Drink alot of milk and water.

if your using proactiv, dont use anything else because it makes a chemical reaction and it ends up making your face turn red.

if your face is red there are 2 ways to reduce the redness that i know of.

Get ice and put it on the top inside of your mouth. keep repeating this. do about 10 ice cubes.

another way to reduce redness it to get a white towel and soak it up in milk.

Yea i know it sounds crazy but just do it.

Put the towel on your face and keep it there for about 30 minutes.

the coldness of the milk and the proteins will start bringing down the redness and i guess it works for bumps too, im not sure tho.

once you take off the towel off your face. let your face dry. dont wash your face. let the milk do its magic.

You'll start feeling your skin feeling good.

after about 1 or 2 hours wash it off with cold water and your face will be smooth and less red (:

so, i don't have bad acne but i do have it and i tried to use everything to try to get rid of it. i always wanted to use proactiv because i thought i would work . so i bough the 30day trial . i was so excited to use it . so i did that friday night. i did the 2 times a day thing and i used the refining mask for little spots of acne i had . i used it until sunday . on sat. i start noticing my face getting red under my eyes and a burning feeling. i thought that was normal so i didn't do anything . i did put some makeup on . but on sunday i woke up with a burning feeling and i look at my face and i have like a huggggee rash on my face. so after reading all of these post i guess i'm allergic to it .. but i have been using lotions like nivea and i've started using nuxema and i bought a new lotion from aveeno for skin relief.  idk if that's a good idea but i need to do something about my face. it looks so dry and so disgusting . i can't stand it. i'm so scared =( i dont want my face to stay like this .

I am an adult with slight acne, enough (as a woman) to want to try and get rid of it, at least so that it would no longer scar my face. I bought a kiosk 30 day amount of proactiv and for the first few days it was great. then my whole face and neck broke out into what looked like a rash. Lots and lots of little mini bumps where I had never had acne before! It worstened and it remained even after I stopped using the product. I have currently been of the product for about 3 weeks and am still trying to get rid of the aftermath. I have not tried taking Benadryl but will try and see if it helps.

Used proactive specialty drops made of salicylic acid and had immediate reaction twice of nose swelling shut and intense spitting from mouth and sneezing. Throat did not swell shut. Heard this a related to asparin allergy and get kidney pain if i take 6 pills over a 8 hour period. Intense kidney pain waking me up at nite. Stopped using proactive and ok now. no attacks. Attack lasted about 4 hours of misery and drainage and sneezing. Almost went to hospital

I bought a Proactive kit. My teen used just the cleanser and very briefly and her face swelled up like a balloon with eyes completely shut within 24 hours. On the other hand, I have no problem with the product. If you know you have sensitive skin, do a test patch first like they recommend.

Actually I think the green tea moisturizer is what made my eyelids puffy. Used Proactive once before with no major issues other than a little redness at first. My skin was dry so I used the free sample of green tea moisturizer, especially around my eyes last night. Woke up this morning to very puffy eyes. Took 2 Benadryl, using cold compress, and Visine A (both in my eyes and patted topically around the eye) is starting to make a difference. I'm sure it was the Green Tea Moisturizer.

Proactiv worked great for me, until I decided to stop using it. (Dumb idea) It had been about 4 weeks, and then my skin started breaking out. I used my Proactiv and in the morning my face was red, swollen and VERY itchy! I have no clue why it makes my skin so irritated, when it was working perfectly before! |-O

I got Proactiv AWHILE ago, and when I first got it I was very satisfied, within a few days my skin was perfect! But then summer rolled around and I might have skipped a few cleansings, so in the shower I used some Proactiv and since my acne was really bad, being the stupid little person I am I thought it would be a good idea to ALSO use my Neutrogena scrub... WORST IDEA EVER. The next day I woke up, looked in the mirror, and literally screamed. My eyes were SOOO puffy and I could tell cause it was hard to see, my face was VEERY itchy and burning and red. MOST TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. My face felt like it was on fire. I refused going to school because I was SO horrified. Its my own damn fault because it says it right on the bottle to not use with other topical products... So moral of the story DONT USE PROACTIV AND THEN ANOTHER CLEANSER. But anyway, ever since then I could never use the Proactiv cleanser without my face getting red and itchy, but it still gets rid of my acne! I havnt been really using it lately, maybe every once in awhile when I REALLY need it and Im willing to endure a little itchiness. So yeah, I still use it, even when I get the bad side effects because what do you expect?! Something that completely gets rid of my acne has to leave so side effects. :P

I am SO glad I came across this thread.

I've use Proactiv on and off for many many years with no problems other than a little dryness and itching for the first few days.

I don't make a lot of money so sometimes I'll go months without using it and buy a kit when I can afford it.

Today I was SO excited.  My mom had bought me the 60-day kit as a gift.  I used all three steps as soon as I got home.  Felt the usually dryness and slight tiching that I get when I don't use Benzoyl Peroxide for a while, but nothing irritating.

Fast forward several hours to tonight at work;  Out of ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE, my eyes started getting tight like something had just sucked all the moisture out of that area.  Within 15 minutes they started to swell up, looking as if I had been crying the night before, and within an hour I started panicking about the sudden and rapid onset.

I left work early and the swelling continued to get worse.  I look like I went ten rounds with Rocky and the area on either side of my mouth is numb and raised.

I was so worried it could be something serious I even got dressed for the emergency room (at 5am), but after reading this thread I am POSITIVE it was a reaction to the Proactiv.  I had doubted it because it took several hours for the swelling to start, but there are too many stories on here almost identical to mine.

Thanks for saving me a trip to the emergency room and a possible steroid prescription!  Proactiv.  The Devil's Cleanser.

this has been awful for me, i used proactiv twice, once in the morning and then once that night. i've never used the product before but was excited to start using it as soon as it came. also i didnt have servere acne at all, just little flesh colored bumps that i wanted to get rid of. the next morning after i used proactiv my eyes were swollen and my face was red and ichy, i thought that after a few days this would go away, but after 4 days my face was still swollen and ichy. soi went to the dermatoligist and he gave me a cortisone shot, i can already feel the swelling going down . he told me that by tomorrow night everything should be back to normal.....i really hope so. this has been a nightmare.

Weird!!! The same things happened to me!! I Used practice for about a week and every time I used it I felt a little burning but I thought that was normal. Then I skipped using it for 2 treatments. I got these weird little bumps on my face that stung my face was also really dry. I tried to use it again but it stung so bad and I had to wash it off. I don't want my face to swell up!!!(I just did this tonight)

Exact thing happened to me. I have it right now. My doctor said that the benzoyl peroxide is too strong for my skin.
