When I first originally posted this, I also got sick again 2 months later, and they did a blood test and I had "traces of Mono" (whatver that means). I never got all-out sick. But I am not sure if this was part of the Mono or not. When I went to the doc 2 months later, I had been super tired and getting headaches, just not feeling good at all. Did the doctor test for mono?

The same day I lost my appetite I began feeling very tired and sleeping 12 hours. (Still feeling tired and weak.) I didn't eat for an entire day and called my Doctor the next day to get an appointment. He ran some blood tests to check basic liver and pancreas stuff. Then, on day ten, my bowel movements turned orange (Yay! No more yellow. I guess...) and changed to diarrhea. They have been that way four days now.

I have no other symptoms like vomiting. No fever. Maybe mild nausea on occasion, but very little if any. I'm losing weight - five pounds already. And this not eating/total loss of appetite/not wanting to eat is obviously not a good thing. After I'm up for hours my appetite might change to "food doesn't totally repulse me" and then I eat something. But no where near a normal amount of food on any given day. I also seem to feel bloated and unreasonably full in my stomach no matter how little I eat. The results of the tests he ran all came back today in normal ranges - I can see them in my on-line record. But I'm no MD and he won't see the results until he gets to the office on Monday.

Ok, so I know he's done blood tests to check pancreas and liver functions and to a lay person those results all came back in normal ranges. He absolutely doesn't think it would be pancreatic cancer. Where should I got with this discussion with my MD on Monday?

I want a cookie! Or something ANYTHING that might be appealing. Unfortunately, right now I can't think of anything. Sigh...

Hi.

Thanks for the reply. No, he didn't test for mono. He did some basic liver & pancreas tests and everything came back normal.

Since I first posted the b.m. color was normal for one day. Now it consistently has a greenish/yellow tint to it. It's in the range of normal, but not a normal color for me.

The appetite is back - thank god - but I'm still feeling tired and wiped out. That seems to be cycling up and down, even within the same day.

I don't see this as mono because I have had none of the top tier symptoms for it like a high fever, swollen glands, headaches or a sore throat. I have had no fever at all throughout this.

I see my MD next week for follow up. I will ask, but this doesn't appear to be mono.

I am soooo tired of this.

sounds like a bug, given the severity. the color could indicate that the bile has had insufficient time to settle, giveing the stool its typical brown color. alot of test fail to detect bugs, even when they are full blown.

that said, there is another possibility; actually, ive seen this to be the case a few times with different people. people get low sulfer for alot of reasons like pollution, certain nutrients (like high dose vitamin c, copper, b5) germs (which expend our sulfer reserves) and mostly dietary fat. this one friend of mine had horrible diarrhea with whole milk and not skim, so she ignorantly though she was lactose intolerant. i got her to try some sulfer bearing aminos and in 5 days she could drink whole milk with no diarrhea. when i talk about sulfer, im not talking about msm (which i havent found to have therapeutic value). Im talking about methionine, n-acetyl cysteine, and threonine. my friend took 1500mg methionine, 1800mg n0acetyl cysteine, and 2ooomg threonine per meal and the stool normalized. actually, these nutrients are used to construct bile acids and improve fat absorbtion, so that fat doesnt sit in the gi tract and cause problems. a doctor named don lepore wrote an awesome book that talkes alittle about how to properly manage dietary fat by getting the right nutrients in. basically, when these aminos are low, the body starts reacting bad to fat intake; symptoms include heaviness in the chest, chills, tiredness, and a sore thoat (if you have your tonsils still, which are basically a sack that hold sulfer and let you know if supplies of it are low). we ordered the powders from a site called nutrabio.com since that was the cheapest way to get the stuff. the theory here is that u caught a bug and your body used its supplies that would help metabolize fat to clear the bug, and now you have an ongoing condition. the amino powder test here will give results in 5 days of faithful usage, and even though alot of docs dont consider this, it makes sense when you consider you have a sign of low bile and you are putting the amino acids that comprise bile and act as lypotrophics.

Just in case anybody comes across this post.  I had many of these same symptoms.  It ended up being related to my gallbladder.  If you find you have these symptoms after an abnormally fatty meal or series of them (like the holidays) it could be your gall bladder.

yeah, the gallbladder produces bile which is what we uses to digest fats; actually, people have gallbladder problems all the time, but they typically 'resolve themselves" when the body gets what it needs; there are various techniques to flush the blockage, though i dont recommend them; they work i mean; ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web

and yeah, hundreds of stones come out, but i think the more effective and easy way is to use pinpoint nutrition. besides, the stones are forming because the body lacks the nutriton to deal with them. sulfur increases bile secretion; taurine is a constituent of bile and it is a sulfer containing amino acid; i dont recommend msm, but nac (n-acetyl cysteine) is awesome; i know someone who did great at 1800mg three times daily with meals, along with methionine. also, the blockage is typically a composite of minerals and hardened bile that accumulated around them; the minerals are mostly calcium; a magnesium that actually works is one called albion magnesium; you can get it at swansonvitamins. at the right dose, magnesium will dissolve and carry out the calcium from there, as its function is to carry calcium through the body. fyi, these stones can be an indication of periods of low dietary calicum, resulting in the utilization of bone calcium (mono ortho) which is harder for the body to get rid of. magnesium works; in some cases (excess dietary calcium) lecithin is useful for its lipotrophic (fat emulsifying power) as well as its phosphorus content. finally vitamin can assist the magnesium. i knew someone who needed 200mg twice daily; we lowered the dosage when her bowel transist time increased, as this is a sign the dose is too high. anyway, i hope what you take out of this is that gallbladder surgery is absolutely unnecessary. i knew a woman whose doctor never told her what she would be missing when they took it out for her. when i met her, she told me that and we got her a spectracell blood test; of course, she was low in every mineral; my point is that bile is necessary to make minerals from food absorbable, hence they are called fat soluable. also, she had bowel complaints post surgery. we had alot of succes using albion minerals as these use exclusively minerals in their elemental forms and thus bile is not required. also, they do not suppress other mineral levels and they cannot be suppressed by minerals eaten at the same time as all the carriers are provided and tested.

anyway, about the sulfer/fat relationship. its interesting to note that any kind of virus is going to drastically deplete sulfer. smoking does as well, as does eating large amounts of vitamin c and copper

For the past four days, something has been wrong with my appetite, stomach, intestines, or something. I have no idea. But all of a sudden, one day I was hungry, but when i tried to eat something, I would lose my appetite. Kind of sounds like an oxymoron, I know, but it's the only way I can describe it. If I don't eat something, naturally my stomach growls and eventually starts to hurt. Then I force myself to eat it (I am very hungry and feel better when there is something in my stomach.) Then after a little while, usually 10-15 minutes, my stomach starts to hurt and I go to the bathroom. I am having yellow stools. I've never had this before. They are actually yellow, and weird looking: not diarrhea or loose bowls, but a mix between normal and loose bowels. Once they're out, I feel much better. But then my stomach eventually starts to hurt again because it's empty, and it all starts over. I can't be anorexic, because I LOVE food, and it just started out of nowhere! I think I am going to the doctor tomorrow, and I wonder if that will even help.

If anyone has any idea at all why this is happening to me, please leave a post!

Did you go to the doctor? What was the outcome? I would definately have this checked out by a doctor. Don't wait. It could be that you picked up a bacteria of some sort that is affecting your stomach or it could be a something more serious. Do get is checked and keep us posted.

Sadly my mother had that - went to the doctor's and was diagnosed with final stage IV liver cancer and she died 4 weeks later. GET TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!!!

I am having the exact same problems as the original poster. Is eating yogurt really safe for this, because I drank a glass of milk and threw it right back up about an hour later

After a week of all of it, my stomach finally started to welcome food again (my friends also made sure that I ate). I had lost 5 pounds. Now, I think I have already gained back those five pounds. It has been about a week and a half since i started feeling better. I never went to the doctor because by the time I got a chance to go, I was starting to feel better. So I don't know what was wrong with me. I figure it was some kind of bacteria. My stools were back to normal color, and I had started gaining my appetite back. Now, I am eating again. So it is all good, and nothing happened to me besides losing a few pounds.

I did *not* have pain or vomiting. If you do you need to get that checked out ASAP. You didn't say where the pain is, but it could be a gall stone blocking a bile duct. That was one of my MD's speculations about what was the source of my symptoms, but "atypical me" didn't have any pain that is usually associated with gall stones. If you have pain and vomiting plus additional symptoms see someone very soon.

If it's not your liver, pancreas, or gall bladder, and already have had blood tests and all of that it's either because of GERD or Giardia. I'm currently been having all the problems for the past 3-4 months and have lost close to 20 pounds. I'm still going through the motions of going in and out of the doctor's office. They thought it was GERD at first and have prescribed me drug after drug with no avail. I'm thinking it's Giardia or something else to do with my intestines as every treatment they've done for my stomach hasn't worked. They're having me see a gastroentoralogist in a month but am almost to the point of telling my doctor off or something, anything to get my appetite back. My doc thought it was GERD from the get go even though I told her I've been having upset stomach, nausea, stomach pains, far more than the feelings of heartburn. I'm personally thinking it's Giardia but only time will tell.

I have all these symptoms, but my liver, pancreas results are normal - apart from my bilirubin level, which is abnormally high. I have Gilbert's Syndrome, which is usually diagnosed when your bilirubin level is high, but your liver function is otherwise normal.

Most doctors - particularly General Practitioners still believe that Gilbert's Syndrome is asymptomatic (no symptoms) however it is becoming more widely accepted that digestive problems, fatigue, appetite loss, yellow/pale stools (amongst many other symptoms) are associated with the condition.

Ask your doctor about your bilirubin level.

I dont know anything about gilbert's, but a friend of mine recently had issues with an enlarged spleen, which is said to be afected by the liver. she had fatigue, low appetite, and a feeling things weren't flowing right in her body. there was occasional jaundice and itchy skin, which indicated liver problems so she took an usually potent curcumin 95% extract at 500mg 3x daily. after trying everything from adenal protocalls, to lactic acid reducing supplements, this was the only product that both entirely rid of her muscle aches and tiredness, and it improved her appetitie; this supplement and a 200mg ubiquinol has cut her sleeping time by 40%! we had no idea inflammation was even a problem, but now it seems that was the case, along with poor circulation. Im not saying its the answer here, but if it helps with every symptom, that can only help what you are dealing with

This morning for the first time that I can recall that I displayed the yellow bowel movement similar to what has been stated by others in previous threads/replies. It is soft, but semi solid (8AM/61 yrs young). Usually it takes food 21 hours, give or take to process food through the system. I thought back to yesterday mid morning to noon. Whenever I am over stressed I tend to have a uncomfortableness at the entrance area of the ascending colon around the iliocecal valve (where small and large intestines meet). I have been under a reasonable amount of stress latey. Wife's mother is seriously ill with brain cancer. My wife has just returned from a 6 week stay with her mother. We got into a really bad arguement over something very petty. It was in the time period of 21 hours previous to the yellow submarines. She came to me early this morning and apologized (7:15 AM). I still have an indicator of stress in my lower right colon entrance area, but to a lesser extent. We shall see what happens later on today.
