Needing someone to talk too, I know this is old maybe you will still get my message...
Hi I am 30 weeks pregnant and on 16mg daily. I am so scared. I am scared for my baby and for my family finding out, my mother just never understood and thinks I'm off the medication. My husband and myself are both on it and so luckily I have his support. My question is should I tell my mother and just get it over with??
Just wanted to pop on here with another positive experience being pregnant on Subutex. I was on Suboxone since Oct 2009. I started off on 24mg a day (3 8mg a day). We started weaning the beginning of 2012 and in March I found out I was pregnant (I was on it for quite awhile because of fear of using again, I didn't feel ready until the end of 2011). My doctor immediately switched me to Subutex and told me not to try and wean or get off. That withdrawal will likely cause a miscarriage and it's by far the best option to stay at the dose I was at (at the time I was at 8mg a day). My first OB was very adamant about getting off the medication immediately, and a little judgmental. My pain management doctor tried to explain to her but she wasn't having it. Because of that, and some other reasons, I switched OBs around 27 weeks pregnant. My new OB was fantastic, and was very encouraging throughout the whole process. They both assured me that the chance of my baby having any withdrawal symptoms was very slim because I was taking 8mg a day (they say more than that you risk it). Since you have to take it sublingually, the chance of the baby getting the medication is slim to none, and even then it wouldn't go directly to their blood stream. I had some complications during my pregnancy due to an incompetent cervix, but nothing subutex related.
When it was time to have him, they gave me an epidural which had no effect on my medication (which I took just before we left for the hospital). The epidural didn't work all the way but that was likely because of my severe scoliosis. He got stuck in the birth canal so they had to do an emergency csection. At that time I could feel them do the practice cut, so they had to use fentanyl and general anesthesia. Neither messed with my medication.
My son was born healthy at a whopping 8lbs 11oz 21 1/4" at 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant. He got a 10 on the apgar and was great. He was very sleepy for a few days however, but that was because of the general anesthesia and fentayl they gave me during the csection. They did allow me to breastfeed, and we had many lactation consultants come in to help me. All were very encouraging. We just had trouble with latching because he was so tired and he had an upper lip tie (which we didn't know until after we had to stop nursing/lack of supply). I'm not sure if my medication effected my supply or what. I started off with a major supply but it dwindled quickly. I didn't have a good diet though, rarely ate. Anyways. My OB did not prescribe anything but ibuprofen for my recovery because he knew of my past. However we called my sub doctor and he was very upset they did not prescribe me anything (he's also an anesthesiologist and does epidurals himself) so he gave me vicodin and a few extra sub to help with the pain. Both my OB & sub Dr encouraged me to breastfeed. Nobody called child services. Pretty much everyone was very sweet and helpful (had one bitchy nurse but can't complain lol)
So I hope that helps some women who find themselves pregnant feel a little better. It is scary, but from what my doctor told me Subutex is by far the best medication for pregnant women who are dealing with a physical dependence. The chance of your baby going through withdrawals is slim to none if you are on a fairly low dose (under 8-10mg). Hope you all have happy and healthy pregnancies

Thank you for sharing your story!
I'd your baby girl have any withdrawl sign after birth?
I'm so scared of my baby having bad withdrawal effects after birth, my Dr told me they could last up to 21 days after delivery.

I have been on subutex for over 2 years and thought I could just stop when I found out I was pregnant ... I then read all the bad things with withdraw and pregnancy but this after I moved 600 miles away from my sub doctor.... my doctor told me to never just stop this medication and to go to the ER for an emergency prescription.... I did and they refused it saying they didn't feel comfortable writing it.... I'm so scared of this withdraw and my baby. They gave me a medication for nausea only and sent me home.
So happy to read this positive story. My partner and I want to have a baby soon but I have been on the suboxone for 10 years. I have gradually been weeding myself down but am freaking out that I won't be able to get fully off of it b4 I fall pregnant. Reading this post eased my mind a lot. I am now down to 1.6mg daily which I know is low but everytime I try to just off no matter how low I get the pain is still the same. For instance I jumped off 16 ml and it was absolute hell then I gradually weaned fowlwell so a mere 0.4 of a mg and the pain was just as bad. What I want to know is did your baby have any withdrawal symptoms at all when born ?
My apologies I am now on subutex not suboxone
How did it go with your c section? I am worried about the pain if I have to have a c section and how to treat it bc I am told to stay on my subutex.
I've just found out this morning that I'm pregnant but I'm due to start my titration tomorrow from street bought subutex to a propa script of subutex..has anyone else done a titration while pregnant xxx
I am currently on 6mg subutex and having my son via c-section in two days .. I am

Can I ask if you breastfed once you gave birth (and if so, did you remain on the same dosage, taper off, etc.?) Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl =)
Hello ladies
Wow! I'm so angry right now, I just literally wrote my whole life story and all that posted was "hey ladies"
Had my baby boy 3 weeks ago while taking 8mg subutex by c section and this same fear..... my son had no issues and no withdrawal that they could see and we left the hospital in 2 days...... now the staff at the hospital was completely in knowledgeable about subutex and after having my c section surgery refused to give menpain medication and it was awful.... I was finally provided a small dose but suffered and was released in 2 days with no pain medication for my surgery
