Hi... Sorry that we all are suffering...... I have the same things happening after my rotar cuff surgery. 3 months post op and pain in the arm, from my neck, shoulder , elbow and down my arm..... what can I say???/ Help is the medicine I take on a daily basis. Flexril and a vicoden if I really need one. What else can I do, especially after going to therapist. I had a major tear and scrapping and burscectomy and yes something else. Still have swelling in my shoulder and upper arm swollen. This is all true. Ice has become an everyday ritual. I have made progress but ... very slowly. Can any one tell me if they are still swollen??? Thanks to all and good luck.

Yes..I am 6 months post surgery and still have swelling and pain. My range of motion is pretty good and my strength is returning. The swelling is in my shoulder and right side of my neck. Some of my pain is a burning pain(down my arm) which may indicate a nerve problem. I plan to check with the Dr next appoint. I have also been researching RSD...google it ..and be sure you do not have any symptoms..if you do...check with your Dr and be sure to get the correct treatment. RSD can be very serious. I am still not back at work.....and I am seeing a psychologist ...this has been tough on this (once) very active lady!! Hang in there everyone!!

I am 13 months post op rotator cuff surgery. I was doing very well at the 9 month mark post op. Sleeping through the night & had very little pain. Now at the 13 month post op I have a lot of pain & not sleeping, the pain wakes me several times a night. I don't think I am doing anymore with my arm/shoulder than I was a 9 months post op. Has anyone else had the problem? Help!!!

I had Cuff and Labrum surgery in Jan 09. I feel great lifting weights and playing soft catch, but when I try to play long toss I still feel that familiar "stabbing" pain at the apex of my arm motion. Any similar occurrences from anyone else? I did my rehab to a T and eased up from catch when it started hurting, but I am beginning to think my pitching career is over. Any ideas?

I read all your symptons now you guys have me worried. I had my right rotatorcuff done yesterday but I had no choice the pain was severe from shoulder to elbow but with the pain killers today its allready no worse than before.I must say last night the pain was terriable. trying to sleep was impossable. I think the hospital should keep us for a day not one hour after they repaired severed tendon and installed a bunch of plastic. the best way for me to get comfortable as possible was a recliner but only short periods of time and I would sit up not having my shoulder against anything (this feels good) I am 54 on sunday and want to live to 100. this is my 6th operation, my 5 previous have all been successful. I am an optimist and believe with proper therapy I"ll do good and I also agree with the guy that said you need a good therapist meaning someone that is interested in they're job and takes pride in his or her job as I do.I am a transport diesel mechanic as well as many other things.I also have a soluntion for our pain problem, will share when I completed it.This will also help many others with shoulder pain and even prevent surgery and it's not drugs!s not drugs .

I think I must be one of the lucky ones. I am not fully recovered yet. I had surgery on March 10, 2010. From day one, I have had almost no pain. I took a few pain meds (oxy codone), and they made me SICK. As soon as I got them out of my system, I felt great and was right back in the gym. PT started right away. That hurts sometimes...a LOT, but it is the right kind of pain. At this time I have about eighty to ninety percent mobility, but very little strength. I can raise my arm far over my head, and I am doing knees on the floor push ups. I hope to do light upper body lifting within a few weeks.

I had arthroscopic surgery 1 week ago on my left shoulder - (rotator cuff tear of 3cm and fractured humerous) and take a tablet - panadeine forte at night to help me sleep and I walk for 1 hour a day. My arm has to be in a sling for 4 weeks and i do just 2 assisted exercise movements 3 times a day. My muscles in left arm spasm now and again and i feel the shoulder muscles pull when i bend down and i worry the stitches or anchors have come out. I see the doctor on this week so hopefully he can confirm then that all is well. But other than that the pain is bearable and i want my life back. I lost my job because of this injury and it is very hard for someone to hire me in this condition, so i hope i get better within 12 months. I also wish everyone in this posting a goood and speedy recovery. i will keep you posted on my recovery.

Forgot to mention that for inflammation and other pains I do take herbals in addition to the chemical stuff: 1xOmega 3 tablet daily, 2 x pollen tablets (daily) from new zealand, and rub Arnaca and Comfrey herbal creams on my arm, neck and shoulder prior to exercise which is good for comfort in fractures, sprains and joint pain.
Further I wanted to share that I was in hospital for 2 nights and three days after surgery. Felt nauseous (and did vomit more than once) for 1 day and all night from the anaesthetic, nerve block, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, morphine, senna(to help bowel movements). and oxydene (pain killers) and local anaesthetic, that on day 3 I said no more. They took everything out and i went home feeling disorientated, and sad. the next day i was back to my normal self without the drugs. That is why i now keep my medication intake as simple and as natural as possible.

I am sorry that so many people are suffering so much. All I can say is that if you are in or near Michigan, see Dr. Bak. THe entire experience has not been bad at all. I am at the three month mark. I have eighty to ninety percent range of motion now, and I can do twenty push ups (probably more).

I had right shoulder cuff surgery on 03/05/10. I have had bad pain since April. Had weeks of PT. Saw my surgeon on a regular basis and complained of pain. He always told me that it was still early. Finally one day he held his face in his hands, elbows on knees and said, "I don't know what it could be, I don't understand." Keep in mind I saw a neurologist, did everything the Ortho guy suggested, which was very little. He complained that me deltoids were "the thickest he had ever seen". Long story short, after he made me feel like I was crazy because I had pain and acting like he never heard of such a thing...MRI shows partial thickness tear in same place 1st MRI showed tear. It all starts to make since...when my wife had asked if an MRI would show anything, he was quick to say NO! 12 weeks off of work, still in pain. I'm not happy.

Hi again

Apart from recovering from a torn tendon, I was told by my surgeon that I also have severe frozen shoulder! it wasnt nice news to hear.I saw pictures of my surgery and saw how red my joints were :$ pretty dissapointing as it will extend my rehab and doctors guess is 12 months give or take but if mobility doesnt improve surgery to free up my shoulder may be on the cards in 6 months time. I am now taking glucosamine tablets, supposed to be good for joints. hope it helps. At this stage, i am trying to be patient, it is hard though depending on others for stuff, to dress, to do my hair, etc. I can only wear buttoned garments so had to buy new clothes.
this will be a slow recovery so i will keep you posted.

Stilltorn - shame to hear initial surgery was undone. I guess the anchors (polymer or whatever) came out of place. I have heard cases like this before even here i met someone in hospital who had to re-do the surgery. Mine even came out during surgery apparently i have soft bones, so they put a metal anchor instead of the polymer ones. Hope your pain eases, will you have surgery again?

I can totally relate to the pain!!! I had my surgery March 30th, 2010, and as far as the pain meds........"UGH" if I could of gotten 30 minutes of relief I would of been in heaven. Dr. even switched meds 2-3 times, but by no means did they make me totally comfortable, not to mention I slept in a recliner for almost 6 weeks. I am now about 13 weeks post-op, and unfortunately headed back in for round 2 with another surgery. The best advise I can offer, is believe it or not, you will live thru the pain, but 1st and for-most, "DON'T DO ANYTHING MORE THAN THE DOCTOR OR PHYSICAL THERAPIST TELLS YOU IT'S OK TO DO"!!!! Because "IF" I would of listened instead of, "oh I am feeling better so I can do this" well long story short................I am scheduled for another surgery due to my own stupidity. I wish you luck! ~~~Sue~~~

ok some people wont like is but the only way I got over it was to increase my pain thresh hold by going to the gym and talking to the trainers there who helped me a lot. Putting my arm in uncomfortable positions for a few seconds and heat packs. I don’t take pain relief and I still get stiffness and pain in my shoulder but not as bad hope this info helps

OK, so just had my third shoulder surgery in three years. I had my left one done a second time due t not being able to properly rehab it during recovery from an emergency back surgery. Yes....recovery is LOOOOONG, painful and frustrating. The first two shoulder surgeries it took one year to feel completely back to normal. I am two mos post op on this rotator cuff surgery and still have pain. the most important part is to do your exercises and follow instructions EXACTLY as directed....this recovery takes patience and overdoing it can really set you back or hurt you permanantly so take it really slow. All 3 of my surgeries have been extremely successful...I have full range of motion in my right arm with no pain...I am able to go 180 with my left crawling up a wall, I start my strenthening exercises in 4 weeks...looking forward to a pain free existance!
