Maybe you people should go to the doctor instead of asking all over the internet.

I did go to the dermatologist, thinking as a skin specialist he would have a good idea what it was. He prescribed cortisone cream and it helped a little but then about 5 days later it came back strong as before. Several other people said the same thing, their Dr's were stumped, or prescribed cortisone cream and it wasn't effective

I've had the same problem for 4 years running now. I've read things about allergies etc but I can't see how after 25 years of no problems that suddenly I'll become allergic to something. Creams don't work and the doctors don't have a clue what it is (surprise surprise the NHS doesn't know anything, they put my wife's headache down to just a headache after a few visits to the hospital when actually she had a serious blood disorder that was on the verge of killing her, and it was only in Turkey where it was diagnosed, so don't trust the doctors in the UK!) anyway the point being, this started when I moved to London and continued even after I moved from London back into Birmingham. The only thought I have is the water. Over the last few years I've noticed the taste of water is getting dirtier and dirtier to the point where if you leave it out for 10 minutes in a glass it'll taste like someone's put mud into it. I don't think the water companies are filtering out the water like they're suppose to and something about this time of year that changes it more, maybe a bacteria or germ or something thrives in this weather and we're drinking it or showering in it and it's messing our bodies up. Obviously it wouldn't affect everyone because people have different immune systems and ways of fighting off disease, but the only thing in my life that has changed is the taste of water so logically that is the only thing I can think of that could possibly do this, especially after reading the one post about working in water. I think we should have the water board investigated because it's very possible they are poisoning people.

The point is is that the doctors don't help. You either have the same problem or you're just about for a bit of attention, but why would you even look for symptoms if you don't have any and if you did and you went to the doctor, please let us all know how they magically cured you and what they said it was because so far I haven't heard of a doctor or dermatologist who has a clue about what it is or anything else for that matter.

That sounds like ringworm...better check with a DR to be sure though...

ringworm, or a related fungal infection is circular, and the diameter increases with more of the itchy area on the margin.  Using a magnifying glass, you might notice that just beyond the margin there is a paler circle bordering it. (That is where it is next expanding to.) Skin fungal infections, like ringworm are considered highly contagious so do not share towels, as fungus can live in damp warm towel- a common way to catch it when people share towels.  We can also catch it from pets. Animals with ringworm loose hair in a circular patch, unlike mange which has an uneven border.  Be careful not to misdiagnose, as I took our cat to the vet for ringworm and he didn't have it- only lost hair in a cat fight.  On yourself, the  sign of ringworm is it expanding, with itchy raised bumps more on the outer edge (margin) and usually in an area that is moist- back of the hand isn't usually moist unless you was a lot.  If you wear gloves, you might want to throw them away, as you may have an irritant in them, or they may be damp inside- an ideal breeding ground for fungus.

I have the same thing as all of these people, went to the doctor, went to the dermatologist, my Aunt did give me a home remedy that got rid of it for years, but now it does not help.  It is really bad this year, I can not get rid of it, usually I can beat it with my Aunts home remedy, but it is reallly bad this year.  Hands and feet that is it, so weird.  Looks and feels horrible.  Surely, someone has an answer.  I think I am going to go to an allergist.

what was the home remedy?  Even temporary relief can be helpful.  Maybe your particular problem got immune to the home remedy

I have this too, and I've been getting it for about the past four years, usually just in the spring or beginning of summer. It starts with a few red bumps and then spreads out on my hand, and sometimes I get a few on my other hand too. They don't usually itch, but once in a while they burn a bit, and depending on where they end up, it can be a little bit painful to bend my fingers.

From what I've seen, it looks like it's most likely a form of eczema called dyshidrosis. It's limited to the hands and feet, and usually shows up during the spring. Mine has never been as bad as most of the pictures that are attributed to it, but some of the more mild ones look like what I have. Mine has always just gone away on its own, and it looks like the cause is still unknown. But that would be my best guess.

I had the same symptoms except they occur on the back of my left hand (I'm left handed). I found out that they would occur if i scratched my beard wtih the back of my hand, or was laying down on my beard at night. I don't have a full beard, just a 5 o'clock shadow type. So I started to make sure to not habitually scratch my beard with the back of my hand, and not lay my beard on the back of my hand at night and the symptoms disappeared. I guess the beard acted like a bunch of needles, irritating the skin.

Did you ever find out what was causing this? I have the same thing on my hands. It is worse on the right, and more painful than itchy. It started when I was pregnant, and still shows up when I wash my hands or put them even in plain water. The doctors said that I was probably allergic to something I came in contact with. My daughter is almost two now, and I wish that I could find a solution. I changed all of my soaps, and even got rid of my house plants.
