Ok, good to know that it may take 3-4 mos because right now, it's just hard to imagine. I went to Dr. Frankel at the Lasky Clinic in Beverly Hills. He's a very reputable plastic surgeon among patients and fellow doctors - I did lots of research in advance. So, I think I just have to trust... it's just hard, especially the thought of going back to work on Monday. Thanks for your support.

You can take some swelling down with ice. But for me anyway everytime I slept I would wake up more swelled again. You have to just for get about your looks for a couple of months. I know it is hard but no choice. The doctors tell you you will be ready to be out in public in a few days or a week. That is BS. Unless you call looking like you got punched in the face 50 times ready to go out in public. Only my experience though.

Calm down people...I am still dealing with this as well. I received my nose job 10 October 2008! I am still swollen, especially at the tip when I sleep on my face and eat water retaining foods (salty). It has been hard for me but! I realize that as the process of healing progresses.. no matter how swollen my nose is, it is not as big or wide as it was before surgery. I sleep on my back and on the days I just have to sleep on my stomach because i was tired, I will pop a few ibuprofen 800mg and hang upside down off my bed so the swelling can leave my face and eye area. You may also start to notice your eyes becoming puffy as well when you wake up. My Dr. showed me pictures of people three days later, smiling with no swelling...BS! It has been three months and you will still notice swelling. Stay positive and DON'T TOUCH YOUR NOSE! o.O

I got my nose done december 20th here in beverly hills. Its been one week. Cast and packing came out today. The swelling is insane. My whole face has puffed up like the kid from that Mask movie with Cher. As a female this is very hard to bare. I imagine as a guy it'd also be hard, but for a female especially. The new nose looks better than the one I had before but it is far from what I imagined. Doc said it would take 3mnths for swelling to go down but I've read online it can take a year or more. I say hang in there. I'm beyond depressed with my looks right now but hoping as time goes by my face will eventually look great. I don't understand how some ppl look just as new after a week. They must be mutants. This recovery takes a lot of patience but I'm sure in several months ill be happy. I feel like crying all the time right now when I look in the mirror but I'm sure ill get over it. Good luck. Hang in there and just wait. You're not alone. People at work can sod off. Don't mind what anybody thinks, you know what you went through.

I grew up with a large nose that was pointy and it killed me day to day..the low self confidence..i would always worry what people would think about my nose.

In 2002, I finally decided to do something about it. I got rhinoplasty performed (reconstruction). When the packing was removed from my nose, I was happy because it was a night and day difference. I lived over 1 1/2 year with a nice looking nose, I started to attract alot more females but something killed me about it. It was still a bit pointy on one side. So in March of 2004, I decided a REVISION.

This was the biggest mistake of my life. The surgeon (Saeed Marefat)agreed to do a tip revision and make it less pointy. But wrong!! FOllowing surgery, My nose was so puffed and swollen that it looked like a nose on top of a nose. For 3 years he insisted that it was just swelling but it was indeed scar tissue. It never went down, my nose looked worst than my original nose at birth. It was so ugly and disgusting that I lived the next 4 years of my life indoors, anti-social, etc. Several steroid kellog shots later, it didnt do anything. The surgeon refused to do anything else about it when i talked to him in 2006.

In 2007, I went back to him because I just couldnt live like this. i told him that i had spoken to other surgeons (Ronald Perlman) and they would be willing to do a scar tissue removal surgery. Saeed Marefat (orginal doctor) agreed to do the surgery for the price of $2000 for the surgery plus hospital fees, it turned out to be over $4,000.

I had surgery in January of 2008, and after the splint and packing was removed, I wasnt so horrified this time around, it somewhat resembled my nose in 2002 (first surgery) and at this point that is all i cared about..atleast have it at the same level as my original nose. There was still some swelling (or scar tissue?) on the nose but the profile and front looked great and it looked as if it would go down. However, the scar tissue remained, and overtime it actually started to look a bit worse because other parts of the nose was no longer swollen, just the tip and it made it stand out. So in November of 2008, I went and saw Ronald Perlman.

My sister had her nose done by him so I trusted him and all the great feedback hes had, not to mention top doctors in the USA. I just had surgery last tuesday for scar revision, but ronald perlman also told me he wants to add a bit of cartilage around the tip so the tip doesnt look so big compared to the rest of my nose. I told him no, but he kept suggesting it that I finally took his word.

I got the packing removed today and OMG I feel like crying right now. Not that Ronald perlman did a bad job, but my nose looks very similar to my 1st revision, it is so swollen, and my nose no longer curves, it is just straight due to the cartilage he added. My nose doesnt look good at all right now, the tip is very ugly right now, bulbous and nostrols look like some jeepers creepers movie. The staff told me to wait it out because the swelling will go down (how many times do you think ive heard that before?).

Right now Im just so hurt and Im losing hope. What is so complex about my nose that they simply cant make it normal like my first surgery, why does it end up bulbous and scar tissue with fat tips. I am praying for the swelling to go down but if i dont see an improvement in 2 weeks, that means its scar tissue all over again and I just made my nose worse than my last surgery. ALthough Perlman did agree to take the cartilage back out whenever i want to (if it means right this minute). But what about the rest of my nose? it looks worse than my pervious surgery.

And the thing that sucks about scar tissue is that in the hot summers or wherever theses heat, the nose gets more bulbous and swollen, its like the nose changes shape everyday from ugly to uglier and back to ugly. Im so sick of this, does anyone know of a scar specialist? :-(

Nothing against the two surgeons, personally I respect ronald perlman more than saeed marefat because perlman is actually a very good person as well. I think perhaps even Ronald Perlman didnt know what he was suppose to do to my nose because maybe he doesnt have experience with scar removal or his tastes are a bit different. I prefer the curvy look over the straight bridge look. He did a beautiful job on my sisters nose but right now I cant tell wether he did a good job on mine, since there is so much swelling all over my nose.

I am exactly where you guys are and it is so scary!!!! I am 2 weeks post op. and freaking out. I am told its swelling, but my nose looks so wide and smooshed in and flat from the front. The profile is "ok" . I still have a few spots of bruising under each eye. I don't think i was mentally/emotionally prepared for this. I don't know how you can be. I didn't HATE my nose, I did want improvement, but right now i don't feel too good about it. I am reassured that it is swelling and normal at this early stage and for the amount of work my surgery was. It helps but not enough to keep me from obsessing and feeling depressed and worried. I hate the sugar coating that goes on. Sure some people who have minor closed surgeries might be ok at 2 weeks, but not the rest of us. I wish i knew realisitally how long this will take. I want to feel like I look like me again, instead of getting hit in the face with a frying pan. Help!!!
Thanks, lets stick together through this to preserve our sanity.

i have to tell you guys i got my splint off today and could not be more happy. Yeah surgery and the first few days of recovery were a b***h but its TOTALLY worth it! Doctor David Rosenberg in New York is amazing i felt totally comftorable with him and had no worries. While all of my friends were worrying about their doctors i felt really good about mine. Yeah i am swollen now in my tip and lip but i couldnt be more happy with the results.

Missbrowneyes, the best you can do is hang in there. When I had my revision in 2004, the so called swelling that made my tip look bulbous and like it got hit with a fry pan look, never went down. From 2004 to 2008 the so called swelling I was told never went down one bit, and it turned out it was scar tissue. So far Ive had no luck with 2 scar revision surgery's, the scar tissue keeps coming back within the first week (was it ever fully removed?). I woke up this morning to look in the mirror to see if the swelling went down and my goodness, it seems to be scar tissue all over again.

Im not hoping for anything more at this point, i wasted 4 years of my life waiting for this so called swelling to go down and it never did, and then an additional year after my scar revison, and it never went down. If this is your first surgery Missbrowneyes, you should be fine with the swellign dissapearing gradually. It seems as if its the revisions that leave permanent swelling for life time.

i just had rhino done 6 days ago. i had a deviated septum fixed, 7 pieces of cartilage taken out, a filler put in on one side, the tip shortened, and i have stitches under my nose. it looks the exact same size as it did before, just even on both sides now, and it resembles a pig. i was so nervous and upset before but after reading these replies, i feel better. i hope that my nose goes down quickly, i want to see the result. after getting mocked for having a big nose my whole life, the last thing i want to do is spend $8,000 to make it worse!

i'm guessing mine will take a long time to go down, i had a lot done and it took Dr. Romo (nyc) 3 hours to do my nose. apparently everyone that worked with him thought i had a nose job before, that's how bad my nose was! thanks dad! but i'm still paranoid, i don't want to ever go through this again.

if anyone had a massive amount of work done like i did, please share your recovery story, i'm interested in hearing when your swelling finally went down.

Hi there! I had Septoplasty/Turbinectomy and Rhino... 2 weeks ago yesterday. You surgery interested me, because it sounds exactly what I had done... and am experiencing similar results. I am mainly concerned about the still apparent bump that I have on my nose... I specifically told the Dr. that I wanted it gone, I'm really hoping its just swollen. Did you have open/closed Rhino?

Im so glad I found this website.
I had my nose done almost 2 weeks ago, after waiting forever (22) years since the age of eight to have this done. I have hated my nose all my life. It looked like god just forgot about that part of my face and gave me what no one else wanted. It had no shape to it really, was flat on the top, not particularly big, but too wide for my face. I even had a doctor tell me once "you're a pretty girl, but your nose is a distraction" THANKS! I should have him pay my therapist bill after that...Anyway, so I got this surgery done and initially I was very happy with the results, but now after some swelling has gone down, Im wondering what is going on with the other side of my nose. Maybe its still swollen? I looks like its more lifted up on one side than the other. Everyone says it looks good and that it looks better, but c'mon?!?!? Is it really so much to ask to have a nice nose? I hope this other side goes down, otherwise Im asking for revisions and I how do I say that I want revisions? I really liked the doctor and he has done a couple of my friends noses, but the nurse keeps telling me "don't look for perfection, look for improvement"...so is that our motto? :-(

I've just had a 2nd revision 8 days ago and the lady above who said her nose looks like it has been smashed with a frypan, that is EXACTLY what my nose looks like now!

I had A LOT of work done, cartillage grafts, septum reconstruction, bone grafts and my nose looks horrible but I know it's only swelling.

My nose looks slightly better today than yesterday so it's just a waiting game.

It's really hard to have patience though.....it's also worrying that my nose will forever look like this but eventually it will look normal, revisions with a lot of work will take ages to look good again because of all the trauma and swelling.

hang in there
