I had my colon removed in Feb due to cancer. I go to the bathroom 10 minutes after I eat anything lol. So far, no problems and I do not need meds or a colostomy bag.

Hello mike !

My name is Sarah Lindsey and I am two weeks post opp I have a sub total colectomy (whole colon removed and as well my small intestine connected to my anus). I am doing pretty good for BMs now but I am super swollen in the abdominal area and have a hernia now from throwing up in the hospital.
My question to everyone really is will my tummy go down ? It's very tender and sore around my "pouch" I now call it and it almost looks like all my air is in the middle forcing my belly down. A lot of pressure and just uncomfortable . I walk daily but with a struggle and j miss being active .

As well did I mention I am 23 years old?
I'm just concerned on the stomach pain right in the middle if I walk and my belly jiggles its sharp and uncomfortable even to a touch.

Thanks guys and best of wishes to all !

I just had a subtotal colectomy (sm bowel connected to rectum due to chronic constipation) on 10/24/16. I was having a lot of bowel movements and was feeling decent, considering the type of surgery. However, the day after discharge, I was rushed back in and was told that I had a small bowel obstruction caused from part of the small intestine not cooperating. I ended up with a NG tube for 3 days. My total stay being 11 days inpatient. I have been discharged again now for 4 days and I feel as though I am starting to take a step backwards again. I am having 1-2 bm a day and it hurts so bad to go. I have constant cramps in my abdomen and when the gas comes out, it hurts terribly. When will things feel normal? I would take going to the bathroom 10 times per day with no pain then 1-2 in pain.

Everything will definitely be ok. I had thhe same operation. It took awhile for it to start working, then for the bowel action to slow down. but they did. Take the stuff they say to take (for now). You can stop worrying, really!

Have you tried eating high fiber foods? A nutiritionist (covered by your health insurance) will be able to help you with a list of high fiber foods and the amounts to eat daily.

I am a 26 year old female who had a laproscropic total colectomy done three weeks ago. I go to the bathroom numerous times now to he point I have to take anti diarrhea medicine. My issue is, I've been in constant pain. I can't eat, barely drink, doing anything (even moving positions) causes so much pain. I've lost 11 pounds since my surgery. I had lost more, but gained liked 5 back. My stomach feels so bloated and it's so painful. I would rather give birth! I look like I'm pregnant because of how bloated I am. It hurts and feels "hard" is the only way I can explain it. It hurts to do anything.

Anyone have this and what was the outcome?!

I am facing the likelihood of having my colon removed, and looking for good resources for information about colostomy. What can you tell me?
