It's 4:30 a.m.and I've just been woken up yet again by the pain underneath my chest. I have to pass my bowels but am afraid of getting up out of bed because my heart will begin to beat too fast. This has always led to panic in the past and has ended up with me in the emergency room. My life has been a total pile of sh*t since December 2011. I lost my job, broke ties with my family and totally quit smoking. Therefore, I understand that my body has undergone some major changes both physically and mentally. However, waking up before dawn due to pain and difficulty breathing, (which by the way, is somewhat relieved by burping copious amounts of both gas and sick) is only one of my symptoms. In the last year I have visited the A&E room at least a dozen times with the same complaints: dizziness, tachycardia, cold sweats, vomiting, panic attacks, increased bowel movements, pain in the left side shoulder and back. To go from being a healthy weightlifter to becoming an invalid who is scared to even fart too hard is a devastating blow to the psyche, and one which has hindered me from leading a normal life, so much so in fact that I am contemplating quitting my new job as a teacher and signing off sick full-time. I'm only 31 and feel that this is something that should not be happening to someone of my age. Living under the constant daily fear that you're going to die is something that takes a bit out of you each day, and slowly withers you away. I'm attending CBT sessions at the moment, to see if dealing with stress will help deal with my ailment, but I think it is physically too far gone. My wife is pretty adamant that I have a stress induced stomach ulcer, mainly due to the vomiting, acid reflux and digestion issues, but that doesn't explain the shortness of breath and rapid heartbeats...(or does it). Sometimes I feel like life is no longer worth living if I am to carry on like this. Sometimes I have good days which feels like a fluke. All I know is I share all of your sorrows and concerns, and the fact that we are all still suffering but are looking for answers means that perhaps there is chance of us helping each other. I would like to suggest that we create an online community which supports people with our condition, so that it may lead to increased recognition both within the medical field and as general knowledge. I believe that this should be an entirely free service which is devoid of any financial investment, and is purely run based upon the devotion and cooperation of people like us who are seeking the answers behind an illness which is both debilitating and terrifying. I urge you all to help each other in taking this forward, and maybe, just maybe, we can open doors for others who have been suffering. I hope this message reaches you in good health.

Not sure where to write this but I've had some issues where I feel like my head will explode during bm's, but doesn't happen all the time. Scary feeling like I'm gonna have heart attack. Have thyroid issues too. Stumbled on to a website for autonomic dysreflexia which seemed to really fit even tho it states that it happens to people who have had spinal injuries which I haven't had. All the symptoms fit though so thought I'd throw this out there in hopes it might give someone some answers. I may have spelled it wrong though.

i have the cure i cured my self thanks god i can help all of you here in the forum to get better and go back to being healthy within 1 to 3 moths . Only by eating the right foods and adding my natural formulas i prepared. the main cause of all the symptoms you people are describing here starts with the part of "VAGUS NERVE " in the colon that is malfunctioning do to high acidic foods we eat which in turn disturbs the vagus nerve and causes it to mail function sending the wrong signals to the rest the vagus nerve going through all the rest of the organs. that is why all the doctors cannot help or cure us and believe me i know what i am talking about after suffering for 20 years i had enough. i went into a long gurney researching the connection between the central nerve the vagus nerve and the digestive system , and finally i found the right way to cure my self naturally. i am now a naturopathic healer specialising in curing the digestive system , the central nervous system , the vagus nerve and much more. i will be happy to help each one of you by getting all the info needed from each one of you individually. to find out exactly the real causes of each one suffering from the symptoms described in this forum. it is very important to remember that we all are not the same, and i must learn each case separately. to really be successful in helping  cure and get you better. feel free to contact me here or my mail -

This is called "Vasovagal Syncope," and it's horrible.

I've dealt with 2 attacks of it.

Shortly after starting a bowel movement, you just don't feel right. Then, the heartrate increases. (Mine was around 150-160 bpm.) Anxiety takes over at this point. You end up covered in a drenching sweat, feel dizzy, feel a sense of impending doom, can't think straight, ringing in the ears, and may start start vomiting. Finally, the headache (migraine for some) sets in, and it may last for days.

My wife is a nurse, and immediately recognized the symptoms. I researched it, and just about every symptom matched.

If any of this happens to you, go see a doctor. (I see mine today.) This is a common problem, but it doesn't seem like there are too may ways to treat it, and you'll want to have you doctor confirm that this wasn't actually a coronary event.

Wow! I can't believe I found someone going through what I am as well! I have been to see atleast 10 different doctors now, all kinds of tests and everything else ran, no answers. I am very interested in your case though! It sounds so similar to mine! Please reply back to me if you get this, I would love to compare notes! I tried to explain how I felt disoriented to my family and the DR's when I would have a BM and it was like no one understood!

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). I have hyperadrenergic POTS and can relate to many of your complaints. Please look into it and feel free to message me if you would like more information.

sir . me too have same problem and i m only 23yo. i accept your feeling are actually like what i feel sometime.. but i just want to say something.. that i have learned all in such a small age that its our life problem are our.. as much we feel we are not normal it just makes our mental positive attitude. life is a game of what we feel. every one has problem. may be u have much more than others but still if we post a small hope and comedy type thing like we can say "i m playing with my heart beats i know its nothing more than it has more love for ur wife and thats y its beating faster" . even after reading ur text i felt depressed. bt then i thought to motivate every one and if we are aware of actual pain or sufferings then its only we guys who can solve it . i hope i m right and will live my life with a positive attitude.

You know why you can't get a definitive answer?? Because there is no definitive answer to your symptoms. There are so many things that can cause it, most of which are actually benign. Many people experience these things all their lives and don't pay it much attention because they are not neurotic about their health like us. You have been to a medical professional and that is as much as you can do, let yourself be at peace. Here is some great advice and it is the best advice you will ever get regarding what is going on with you --Get out of your head and into your life!

The best advice I ever got was listening to myself...

Hi, I'm waking up in the night with palpitations and having to use the bathroom. It happens at the same time every night. Makes me so nervous I'm afraid to fall asleep. Are you still having this happen?

I'm very interested in how to end all this.

I've had the same problem. I'm 39, 25 lbs overweight, not physically fit. I get that warm fuzzy (not good fuzzy) feeling, then I have rapid heart rate and followed by that panicky feeling. After I try to calm myself, I feel "funny down there" and have to have a bowel movement. I have not been to a doctor about it, its embarrassing, but I do not have sleep apnea. It happens anytime of the day, not at sleep.

Look up POTS SYNDROME (POSTURAL OTHOSTATIC TACHYCARDIA SYNDROME)

You all should get your thyroid levels checked. Millions of Americans have it and don't realize it. I do. I also wake up sometimes during the night with rapid heart rate and have to have a bowel movement. Mine is constipation. One night it was causing me a sour tummy and I vomited but I felt so much better after. I also eat a lot. More than I need to but I always feel hungry, if that makes sense. Eating less would be a huge help, of course. Don't know how to have self control when I feel sick to my stomach during times of hunger moments. It's going to take a lot of mental practice on my part.
