I have experienced painful pimple like blisters and bumps at the back of my head and behind my ears for most of my life. When I was in grade school they thought I had lice and sent me home, but the doctor thought I had psoriasis. However none of the psoriasis treatments helped and eventually the rash, went away.

I have come to the conclusion that I am allergic to some ingredient in shampoo and/or conditioners. It seems to be the creamy high moisturizer types that cause my scalp to break out. It has been difficult to find shampoos that won't cause me to break out especially since they seem to change ingredients and formulas every so many years.

I try to avoid conditioners but it is hard in the winter because my hair gets so frizzy. So use conditioner as little as possible and it helps if you can wash your hair less often and allow your natural oils to do the conditioning. A friend suggested that I not wash my hair every day. I thought that was gross, but I tried just washing with water every other day and it really is okay.

I have found that the "cheaper" simpler shampoos cause me the least trouble for example the plain Suave shampoos - no conditioners or the creamy white types though. Clear or clear colored shampoos seem to work best. There must be some kind of hypo-allergenic shampoo that one could use, but I haven't found one especially since shampoos are usually loaded with special conditioners and scents to make people like them.

I have read that a lot of the preservatives, thickeners, and sudsing chemicals used in shampoos are very toxic and cause all kinds of health problems including tumors, cancers, and hormone disruption. So it's not surprising that your skin might be irritated by all these chemicals.

To be honest, if I had an issue similar to this, I would be sure to go to the doctor about this but go to a dermatologist. I think that many people are not aware how important it is to go to a specialist to make sure you get proper treatment. Does that help? I would do that to get help with the issue. Is this helpful at all?

What I have tried that works is T-GEL and use DIAL soap. I take a shower once a day, first applying Tgel, rinsing, then using dial soap on my head. This made it stop real bad. I have had bumps for the last 8 years and I swear by it. I will also try the other suggestions and let you know how it goe

This problem won't go away....Medicine will only take care for a time, but they will come back.

The best thing to do is exercise, eat well, have good sleep and don't stress 2 much. These natural ways are the best way to get rid of the bumps, pimples and etc.....I always had them, and only get them back when I am tired, stress or eat junk food, and I also believe alcohol may affect a little....

Wow I googled this and thought I was the only one with this problem. It's so annoying. I don't use Gel anymore. I haven't in ages.. and I keep my hair short now and that's when it started happening.

But I guess I can try that bump stopper stuff. Got nothin' to lose.

Hm, that doesn't look like pimples if you ask me. Are you able to see a dermatologist?I think that should definitely be looked at.

I have the same issue...but found that seeing my dermatologist was a great idea....they prescribed clindamycin topical solution and i use it twice daily or as needed....went away. Now the big mystery of why??? I forget the name of the condition...said it was mostly present in females goin thru puberty or early adulthood. Said that has been known to react in men also. The clindamycin works well...but i do get reaccurances....hope this helps...

I am 24. I also had been plagued by zits on the back of my head, that would spread and become infected constantly. I was completely stumped about their origin. My doctor gave me an antibiotic, doxycycline, which DID in fact get rid of them. Until that is, I no longer was on the drug, when they immediately reemerged, usually worse than before.

At some point I wanted to change my diet, and I started enjoying a high fiber diet. Then I had pains in my gut. It turned out to be diverticulitis. I think I had tried to change my diet too quickly from a low fiber to a high fiber diet (which is a big mistake, always build up slowly or your intestines will be in pain). My gastroenterologist gave me cipro and flagyl, which also caused my zit problem to dissappear. After the bout of diverticuliltis, and after I went off those antibiotics, the zits reemerged. This happened two more times, over the course of about 9 months, and I had developed a colovesicular fistula (connection between the bowel and the bladder) which was due to the inflammation from the diverticulitis. So finally I had surgery to remove a portion of colon where the diverticulitis was apparent, and had the fistula repaired.

I'm convinced that the zits on the back of the head are a product of diverticula in your large intestine. Why they appear on the back of the head, or why they're caused by the diverticula, I can only speculate that because of the pockets in the large intestine, that certain forms of bacteria which would not be allowed to propagate (because they need certain conditions which without pockets in the large intestine, would not be possible normally) and in fact cause the pimples on the back of the head. The reason I am convinced of this is because after the portion of my colon with the diverticulitis was removed, the pimples did not come back.

So my suggestion? Eat better. Several years of bad eating habits had done this to me, too many processed foods, fast food, etc (like hot pockets, frozen ready to eat foods, etc) and I paid the price for it.

So let's compare here: which of these apply to you? Maybe you'll know what you're up against here.

I had:
Zits on the back of my head
Poor diet, almost no fiber, really bad food choices
Overweight
Sedentary Lifestyle
Thin Stool
Constipation

I'm no medical doctor and by no means do I state this as fact, but I am certainly convinced the two problems, zits on the back of the head and diverticula are connected.

hi there, i used to have the same problem for years, after i discovered the "OXY" body or facial wash (I used facial wash) all my pimples were all gone after a week of use (2x a day, leave it to your hair for atleast 10 mins. then rinse your hair). Now I'm free of head pimples and thanks to Oxy... Works for me 100% no more pimples "0". I did a lot of searching on the internet and people says: pour soda to your head, use vinegar, change pillow case ev'ryday etc. (I did all of those but nothing work). Now i'm searching the net for head acne/pimples just to help people had d same problem i used to have, just give it a try and u'll see the result after a week.

Well i'm 30 and this has been a problem for me for the past 12 years, I have tried just about everything. The dr's have prescribed me with about 100 different antibiotics, creams, pills it's rediculous. Basiclly what I gather is that is an infection caused by the hair in growing through the pimple and the bacteria in your hair causes your spot/pimple to get infeceted. I did notice that I was getting them more and more as I let my hair grow out, but although that might be an underlining issue to is all it isn't the main reason why people get them. At my last visit the latest dr told me that it is hereditary and have asked my familiy members if they know of anyone that has had this problem.... I am still waiting on their response. I did have a few years when I had no problems, during that time I was at my heatlhiest, I was exercising and eating correctly. Just resently I started to get these bumps again and in an unhealthy state again in my life. I have started to eat healthy again and excersize regularly, and just because you are thin doesn't mean that you are in a healthy state. I weight 230 pounds and am about 5'8, I am overweight and believe that by reducing the amount of fat in your body may be the only way to keep these things from coming back. I would suggest that you change your diet around, eat healthy! I am going to try this again and see if I have finally broken the puzzle. I will keep you all informed and hopefully this might help a few out..
