So has anyone done a vasectomy with this condition? I know one poster said it was awful and he needed a reversal. I’m desperate for unprotected sex with my wife and am thinking about getting it done. If it was a problem for anyone why does this issue cause more problems? I’m up 3-5 times a night and standing makes erection go away always.

I'm one of those guys whose vasectomy causes pain with erections so combined with this problem my life is now hellish. That's just me though. You may be, and statistically likely will be, fine. Just look at the Amercan Urological Association guidelines on vasectomy so you at least are aware of the incidence of chronic pain going in.

For those who sit while working, has anyone tried using a standing desk? One potential root cause may be nerve / muscle damage from sitting all day.

Instead of standing up and completely waking up try tucking your erection under your leg. You might find it will go away in about a minute.

Just put water on it. Use your imagination for how you're going to do that without waking up entirely. Putting it under your leg is literally the worst thing to do.

Yes, I bought an adjustable desk where I can sit and stand working. While research on this condition shows that there seems to be a connection with the pelvis muscles it didn't bring relief for me.

Hi I’d be interested to hear if you managed to cure or sort this problem in any way. Thanks

Hey guys. It’s been a while since I’ve posted because it seems as though I’ve gotten over this condition. And although I’ve been feeling better for almost a year, I’ve also been keeping my eye on the feed. I want to share with you guys what I’ve been doing to aleviate the SRPE. First I saw the chiropractor with the decomp machine. Started feeling better but not completely. Then I began looking into the pelvic muscles. I realized that I do hold tension in the kegel muscle area so I consciously have to remember to release that tension throughout the day (slight push instead of constant pull if you understand what I mean). Next I adjusted my abdominal exercises to pelvic exercises instead. Working out your abs can make your pelvic muscles tense up and pelvic exercises are very similar to abdominal exercises, just takes the tension off the area. I also have loss of curvature in my low back so one a day for about 15 minutes I lay on a rolled up t shirt and stretch afterwards. And finally I’ve cut out bike riding (when I do ride, I avoid sitting). I’ve been symptom free for almost 9 solid months now. There doesn’t seem to be just one cure all for this. Look up low back and pelvic stretches and exercises, be diligent and stick with it. It’s going to take time and effort but if it works for you, it’s well worth it. Trust me. I wish all of you well and I hope you all find relief.

Wow - best post I've read so far on the condition. MJ - how long did you have this issue prior to starting the road to recovery? Any particular stretches you recommend? I'm looking to finally get rid of this issue. Going on 5 years for me now.

Hi MJ. Thanks for your post. I am unclear as to whether we should be doing exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor or simply stretches to relieve tension in the pelvic floor. Any further guidance would be appreciated. Perhaps you could post a link to some exercises or stretches on the FB page that was created? Thanks in advance.

My symptoms began in August 2016 and it was hell trying to make it through the day due to the lack of sleep, so I sympathize with all of you. I’m not on any social media so I won’t be joining the FB group. All I did was google “pelvic floor exercises” and “pelvic stretches”, watched a bunch of videos and came up with a regiment that worked for me. I learned that the pelvic area is an area intertwined with muscles and ligaments that often get overlooked when stretching and exercising. You also have to take good care of your low back. Lots of nerves run through the entire area down there. Laying on the rolled up t shirt at my lower back while putting the bottoms of my feet together for about 15 minutes a day helps. Lay down hip thrusts and leg lifts work out the abs without straining pelvic muscles. Periformis stretches seem to help too. If I think of anything else, I will post it here. The secret here is don’t give up. It takes time to loosen the area. Be diligent and stay away from the drugs if you can. They often cause more problems than they solve.

I took propecia and have suffered from this issue for years. Diet seems to play a factor but I think it's mainly neurological. I avoid alcohol, dark chocolate and rich ice-cream along with acidic things like tomatoes in the evening. I find eating rice every night seems to be most helpful. I think it soothes the bladder and that seems to in turn make the erections less frequent. As we know there is no cure but that has definitely helped most often as well as bring knee up to my chest. I can't lie on my side as this trigger the condition. If anyone has any dietary suggestions I'd love to hear them - just something to take the edge off.
