I had a total VH done on Oct 7th. After the surgery I was a little bloated but was up to use the washroom within an hour of waking up. The nurses were so amazed that I was able to do that and the surgeon as well, that I actually got to go home that night!
The ride home, which was about 30 minutes, was rough and I paid for it once I got home. MY biggest problem was having a BM. I was very gassy and actually had to take laxatives.
I had minimal bleeding and I didn't require a catheter or any packing after my surgery.
It's been about 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery and after about 5 days from my surgery, I felt quite normal - like I didn't even have surgery! That is the problem!!
I think I've over done it and have been out and about a bit and the last week I've been very tired and today I actually have quite a bit of cramping and lower back pain.
I'm fortunate enough that I can work from home and started doing so on Oct 12th and can work at my liesure. However, with the recent cramping pain that I am having, I may be in for a visit to the doctor unless is goes away... It's been a balance of resting and moving for me but finding that balance is difficult as I am one to be on the move all the time..
I suggest that once you have the surgery, really try hard to rest and not do too much even though you may feel fine especially for the first two weeks. I don't suggest driving for the first two weeks and when you are able to drive, only short distances..
I didn't have any morphine for my surgery afterwards and just received some Tylenol 3's and some anti-inflammatory suppositories, which taken together really helped those first few days. Right now all I take is the odd Extra Strength Tylenol.
Over all, the surgery is well worth it if you are having any sort of problems and not planning on having kids...
Hello All,
Not sure who will read this but I had a hysterectomy to remove my uterous and cervix on the the 12th of May 2011. The night after the surgery I had some pain similar to bad menstral cramps. I was given percuset for the the pain. The next day I had very little pain. I was instructed by the doctor to urinate on my own before I could go home. They removed the cathedar and I was able to pee ( a little) on my own. I went home and the next day I felt great. If I hadn't been to the hospital and wasn't aware that I had surgery, I would have never known it. In fact, I felt so wonderful that I wanted to get up and start moving around. Fortunately for me I had my husband make me lay down. Within the next few days I felt even better. But the following week I realized that I had to go to the restroom (urinate) a bit more than usual. I told my doctor and she had me deliver a urine sample. The next day she called to tell me that I had a UTI (very common with this type of procedure). I had my husband pick up the amoxicillin and within a few days the urine frequency stopped. Something I forgot to mention was, initially I had trouble passing stool, but that problem went away about the fourth day and I was able to go pretty reguarly with the help of stool softeners. It is now six weeks post op and I feel like a new person. I don't have anymore horrible periods caused by enlarged fibroids and I am no longer required to pop a birth-control pill each morning.
Bottom Line: I am so happy that I decided to have this procedure. My sex drive is high and I am at the end of my six weeks. I'm sure you all know what that means. This post is dedicated to the women who are nervous or hesitant to have this operation. I had mine done vaginally and as I stated earlier in the post, if I wasn't the one who had it done, I would have never known something took place. My body feels better than it ever has. Good luck to you ladies and on with your life.
Sincerely,
Tmarie
had no pain from the time of my surgery was over at all just pressure which was pretty tolerable.
you will do fine just remember to do exactly what your doctor tells you to do
I had my surgery one week ago today, like they say you feel good soon after but don't fool yourself, It was an easy surgery but now I am tired and constipated, running low on pain pills, they work good for the cramping, nothing severe.
Hi there i had a vaginal hysterectomy 4 weeks ago came home after 2 days then ended up back in with a post opp infection.Had major antibiotics for 4 days. Then came home.Recently went to doctors and i still have infection, man its getting beyond a joke.I have no vaginal pain just stomach cramps which is apparently the infection.Still bleeding aswell which they said only lasts 2 weeks.Would be nice if someone can tell me the bleeding is ok.Its not heavy its just so frustrating getting told one thing.I guess its back to the docs for me.
