The poster you're ripping talked about MYSTIC TAN. That is NOT a tanning BED.
I am currently four and a half months pregnant. I called my doctor to see if it was okay for me to use a self tanner or spray tan at a salon. He recommended that I contact a pharmacist. I than contacted my local pharmacy and spoke to a liscensed pharmasist and asked him if there was any harmful chemicals in self tanners or spray tans at a salon. After he did some research he stated, that it is safe to spray tan or use self tanners while pregnant and that the tanning solution contains no harmful chemicals, but he does not recomend using self tanners or spray until after your first trimester. Before going to the salon to spray tan, I also called my local salon to see if they had any restrictions in which they didn't. So spray tan or self tan all you want! I am and feel so much better about my body! Especially with summer coming up!

I read as well that tanning is just as safe as being in the natural sun.
Now I can't speak for the Mystic Tan as I don't know if there is any chemical in that which can be harmful but I know they say the beds are safe.
are you seriously using the tanning bed while you are pregnant? Please don't tell any other women that it is alright to do that. Don't you know it can cook your insides. What ever tanning salon you use could be shut down and needs to be. They are not supposed to let pregnant women tan. Please don't keep doing this. Think about your innocent baby. As far as spray tanning, ask your doctor not just anyone.
First off, anyone who thinks tanning cooks your insides is obviously not educated what so ever. The only thing tanning affects is your skin. It does not penetrate any deeper. As far as tanning while preganant, my OB told me that its not that its harmful to the baby, but during pregnancy your skin is extremely sensitive, and also, tanning while pregnant affects the vitamins in your body and can even create more serious skin damage than if you were not pregnant. There are also precautions you could take such as using more open beds with more vent systems and making sure you are drinking water and staying hydrated. Going less often is also a better way to lower your expossure. Mystic Tanning is much safer than tanning in a bed and MANY pregnant women mystic tan through out their pregnancy and have healthy babies. Infact many pregnant women even tan using a tanning bed throughout their pregnancy and have healthy babies. I would suggest if your skin is very sensitive and you have alergies to not do either. The safest solution to any question about wheather something is safe or not during pregnancy is to just not do it. Listen to your doctor and ask if you have any questions. Hope this helps! :D
I suspect that the salon owners do not really think or know it is harmful, as in this day and age, they would have so many law suits over it, that they wouldn't be in business.
By the way, I spray tanned several times during my last pregnancy and my 2-year-old is healthy and super smart. I love going, but I think moderation is always good. I definitely won't be going as much as when I wasn't pregnant, but will definitely now and then. Obvioulsy, it is a personal choice. :-)
I realize these quotes are older, but I am recently pregnant on baby #2. There are so many things to worry about when you are pregnant and no matter how much you research or how many people or docs you ask..... you will get 50/50 split on answers. You have some people who are more conservative and some who ride the edge. We do not live in generation or enviroment that is 100% or even 70% chemical free. This is from our food, air we breathe, or even medications we have to take. After years of researching, I have came to the conclusion that you use the same thinking pregnant as you do when your not.....MODERATION!!!! Of course this doesn't apply to doing illegal drugs and such, but be smart and realistic when you read. As far as SPRAY TANNING, it does not go through your skin and penetrate your bloodstream. It is a stain. The questionable harm is if you inhale the fumes or if the odor makes you sick. your epidermis is thick and the ingredients in self tan, is not meant to penetrate the skin!!! Otherwise it would not wash off. Also if you get that technical then stay away from lotions, creams, hell even make-up. Mine is one of many opinions, but my opinion is not based on just what I have heard from one person to another. My experience with doctors(which is daily), depending on whether you ask a male of female, the answer is different. Men, whom have never been pregnant, love telling patients how to feel, how to live, and what to expect. This of course is not based on their own personal experience, just what they interpret or hear from patients. This does not apply to all, my experience only. Good luck and remember over thinking your pregnancy can cause stress on you and your body AND your unborn baby. This could be much more harmful than a spray tan.
The controversy over tanning beds, that jury is still out. I would rather get natural sun, but again that is just a preference:-)
