dunno if this helps but I tried back in the day to quit and had all the crazy bad GI stuff like everyone else going on to the point I started to smoke again at around the 3 month mark. Eventually I did quit smoking about 4 years ago by vaping, I feel great, way better than when I was smoking cigs and never had the GI issue reoccur. Some people really want to quit but for me I really like the nicotine and find that vaping is a good compromise with many benefits and few disadvantages. Sending good vibes for anyone going through this now.

That's great to know when you give up smoking makes you feel quite rubbish for a while hearing this message and all others is good to know, that you are not alone and that things will improve

Guys, I have the same symptoms everyone else is describing. I'm on day 60 and my gut feels absolutely terrible. For past 3 weeks, after having fried food for Thanksgiving, my stomach aches/gas/bloating have been a nightmare. I seriously thought I must have stomach cancer of some kind. I was a 10-15 cigarettes/day smoker for 15 years.

I've been water fasting and drinking fresh vegetable juice using my juicer, it helps. I feel overall way way way better however the gastrointestinal issues are a challenge. Keep on keeping on guys, at least you are no longer killing yourself!

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I actually found this because I quit last year and I have the worst acid, never had it before, I eat tums like candy and even quit eating meat and dairy. I find bananas and aloe vera juice help coat the receptors in my stomach but nothing gives me long term relief so I often wake up during the night and have acid in my throat. it is misery

bjo210152 can you please tell me what herbal cleanse regimen you were doing. It has only been 6 weeks for me since I quit and besides the digestive issues I am experiencing serious anxiety which is causing my whole body to ache in pain. I really don't want to throw in the towel because the upside is I can breathe better and have more energy. And you are so right about it not being just the nicotine that's bad because I am still on the patch. Just finishing the last stage. Thanks in advance

I quit smoking a couple of times. Digestive issues were my number one complaint; next headaches from strong smells. I found that eating fruits is helpful. However I purchased a good quality vegetable digestive enzyme and it improved my overall discomfort instantly. I hope this helps you with your non smoking success.

Agree. I smoked for 25 years and now I want to heal in one day. Quit last week. Insane. I have pain everywhere though: lungs, heart, back, stomach, belly....I mean, there is nothing that does not hurt. Going to see a doctor this week.

Hey this is just a theory I have and something that worked for me after quitting smoking. So I have histamine intolerance due to nutritient deficiencies from undereating since cigarette smoking decreased my appetite. I also have a genetic issue with making DAO which breaks down histamine. There are four types of histamine receptors: H1, H2, H3, and H4. H1 are the ones that are associated with typical allergies and allergic reactions. These are what antihistamines like Benadryl and Claritin block. H2 receptors are found primarily in the stomach. These help with turning fat into ketones during fasting (bad idea for everyone since high histamine leads to earlier death!) or on a low-carb (kill you slowly and miserably) diet. Next, H2 receptors make stomach acid. H3 and H4 don't matter all that much for this discussion.

So cigarettes liberate a ton of histamine (more than stress, food, exercise, combined!). This means that they stimulate stomach acid production. They also stimulate and concentrate bile production as well, which is where the colon cancer comes from. When you quit smoking suddenly, your body has to know to make stomach acid and bile again and this takes time. You also MUST eat adequate animal products and their fats when quitting. It may be painful, but it's necessary. You can also supplement Betaine HCL with Pepsin for low stomach acid and/or Ox Bile Salts for low bile. Low bile can lead to constipation and fat malabsorption, also gallstones. Low stomach acid can lead to indigestion, histamine intolerance, candida overgrowth, all manner of digestive issues, IBD, and eventually leaky gut and thus autoimmunity.

Google how to test for stomach acid levels with baking soda at home. It's 100% accurate and almost free. Make sure baking soda is aluminum free.

Good luck!!

You may have a fungus that has surfaced. Nicotine suppresses a lot of the fungus in your body and when you stop they all grow out of control. i quit smoking and have been fighting candida albicans fungus in my gut, esophagus, and overgrowth into my mouth ever since.

I hate to hear this, but I'm glad to find it. I have the same problem after a year and a half and it only seems to get worse. I resorted to trying smoking again just for relief and it has helped, but I'm not smoking nearly as much as before I quit. I really don't want to have to do that but this is a real problem for some and I can't find any answers besides "it'll go away in a few weeks". That's just not happening.b

I was a smoker for 40 years. After getting the flu/Covid?? (Negative test) I just made the decision. I’m not doing a patch, gum or prescription of any kind. I am now working on month 3 of not smoking. Within a few days of quitting I had severe constipation so I tried taking some probiotics for a few days which helped a little. Since then I haven’t taken anything. At this point in time I’ve decided that my body just has to get adjusted to all the changes. Along with quitting smoking I also quit sodas. The sodas taste like chemicals (don’t know if it was Covid or the cigarettes that made my taste change). So a lot of changes to create constipation. Its getting better and I see my digestive track back to normal soon.
