time I flew in an airplane I stated to spot a few days later.
This happens to me! It doesn't matter if it is a two hour flight (to New York City) or a 13 hour flight (to Tokyo). It doesn't matter if it is the same time zone (Boston) or a three hour time change (Los Angelos). So I will deduce that is is either the change in cabin pressure or possibly the radiation mentioned in a post-definitely going to google that. Flying is not stressful for me, in fact I enjoy it. Mine typically arrives within 12-36 hours after flying whether it is time for one or not! Hmmm..
I'm quite relieved to come across this message board as I started quite a heavy period two days after arriving back in Cape Town from a trip to São Paulo, having just completed a period a week earlier. I'm feeling quite crampy too. I'm anxious about it, but seeing as this does seem to be quite a common phenomenon, I think I'll sit it out rather than going to see my GP today.
This happens to me every time..... I take the progesterone only pill to stop my periods due to them being painful and cause me to be very sick however every time I go on a plane I get a period either the same day or the next day.... it's very strange and I have wondered if it has anything to do with air pressure in the cabin?
I was so scared thinking that something was wrong with me, I travel a few times a year and I am 53 years old and in my menopause years, but as soon as I fly anywhere I am sure to get my menstrual within a day or two.
This is happening to me. I started my period early last two flights. Ten days early this time.
I'm going through the same here...period started 4 days after my return flight when I had it 2wks before I flew! I c nobody has found n answer yet
as far as I know is due to your body feeling like it is not a good time to have a baby so just to be sure it makes you have your period again
This is happening to me now. Had a 10 hour international flight then a couple connecting flights. It is midcycle & my cycle is like clockwork, so totally unprepared for this. Some of the first posts about spotting / bleeding between periods talked about signs of cervical cancer which was scary. Thank you for all who have shared and validated that this is real phenomenon. I would like answers to this as well. Glad to know I'm not alone.
I have the exact same problem, every time I fly to go on holiday my period comes. Even when I'm not due, I will start my period, this is really frustrating because I can't really enjoy my holiday and sometimes I'm not prepared. Right now I flew to Portugal for the weekend and guess what my period has come, I can't even enjoy a short weekend away. Does anyone have an answer??
Me too, I'm 36 I had it few times when I fly east, and always had google to find an explanation but nothing.
My doctor says it's stress but I got other stressful times that doesn't effect my period. Must be a reason.
My problem seems slightly different: I always get my period the day BEFORE I step on a plane, so I am sitting on the plane on the second (i.e. heaviest) day. It's happened more than a few times, so I am starting to wonder.
I know this is a year late - but I was googling this question and going this forum - the exact same thing happens to me. If I am due to start on the first of the month, if I fly within a week to even up to two weeks within that date, I begin to feel cramps on my flights, by the second plane boarding or upon landing - my period is there. I always thought it has something to do with altitude. I coud be totally wrong, but seeing how this never fails to happen as long as I have bee flying, I can't think of anything else? I'm god to see im not the only one! It's literally a given that when I fly, my period starts.
PS - maye it has been a year - I saw some recent posts. But I forgot to say, I just flew for a total of 3.5 hours, got to my parents house for Christmas Eve last night, started cramping on the first flight, and got my period within 30 minutes of landing. There has to be a connection?
