I got rhinoplasty done the 26th of April so it will be almost a month since. When I first got it done I had a lot of swelling around my eyes and they were black and purple underneath but that went away after a week or so. My eyes still look rounder then usual because the bridge is still a bit swollen but the worst part is the tip. Its very swollen and round and it feels numb when I touch it. Ive been feeling nervous about it but I keep telling myself its gonna get better. During this time you need to stay positive and sourround yourself with positive people. My family and friends have been great throughout this process and I feel having them around has really helped me. Although I still have worries that the swelling of the tip is never going to go down. Im sick of being home and I would like to get back to work but I feel like people will make early judgements about what it looks like and they wont understand its still very swollen. I can see that others feel the same and this makes me feel better. I donth have patience for this sort of thing but its gonna take time and theres nothing that you can realli do. A good thing for the swelling is arnica its like a little mint that melts in your mouth and you can buy it at most nutrition stores or get it from the doctor. Ive been taking it from the beginning and it did make a difference with the swelling. For all those going through the same thing, stay positive and hang in there, im with on this one and its a difficult process but patience is the key. Goodluck and I hope for the best results for all!

I posted a couple earlier messages, the first one very unhappy one week after surgery, then a followup that it improved greatly 2 weeks post op. Now I'm 5 weeks post op and it looks great. Patience is key. The swelling and numbness of the tip is standard, as the tip is the very last to heal. My tip was extremely numb until a few days ago and is slowly going away. The overall swelling still fluctuates from time to time, but not by a lot.

I had rhinoplsty 7 days ago and got my cast removed yesterday.  From a profile view, my nose looks pretty nice, but from the front it just looks like a flat blob with no definition at all along the bridge!  My dodctor broke my nasal bones, because he claimed that my nose was a bit wide.  But now it just looks fleshy and nothing like the pictures he made. I am so depresed and would never have gotten this done if this is how it will look forever.  I'll keep posting if things start to improve.

I just had an open revision rhinoplasty on June 29th and it's now July 18th. I had never had an open rhinoplasty and found it to be a little more uncomfortable than I remember my original to be, but then that was in my early 20's. Over 20 years ago. I went back a week later to remove the splint and stitches and was horrified at what I saw. The nurse looked at me and said "That is going to be a cute nose!" I assumed they are all paid to say that. I didn't panic, as I remembered how swollen I'd be that entire day I couldn't stop staring at myself in the mirror and wondering what I had done.
Were the crooked bone, pinched tip and wide nostrils better than this? My answer was yes! I thought for sure my husband and daughters were going to say "what the heck did you do mom!" It has been almost 3 weeks and I have emailed and called the doctor several times to ease my panic and reassure me that my wide tip and wide nose all the way up were going to get better. I too, feel like I am wearing a prosthetic nose! I certainly doesn't make me look better as was supposed to do. I have been out with friends and oddly, no one has noticed. Even some of my closest friends said they couldn't tell. I was shocked! When I pointed out surgery to them, then they said, " I guess, I can see some swelling a little bit." However, I can tell the difference and still hate looking in the mirror. I have yet to touch base with the surgeon as we have been playing phone tag. I have found these posts to be very helpful and I realize that this is normal I guess. I'm still worried as I will cry if I have to do this again, but want to be happy with the outcome. He has done many noses and his before and afters are wonderful so I'm holding out on hope and that he knows what he's talking about. My next appointment is on the 28th and look forward to what he has to say. It has gotten a little better as the days pass, but still cringe at any picture of myself. I'll keep you posted on the next appointment.

i had open rhinoplasty tuesday the 26th. my nose was quite large from a side angle. the tip was long and the bone was bridged. it looked awful. i was exited because this morning, august the 1st, i was suppose to get the splint off and see what my new nose looked like. b4 the PS handed me the mirror she said it is gonna look awful and swollen and i promise it will get better. when i saw it i was so dissapointed, it looked worse than before. now i am just trying to understand that it will look better in a month. Most rhinoplasty patients are dissapointed at first and in about a month they already begin to love their new nose!

I had my surgery on 4/15 and have posted a couple updates since then.  I'm now a week shy of 4months and I love my nose.  I too, was freaking out after the cast was removed and for about a week afterwards.  Everyone really needs to be patient.  My only concern is that the surgical scar underneath is still there despite applying scar removal cream regularly and I fear that it will be there forever despite what my doctor says.  I will be asking him about it next week in a follow up appt.

Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences. I don't feel as bad/as alone.

I had an open rhinoplasty (with standard septoplasty and standard turbinectomy) on July 29, 2011. Today marks 1 week post op. I had the stitches, splint and packing removed yesterday. I was pretty horrified when I looked in the mirrior afterward :(. I had the rhinoplasty to decrease the width of my bridge and nostril flare. The Doctor said that everything went great and that he is extremely pleased with my nose. He also said that I will be very happy with the final result. At this point it is very hard to see what he is talking about :(. My nose is definitely smaller and I like my profile but my nostrils are uneven and my tip looks a bit lop-sided. I feel very deformed right now.

I've actually had a great experience post op because I haven't felt any pain, my bruising started to disappear the second day after surgery and I haven't been extremely swollen.  I know that today marks only one week since the surgery so I need to be more patient. I just can't help but think of these lop-sided nostrils of mine :(. They look absolutely horrendous to me. I'm praying that my nose begins to take a better shape within the next week or so. Otherwise it is going to become more and more difficult to accept the fact that I paid $10,000 for a nose that looks worse now than what it did beforehand. :(

I had my splint removed today, and was too somewhat horrified when he held up that little hand mirror.. I know that a week of anticipation after a life time of waiting to have this procedure done, I did build up high expectations. It had appeared that alot of the swelling and bruising had gone down, and I was spending umm maybe hours looking into the mirror over these past few days imagining the beauty that would be revealed today, with no such luck. It is very lion-looking, just as the original poster had commented on hers. Its even bruised along the bridge of my nose, and by the reaction of the girl behind the desk, I'm not so sure that's normal.. BUT thankfully I found this forum, with so many other unhappy fresh rhino patients and so many happy not-so-fresh rhino patients. This gives me hope :O)

I am also Asian lookin for support.  My doctor is Dr. Edward Kwak in nyc.  He is not well known yet but he was young and I thought by having a young surgeon he would know better on the latest trend and look.  I had rhinoplasty, septoplasty,  and inferior turbinate reduction.  I paid close to $10K for the procedure.  Its been day 8 since my surgery and I had my cast off yesterday and just like most of you, I was so horrify that I almost fainted.  I did not want to accept this girl looking back at me was me... I mean, I had a flat nose before but overall, I looked cute and pretty to me and majority of others.  I just always wanted an enhancement .. even prettier than before.  So I don;t have to feel embarrass in some of the picture that looked like I have bridge at all and just a round nose!

I been freaking out since yesterday but thank God, he had to put tape on because man, it looked so much better with the tape ( and with tape, it looks like I am wearing a big plastic nose).  I never imagine I would be coming on to a support site to get support for something I elected to do!  What an irony!  I wanted 20 years to do this and I am so scared that I made a mistake.  I keep thinking and blame myself...

I praise God that I found this site, because reading this make me feel so much better that I am not going thru this alone and that it will get better!  Beauty do come with a price .... and we need to have faith!  I pray that in another week, my nose will be much smaller and swollen will disapear too.  I will be able to see my friends again!  Inaddition, my vacation from work is coming to an end...

I will be back to post my result because I think its so important for others to know they are not alone!!

I love your post!Although I'm really upset about my revision rhino (just had splint taken off today) and have a snout nose. Really depressed so started to research this on internet and came across this board and your post made me laugh so hard! I'm sure it wasn't funny to you, but you have such an amazing way of expressing yourself! Well, I hope you saw some improvement since you posted this. I'm going to be patient and see if the snout turns to a normal nose in few days. Good luck to you and thanks for making me laugh when my day was really gloomy. BB
