I am experiencing the same symptoms right now. I actually used proactive about 7 years ago with no problems. The results were not 100%, but I was happy. Last week, I decided to use it again... The first 2 days were very promising and then, I woke up with an itchy face and swollen eyes. I have a million red sores and cysts now. My face looks like I had a bad sunburn... I am soooo desappointed and soooooooo upset. I am taking Benadryl and treating my face with organic/natural yogourt. That really help and it's such a relief. I am going to see my doctor soon and hopefully this terrible experience will be over.

I used proactive for a month and it really worked...it cleared my skin and left it really soft. but two days ago out of no where i woke up with red, itchy, rough skin. It still has not gone away and i hope it does:(
I have been taking benadryl and it helped take away the redness. I am very disapointed, i will never use it again!
I dont understand how they can still sell this after this has happened to many people!!
So ,who ever wants to try proactive , be careful! i dont want this to happen to anyone else!
My skin is better off without it!!

Proactiv is the only thing that worked for me after I got put on birth control and my hormones went INSANE. I'm 24 and for the first time in my life have acne. It's humiliating. Anyways. I've been using Proactiv for about 6 months after suffering with acne for almost a year and a half. I have super sensitive skin and the first 2 weeks of using Proactiv I had the really itchy skin and bumps and my eyes were SOOOO swollen. I started drinking a ton more water, I took 2 benadryl at night before I went to bed, and I only used the repairing lotion once a day. After 2 days of doing this, my face got completely better. Just be patient. It also helps to use cold water instead of warm water when washing your face. Make sure you rinse your face off completely because part of my problem was leaving residue from the soap on my face. Don't apply anything but the green tea moisturizer close to your eyelids and use the green tea moisturizer religiously. Proactiv even helped my hyperpigmentation from acne scarring too. Just be consistent and patient with it. If things are still bad and painful after 8 weeks, get your money back! I waited and my skin looks better than ever!

Well, I tried using Proative and had bad reactions to it. Redness, itching, peeling and dryness, which is unusual because I have oily skin. I recently started going to a dermatologist and she said that I'm probably allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide (which is an ingredient in Proactive and plenty of other acne treatments). I have to stick with treatments that have just have Salicylic Acid in them. Maybe try some other treatments and check the ingredients or go to a dermatologist and explain your reaction. Hope this helps!
P.S. I do have somewhat sensitive skin.

The same thing happened to me... My face didn't seem to itch too much but my eyes swelled up badly. I didn't make the connection right away so i went to see my eye doctor in utter panic that something was wrong with my eyes. She flipped my eye lids over to see the undersides of them and said she saw a slew of tiny bumps that were a histamine response to something i was allergic to. Still didn't realize it was my proactiv for a while but I was given allergy eye drops and that made the swelling go down, then every time my eyes started itching, I just checked my eye lids to see if any new bumps formed and sure enough there were TONS! Kept eliminating all the products I used one at a time until by process of elimination I figured out it was proactiv. I hope this helps explain the eye puffyness and why anti-histamines help with the itching!

I received my 3 piece pack on Tuesday.. was my face that afternoon, I work nights so through the night my face was itchy as I was sweating and burning, so I rinsed my face with cool water.. i was all blotchy and red but I mean I was working. I went home after work and showered my right eye looked bruised, but I figured I was just tired went to sleep. Woke up and my eye was swollen shut my face is so swollen I actually have red skin and then the white lack of circulation marks. So now I'm freaking out I have to work and I look like Adam Sandler after he ate seafood in that movie! I take the Proactive with me to my Doctor and he says well this stuff is FULL of Sulfur I said really that's not on the bottles any where. He said no but it's a main ingredient... I am so allergic to Sulfur, I have to have that noted everytime I see a doctor and I wear a medical alert bracelet to alert people to this. I think there is a serious flaw to their packaging this could and has caused many people issues!

Hi- I had a similar experience. I used proactiv with very good results for about 3-4 years. I started getting little red marks that looked like acne scars all over my jaw line. So I stopped using it. Later- I found out that my acne was food allergy related. First I eliminated gluten. My skin cleared up right away. The following year I was having some stress and living in a very polluted city. I started to break out very badly. I tried the proactiv again just occasionally but again had an allergy to it- little red marks and also the blisters but not as many as some of the people on here have experienced. I recently found out that not only am I allergic to gluten but also dairy. These are two of the most common allergies and dairy is the most common leading to acne. Its not easy to give up- but if you are an acne sufferer like me, nothing is worth having a break out. I also checked out safecosmetics.org. Many of the products we use- especially for acne- have things in them that cause skin sensitivities and allergies. Proactiv is one of these. I've completely stopped using proactiv. I am using a pure handmade goats milk soap that is helping my skin to heal. I also use benzegel when I break out. It is the same medical ingredient that is in proactiv but it does not have any other ingredients like parfum and oil- plus it is SO much cheaper and you can buy it at the drug store. This would not be good to use though if you are allergic to benzyol peroxide- the main ingredient. I hope this helps. For me this has been trial and error. I am now staying away from chemical products as I now know they can lead to more skin problems and allergies. I am trying to go natural. safecosmetics.org is a place where you can check what is in your products.

Hello All,

I'm a 27 year old female, used proactiv for about 5 months with no reaction, however i did notice a little burning and some itching, but it wasn't all the time. My skin was not that bad, so I only used the products about 1-2 a week. On Friday, I used the cleanser and the lotion, and went to work like normal. By the end of the day, my face was very red and felt hot. So, that night, by 8pm my face was totally swollen and both eyes were also swollen. I had had a reaction 2 times before, in the previous two weeks, with one eye being swollen 4-5 days apart, but it went away in 1 day. At the time, I thought it was a food allergy.

I did some research here on the internet, and found many, many posts of people having reactions to this product. I called proactiv and complained, so they are refunding my money and they did say it sounded like an allergic reaction. The "Allergy Specialist" was a very rude guy who didn't seem to care about me at all, and did not have any advice for me, which is what I was hoping for.

So, after 2 days of swelling, my whole face is now peeling and it looks like I have a chemical burn. I honestly think there should be a class action suit against them, because just refunding my $66 is not going to fix what this product has done to my face.

I had the same reaction as what everyone else here was saying. My entire face including lips/eyelids/under my eyes became puffy, crusty and red. Pretty scary-looking. I just didnt put anything on my face for a few days, but was sure to remove all that disgusting Proactive junk. It went away after 3 days I think.

It annoyed me so much because on the commercial they emphasized how it was safe for sensitive skin. Yeah, not really@ It was totally misleading.

Proactive actually does make a Gentle Formula, it costs twice as much and does the same as using a bar of soap.. nothing... and smells like lavendar

I have been using proactive for over three months. I stopped using it for about two weeks when my supply ran out. This weekend I got more, and I used it twice. The first day there was no problems but this morning I have the red, itchty face and swollen eyes everyone was tlaking about. My face also feels like it burns. I can't take Benadryl because I'm allergic to it. This really sucks. I drove three hours to get my proactive to have this happen.
