Thanks for having asked the question Grandprix & the thread of responses to it. I stopped 2 years ago and developed much of the same issues. Even as a child my digestion was awful. I expected fatigue, possible weight gain and reflux when I stopped smoking since that was a known side effect of quitting. The other symptoms of foggy brain & fatigue are gone but the intense stomach pains/burning & gastroparesis sent me to the GI doc where I was diagnosed with genetic liver disorder, and stomach was normal. The liver specialist believed my liver was the cause of the dyspepsia and I was told to drink a gallon of water daily. The water helps, but doesn't eliminate stomach issues. I've began to suspect that the gut bacteria is a factor when I noticed that yogurt can cause the pain to lessen or abate temporarily. So thanks for all the suggestions & especially that there is a solution once dysbiosis condition is balanced.

Glad I found this group, thought I was losing my mind and felt like I was going to just give up.  Quit smoking cold turkey 6 months ago, after smoking just under a pack a day for 38 years, and within the last 2 weeks have felt horrible, often worse than horrible.  The pain just after eating anything is excruciating.  The burning just above my stomach/under my ribs (front) and the burning sensation in my back is unbearable.  I can barely get any sleep, and feeling so depressed,

Just yesterday I started using MiraLax and today began taking turmeric.  Have been eating Activia and Greek yogurt since about 4 days ago.  Does anyone know how long it takes to see a difference, and if I ever will?

Oh gosh, I have quit for 6 months, cold turkey, and am miserable. All the bloating, gas, indigestion, bad pain under my ribs above the stomach, pain in my back, etc, etc. Did it really help you instantly? I would really hate to start back up, but I can not take this digestive pain, frustration and depression any more.

Hello All
Im a qualified aromatherapist and have just given up smoking over the last 2 weeks, i smoked for over 20 years..
My gosh my belly is bloated and the burning sensation after eating is horrid! not to mention the wind!!
I am getting such relief from massaging essential oils into my abdomen! i highly recommend you visiting your local aromatherapist, she will be able to make you a personalised blend and give you instructions of how to massage the flow of the colon.
Also i place a teaspoon of linseed's in a glass of water before bed. In the morning strain the seeds off and drink the water, this gets things moving if your suffering from constipation.
keep hydrated and eat plenty of fruit and veg, a gentle walk after food and then lye down on your left side for 20 mins is also beneficial.

keep up the good work all
you can do it!!!

Your are awesome! Exactly the same damn thing that happened to me! Except I’m a guy LOL so after 1 yr and a half one day boom-smoker again! Didn’t matter I completed a 5k, sprint triathlon(swim bike run) and a 10k during that time...One was enough to make me feel like it ALL was for nothing...fast forward #2 yrs and now currently #1 week smoke free

I quit 5 months ago. Since then, I ate like a pig to compensate for the cravings, eating late at night, gained a bit of a belly and felt like like my metabolism stopped more recently. The acid reflux ate away at my throat, started with a reoccurring sore throat that freaked me right out too.

Anyways, I am now using that gross pink Pepto and Zantc while reducing my bad food intake.
I also believe exercising might help to get the metabolism moving again.

They say lack of exercise is as bad as smoking too. Nothing beats than, than learning things are too late because a lack of it, heaven forbid.

...we'll see... I feel better when the Zantac allows me to go to the washroom (number 2) and pass gas... I will drink more water too, as my midsection is bloated.

It is not quitting to smoke but starting to eat more I would bet. Also exercise to stimulate what the nicotine was doing except smoking WILL kill you, excercise qiote the contrary.

After 6 months of TOTALLY no smoking, you should not have depression or major discomforts, see a doc if you do!

Hello , I am writing this because I too am at whitts end , on the 27th of November 2017 , I think I contracted food poisoning . The first ,second and third week were absolutely horrible , vomiting near enough every day No appetite at all , bad insomnia , pain in the lower left side of abdomen , gurgling stomach , severe nausea , and irregular stool and bad constipation , within that time frame I went to my GP 3 times and A AND E 4 times due to my symptoms getting the best of me . Up until a couple of days ago I made the realisation that food posin will not last this long and also if there was they would have found it in my stool sample . Now I’ve been smoking for 11 years I would say a pack a day but one other thing that I have not seen on this forum I have read from the page 1 by the way , so I also have smoked weed too for the last 11 years , about 5 years ago I would smoke about 3-5 spliffs a day , past 3 years I smoke 1-2 , example of how my day used to look like : wake up 7 : 30 go to the toilet and make stool , sometimes it was eating cornflakes and milk first then going to the toilet or sometimes before I eat , make my way to work for 9, tea at 10:30 or at 11:00 which I would eat a toasted cheese sandwich, with a cup of tea and crisp , 2pm is lunch always would be fast food , subway, sams chicken , kfc, Iranian from the place next to me ( my weakness) so then 5 I leave to come home and bear in mind my thoughts were solely on smoking weed I would eat like a tiny bit of whatever food was at home cooked just to have something in my stomach then go smoke a fat splif and if I was swing my friend that day we would smoke 2 between us , I would then come home it would be 7-30 - 8 and that is when the munchies start , anything And EVERYTHING I could eat I would sweets , crisps, puddings , fruits , you name it I could and would eat it and pretty much wake up and repeat , so since the 27th of November i have been been absolutely smoke free without the use of any patches , e cig or anything ( cold turkey) , i have done a stool culture , blood test and the next step will probably be a gastroenterologist but the tests have showed up with nothing being wrong but a deficiency in vitamin d which is unrelated so I stumbled upon this site while google’ing my symptoms , which by the way is NOT good to be doing as it can make you think the worst which contributes to the anxiety , my back round : I’m 22 years old birthday was on December 6 (spent the day in a and e yayyy) i work as an apprentice mechanic , ride a Kawaksi Ninja 636 (big motorbike) m , and I am a healthy man in general , confident and humble , was in the gym 3-4 times a week lifting weights and gaining muscle , diet was not the worst but not the best either as in everyday I would eat fast food due to the job at lunch but always a cooked meal when I came home , I was never an anxious person or weak in the mind but ever since what has happened to me my life has changed so much and it has comeplelty changed me , I don’t want to go to the gym , I have not been to work ever since the 27th of November , I can barely eat anything , lost a couple Kg , I also just have a general feeling of doom , the past week that has gone by I am trying my best to be positive and I can safely say though I’m not 100 percent by a long shot I am better than how I was at the start , smoking for so long weed and ciggs I never thought it would be this hard to stop , I feel like the years of smoking the I had become numb And blind to the world shovelling in so much rubbish into my body when I was high ( I don’t drink btw , I would love to know other people’s thoughs and insights and their own journey and I would also like to say to any id**t that believes that stopping smoking has no withdrawal or affects on the body and say that it all in your head I would politely like to say F You .

Been taking oral Vitamin E and Vitamin C supplements every night for a month and a half (with a week's break in between) and decided to finally quit smoking after Christmas. Also quit dairy and sugar. Nothing else. Replaced dairy based beverage with warm water+lime juice+black salt. Drink that maybe 3-4 times a day. Just have the excessive gas. Lost around 2.8kgs since Xmas, there's no bloating, got a bit constipated but I figured that was probably because I didn't drink as much plain water as I'm used to because the salted like water made me feel more hydrated than the regular sugar based tea or coffee. The gas is the only issue so far. Has anyone had just that and no other problem after quitting?

I gave up smoking almost 1 year ago and was fine for 2 months apart from wanting a cigarette. I had rolled my own for 30 years but had been smoking for 50 years. After 3 months I had occasional bouts of indigestion and this got worse after 7 months. Bloating, excess gas etc etc. Saw 4 different doctors who examined my stomach, all sent me for blood tests and one of them prescribed Lansoprazole.
That helped a little but the problems persisted. I then gave up milk and found that the bloating was slightly better. God knows how long this lasts but hopefully it will go eventually.
